Watch: Jelly Roll hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live, chokeslams his WWE opponent Logan Paul

Yahoo2 days ago
Jelly Roll's first of two nights on the job as a guest host of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, was treated to an unexpected interruption. When his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) SummerSlam match tag team partner, Randy Orton, and their opponents, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, appeared, a newsworthy moment occurred.
The brief fracas on Wednesday evening's late-night program ended with the Grammy-winning "Save Me" performer chokeslamming Paul through his TV hosting desk.
The incident also served to hype WWE's SummerSlam event, which will take place on Aug. 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
What has transpired in Jelly Roll's recent WWE interactions
McIntyre initially made an impromptu appearance from a side stage door. He celebrated Jelly Roll's over 200-pound weight loss in the past year. Then, after referring to him as "trailer trash," among many lowbrow insults, Orton and McIntyre engaged in a scuffle involving stiff forearm shivers. Orton was then tackled by Scotsman McIntyre back through the same door through which he had entered.
Jelly Roll, stunned, said that the show was going to take a commercial break. He was interrupted by social media influencer-turned-grappler Paul. Before slapping him across his face, among many insults he lobbed at the country chart-topping performer included calling him a "greasy, redneck, prison rat."
Stunned by the assault, Jelly Roll then recomposed himself and retaliated with a chokeslam before hyping his appearance at SummerSlam.
This follows a weekend of appearances by Jelly Roll that resulted in a series of tussles between Jelly Roll, Orton, Paul, and McIntryre during the July 11 USA Network-aired SmackDown episode, recorded at downtown Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, and NBC's July 12 Main Event program, recorded at Atlanta's State Farm Arena.
On Friday evening, Jelly Roll appeared during a segment of SmackDown, where his performance of "Liar" was interrupted by Paul. Orton appeared to back up Jelly Roll, which then prompted an appearance by McIntyre.
One day later, McIntyre (seconded by Paul) and Orton (seconded by Jelly Roll) wrestled during the Main Event show. As expected, things got heated again. Jelly Roll punched Paul in the melee. Then, McIntyre delivered his jumping front kick "Claymore" maneuver to Jelly Roll.
How has Jelly Roll's schedule grown between pro wrestling, television, on-stage performances
"Truthfully, there are three things I'm always mistaken for — a wrestler, a tattoo artist, or a member of the Insane Clown Posse who just got sober," joked the performer during his first-ever hosting monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday evening.
Jelly Roll said that his return to the late-night program followed comedian Kimmel being the first late-night TV show to offer him a skit and a couch appearance on late-night TV.
He's not long for the host's chair, though.
The coming weekend finds him making a Sunday evening appearance at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, North Dakota.
The "Son of a Sinner" vocalist returns to that stage after his first appearance in 2023. Luke Bryan, Limp Bizkit, Bailey Zimmerman, and more are scheduled to join him.
How much is Jelly Roll training for his SummerSlam appearance?
Being confused for a professional wrestler is also something that's drastically changed about Jelly Roll.
During a Wednesday morning appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Jelly Roll said that over the past year, he'd joked with the former WWE champion and current WWE chief content officer, Paul "Triple H " Levesque, about his weight loss and if it qualified him to be in-ring ready.
He's finally ready.
"I have been training. I have quietly been living in Orlando for three or four weeks at the PC [WWE Performance Center], showing up every day like a piece of furniture. They can't keep me out of there. I'm there from the moment I wake up until it closes. I'm obsessed," Jelly Roll said to McAfee, who himself is an on-again, off-again WWE in-ring performer and television color commentator.
The Nashville-born performer explained that he has been working in three- to four-hour training sessions with retired WWE wrestler-turned-coach Matt Bloom, as well as former WWE champions like The Undertaker and Kevin Owens, and recent former WWE United States Champion Jacob Fatu.
"These dudes are like pouring into me because they see that I'm trying to take it as serious as I can," Jelly Roll added.

