Brits warned of 'bogus' Ibiza parties as tourists turn up to empty venues
Brits heading on Ibiza holidays to enjoy the island's world-famous clubs, bars and boat parties are being warned of a simple scam that's leaving them out of pocket Brits heading to Ibiza this summer to make the most of its epic boat parties are being warned of a common scam that could leave them out of pocket, staring at an empty dock. Ibiza Town is famous for its epic nightlife from the packed clubs and bars to boat parties where revellers can soak up the views and sunshine while listening to live music and DJ sets. However, one insider has warned that Brits planning Spain holidays should stay vigilant when trying to make the most of the atmosphere. James Smith, founder of Learn Spanish with James, has spent years living on the White Isle and witnessed countless tourists fall victim to elaborate cons. His warnings come after Spanish islands fear Brits won't return as tourists are dealt another blow. Have you been caught out by one of these Ibiza scams? Email us at webtravel@ "Living in Ibiza opened my eyes to how sophisticated these scams have become." He said. "The operators know exactly what buttons to push with British tourists, so they'll promise VIP treatment, exclusive access, or once-in-a-lifetime experiences. But there are always telltale signs if you know what to look for." He adds that boat party scams "have exploded in recent years". Fraudsters set up websites and social media pages to promote incredible events complete with celebrity DJs, unlimited drinks and VIP packages. Only, these events are completely made up; when people turn up to the docks or venues, there's nothing there. James warned: "These scammers are getting smarter with their online presence. They'll steal photos from legitimate boat parties and create convincing websites. But when you turn up at the supposed departure point, there's no boat – and no refund." He urged Brits to keep an eye out for red flags such as vague meeting locations, requests for full payment upfront via bank transfer, and reluctance to provide official booking confirmations or company registration details. It's also worth noting that in recent years, Ibiza officials have introduced strict rules around boat parties in a bid to crackdown on unruly tourists. This includes a ban on party boats sailing within one nautical mile of a number of towns on the island, with captains also prevented from picking up and disembarking passengers in the regions. Other common scams according to James include approaching tourists with 'discounted' tickets to clubs such as Pacha or Amnesia. "They'll show you what looks like a genuine ticket and claim they can't use it," he explained. "The story is always the same: they're leaving the island early, their friend cancelled, or they double-booked. But these tickets are either completely fake or already used." If they won't let you check the ticket or refuse to provide contact details, be wary. They may also use high pressure tactics such as telling you someone else is interested. Meanwhile if you're promised unlimited drinks and queue skips, proceed with caution, especially if you're being approached in the street. "The legitimate venues don't work this way," James pointed out. "Real clubs sell their own packages through official channels. These street sellers are either selling fake vouchers or massively overcharging for basic entry."

Westminster Bridge shut down during rush hour due to police incident
The major bridge has been reportedly shut for the last three hours with traffic diverted away from the area. Westminster Bridge has been closed this morning following a police incident, leaving the normally busy Thames crossing deserted at rush hour. Pictures from the scene show a cordon in place with ambulances stationed in the middle of the road. The closure, which has been in effect for at least three hours, is disrupting travel across central London, with bus routes diverted away from the bridge, the Mirror reports. Traffic has been stopped in both directions between the A3211 Victoria Embankment and Lambeth Palace Road. The nature of the incident is not currently known. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Strictly star Chris Robshaw's 'horror stalker threats nearly led him to reject BBC show'
Strictly Come Dancing's latest contestant Chris Robshaw has reportedly become the victim of a stalker as he has allegedly been threatened with violence and false allegations Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw is said to have almost pulled the plug on his time on the BBC show before it has even begun. The England rugby star's friends have claimed he has been targeted by a female stalker. He reportedly met the woman twice during work events last year, with initial abuse starting six months after their first encounter. Chris is said to have called in the police after the woman reportedly threatened him with violence and spread false allegations. According to reports, the woman appears on the National Police Wanted List. She has reportedly left the country and is being sought by police. A spokesperson for Chris told the Mirror: 'This is an ongoing police investigation, and therefore we are unable to comment at this time. Chris will not be commenting further.' Chris's pals have allegedly said the BBC is aware and is supporting him. "Chris almost turned down Strictly because of what this woman has been putting him and his family through," a friend told the Sun. 'She's made some disgusting threats. It has been awful for them. Chris and Camilla have been told by the police they're not alone. This woman has form for what she's been doing to them and has done it to other people too. 'Chris and Camilla are just the latest victims in a string of lives she's tried to destroy." They added that Chris has only gone ahead with Strictly because of his son Wilding. Chris retired from professional rugby in 2022 and was announced that he was joining the Strictly cast on Wednesday. The publication reports that the BBC has worked with Chris to ensure his safety at all times while on the competition. 'Chris hates a fuss and never wants to put anyone out, but he's grateful to how amazing the BBC have been with all of this," a source said. 'He wants to crack on with the competition and give it his best shot." A spokesperson also told the publication: 'This is an ongoing police investigation, and therefore we are unable to comment at this time. Chris will not be commenting further.' Chris is best known as a former England rugby union player and captain, having earned 66 caps for England. The 39-year-old has captained the national team 43 times and led the team to a Six Nations Grand Slam victory in 2016. Speaking about joining Strictly, Rob said: "This is about as far out of my comfort zone as it gets! I'm hoping to take my dad dancing to a whole new level, and my mum can't wait to drag me along to her Zumba class. Let's see if a rugby sidestep works in the Cha Cha Cha." Chris was joined on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show by RuPaul's Drag Race UK star La Voix - who is the first drag queen to compete on the main Strictly series.
