Veteran Jess Fishlock in no rush to make decision on Wales future
Fishlock has come full circle, having made her senior debut for Wales in host country Switzerland as a teenager in 2006 and arriving back here as her side's all-time top goalscorer.
'I don't know right now,' said Fishlock, asked about her future with Wales. 'I think that's a tough one. I need to take a little seat and have a little think, but no decisions are to be made.
'As of right now, I'm still a Welsh player.'
Head coach Rhian Wilkinson largely shouldered the blame for the defeat, also pointing to fitness gaps and lack of regular club minutes for many in her squad, and said it was too soon to be thinking about anyone's longer-term tenure.
'What I've said to all my players is just to take a breath,' said Wilkinson. 'I think we're right in the thick of something, there's so much emotion.
'There were great moments, and there were really hard moments and painful moments and big lessons and things we are excited about, and it's not the time to look at future plans for Jess, for Kayleigh (Barton), for some of our more experienced players.
'I hope that they stick together tonight and that they enjoy one another's company, that they celebrate the moments that they can celebrate.
'Jess has a goal and an assist, Hannah Cain has a goal, and that's what I ask of this team, is that they stick together as a team and are around each other for a while, then bigger life decisions can be made in the future.'

Alun Wyn Jones appointed to military role by King Charles III
Alun Wyn Jones OBE has been appointed as Honorary Colonel of 3rd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, by King Charles III. The former Wales and British and Irish Lions captain is the most capped rugby player in history, with 170 caps for appearances between 2006 and 2023. He became Wales' 129th captain when he led the side against Italy in the Six Nations tournament in 2009 and is one of only four players to have been selected on four British and Irish Lions tours, achieving 12 caps between 2009 and 2021. In his new role, the Welsh rugby legend will serve as an ambassador for Wales, taking over the position from Brigadier Russ Wardle OBE DL, the former head of the Army in Wales. Alun Wyn Jones, who will wear military uniform in this role, said he was "hugely flattered and humbled", but also "a little apprehensive." 'Having played in our great stadium and seeing the men and women in uniform holding our national flag, it was always a significant and poignant symbol of the history and connection to the military in Wales,' he said. 'There was also the iconic Royal Welsh Band serving to provide acoustics in the stadium, which is something that I enjoyed as much as a player as I continue to do now as a fan. 'My apprehension was borne out of the responsibility felt while wearing the red jersey and all that comes with representing our nation. 'Learning more about the history of The Royal Welsh, particularly Sir Tasker Watkins who served in the Welch Regiment and his heroism and commitment to Wales and Welsh rugby, made it something I couldn't turn down.' He added that he is looking forward to learning more about 3 Royal Welsh and to share his experience of leadership in sport and of leaving one career and moving into another. 'The fact that personnel serving with 3rd Battalion also have day jobs also sparked an awareness that Reservists are all around us in civilian life,' he said. 'Yes, the uniform I'll wear in this role will be very different to what I'm used to, but one I will be equally proud to wear as any jersey in my playing career and represent 3 Royal Welsh and Wales.' Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Chris Barry CBE, added: 'I am proud to welcome Alun Wyn Jones to the Regimental family as the Honorary Colonel of 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh – a position that has been personally approved by our Colonel in Chief, King Charles III. Italy overcome Wales in thrilling Summer Series contest
Cheli's third score proved to be the difference during an absorbing encounter in which Italy took the lead four times in Caerphilly. It was a game that neither team deserved to lose, but ultimately Wales came up just short despite bagging four tries of their own. The two sides were quick out of the blocks as they both looked to assert themselves over the other during the opening exchanges. But it was Italy who broke the deadlock after 18 minutes through talismanic captain Elena Errichiello. The No. 8 has been a constant spark for her side during this Women's Summer Series, and she was able to cross over following a strong showing from her forwards near Wales' tryline. Lavinia Pratichetti ensured the extra two points, but the competition hosts rallied after falling behind. Molly Wakely breached the Italian backline on 25 minutes, capping off a period of Welsh pressure to get them on the scoreboard, and the side led by Branwen Metcalfe took the lead 10 minutes later when the dangerous Savannah Picton-Powell skilfully scored. Italy hit back after the break and took advantage of a Welsh lineout error five metres from their line. The throw went long from the touchline and Cheli capitalised to drive over. Pratichetti was clinical from the tee once again as Italy found themselves leading 14-12. But the game continued to unfold in a pendulum-like fashion as four minutes later, Wales retook the lead. A blistering move got the home side within touching distance of the Italian tryline down the right, but when it became obvious the left side would prove fruitful, the ball was worked brilliantly out wide, and Seren Singleton was on hand to finish the move off. Italy's physical prowess has been a strength of theirs through this Women's Summer Series and Cheli was able to score a virtually identical second try to her first – burrowing over off the back of a ruck – to hand back the initiative to the team in blue. Much like a heavyweight slugfest, both teams continued to trade blows, and Chiara Pearce landed the next telling shot, dotting down to edge Wales back in front for a third time. However, Cheli's third close-range try with six minutes to go, and Pratichetti 100% conversion record, proved decisive in one of the games of the competition. Wrexham star forced to undergo surgery and banned from flying home from tour
Wrexham are currently touring Australia and New Zealand as they prepare for life in the Championship but they're set to be without striker Jack Marriott, who can't even fly home after having surgery Wrexham striker Jack Marriott could miss the start of the Championship season after an operation to remove his appendix left him stranded Down Under. The Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac -owned side are currently on tour in Australia and New Zealand, having faced Melbourne Victory and Sydney in friendlies before Saturday's clash with Wellingham Phoenix. Marriott, 30, featured in both matches in Australia but missed the game against Wellingham. That's because the ex- Derby and Peterborough star has been forced to go undergo surgery after suffering from appendicitis. The NHS recommends a rest period of at least two weeks following surgery and even longer for athletes. Marriott will therefore be unable to fly home until he's made a recovery. Wrexham begin life as a Championship club in less a month, making the daunting trip to Southampton on Saturday, August 9. Marriott's involvement is in serious doubt, as is that of midfielder Ollie Rathbone, who picked up an ankle injury during their 2-1 loss to Sydney. Phil Parkinson said ahead of the Wellingham match: "Jack is in hospital, he has had his appendix out this morning so we are a bit short in terms of our strikers department since we have been over here. Hopefully, the operation has gone well but it looks like he is going to have to stay over here longer because he won't be able to fly back. "Over the course of a trip like this, you expect a couple of injuries but I'm obviously disappointed with those two. Particularly Ollie because we know once Jack has got the operation done, it won't be long before he's back." Wrexham could dip into the transfer market for a new striker, having loaned out club legend Paul Mullin to Wigan. Mullin, whose 110 goals in 170 appearances helped Wrexham achieve three successive promotions, fell out of favour under Parkinson in the second half of last season, not featuring in a matchday squad beyond February.