Astronomer CEO Andy Byron Resigns Following Viral Coldplay Kiss Cam Drama: 'Our Leaders are Expected to Set the Standard'

The company's board of directors accepted Andy Byron's resignation, according to a statementNEED TO KNOW Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has resigned from his position with the tech company following the drama surrounding the viral Coldplay concert kiss cam The company's board of directors accepted the resignation, according to a statement shared on July 19 Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEOAndy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, has resigned from his position with the tech company following the drama surrounding the viral Coldplay concert kiss cam. After a couple went viral for their reaction to being spotted at the Gillette Stadium show in Foxboro, Mass., on Wednesday, July 16, a company spokesperson told PEOPLE on Friday, July 18, that Byron was "placed on leave" and cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy was serving as interim CEO. The tech company announced in an update on X on Saturday, July 19, that Byron "has tendered his resignation," and the board of directors has "accepted" it. "As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding," Astronomer's latest statement read. "Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met." "The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO," the statement continued. "Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI. While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not," added the statement. "We're continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems." Byron's resignation comes just days after the concert moment went viral on social media. In the footage, a couple — who were not identified — could be seen, with a man wrapping his arms around a woman. After apparently realizing that they were on camera, the woman covered her face, while the man ducked down out of sight. The reactions prompted Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin to joke that they might be having an 'affair." "Oh, look at these two,' Martin, 48, said to the crowd as the couple hid. "All right, c'mon. You're okay.' The musician then added: "Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' Per The Guardian, Martin attempted to address what went down later in the show as well. 'Holy s---,' he reportedly told the stadium crowd. 'I hope we didn't do something bad.' Astronomer previously wrote on LinkedIn that its board "initiated a formal investigation into this matter" and would "have additional details to share very shortly," reiterating that its "leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability." The company did not explicitly confirm the identities of anybody in the video at the time, and reported that statements made about "other employees" being present at the concert and featured in the video were incorrect. Citing a source, Axios reported this week that the company's public response was delayed "due in part to Byron's slow resignation and exit package negotiations." The company's spokesperson had no comment on the Axios story when reached by PEOPLE, and Byron has not responded to separate messages seeking comment. Efforts to reach the woman in the footage were previously unsuccessful. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Ex-pro wrestling star Buff Bagwell gets right leg amputated: 'This is hard'

Pro wrestling great Buff Bagwell underwent surgery to have his right leg amputated above his right knee, his friend Steve Stasiak wrote on social media on Friday. Bagwell, whose real name is Marcus Bagwell, due to complications from injuries he suffered in a car crash in 2020, Stasiak wrote on Facebook. Stasiak said the injuries never fully healed. "I've known Buff a long time. I've seen him in the spotlight, I've seen him behind the scenes, and I've seen him fight through things most people never even hear about. This one… this is hard," Stasiak's post read. "For him. For everyone who knows and loves him. "The injuries from his 2020 accident never fully healed. He gave it everything he had to avoid this outcome—but that fight led him here. And now begins a whole new kind of battle. "Buff was one of the brightest stars of a wild era in wrestling. He made you look. He made you care. But it's who he is as a person—past the lights, past the persona—that I hope people think about today." The pro wrestling world offered their thoughts and prayers for Bagwell on social media as word reached X that he had had the surgery. Bagwell, 55, competed in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1991 to 2001 and then briefly in WWE after WWE bought its rival North American promotion. He also competed for Total Nonstop Action wrestling and others. He was a five-time WCW tag-team champion and was ranked No. 66 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Top 500 wrestlers of 1999. Jackpot won on music knowledge game show The Hit List for first time

A father and son team have become the first contestants to win the full £10,000 jackpot on game show The Hit List. More than 250 pairs of contestants have attempted to win the top prize on the BBC One show, but it is now only in series eight, which launches on Saturday, that this has been done. The Hit List sees contestants hear excerpts of music and they have to name the song and the artist who sang it. In the show's endgame, the prize money starts to drop after five seconds of music so the longer contestants take to answer, the less money they make. Contestants are also allowed to skip to a new song. Contestants Paul, 61, and Tom, 26, from Liverpool, managed to get every one of the endgame's 10 songs right within five seconds and so scooped the full prize on offer. Tom, an events and marketing coordinator, said: 'We've been watching The Hit List for years, this was our third time applying to be on the show, and it was third time lucky. 'We always knew that we'd go on together, as you need knowledge of music spanning all decades. 'The two teams we were competing with were incredible, I couldn't believe when we go through to the final round, the adrenaline was immense and obviously over the moon with the result.' The show, which began in 2019, is hosted by husband and wife presenting duo, Rochelle Humes and Marvin Humes. Marvin said: 'I was starting to believe that it couldn't be done, but they came and proved us wrong, after seven years I've seen so many attempts. 'Tom and Paul were so in sync from the start I knew we were on to something special.' Viewers can watch all available episodes of The Hit List on BBC iPlayer.
