Time of India26-06-2025
Pune: Deputy chief minister
Ajit Pawar
has criticised his party MLA Sangram Jagtap for his controversial statements against the Muslim community and said these are against NCP's ideology.
"NCP follows a secular ideology, and we will never compromise on it. I will personally speak to Jagtap on this matter," the NCP chief said after chairing a meeting of the party MLAs in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Jagtap represents Ahmednagar City constituency and is considered close to Pawar. Recently, videos of his incendiary remarks surfaced on social media.

Taking objection, NCP state vice president Saleem Sarang wrote a letter to Pawar.
"NCP has been following the secular ideology of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Jyotiba Phule, and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The party has always taken people from all communities and religions along in its progress. However, Sangram Jagtap is constantly making anti-Muslim statements, which is unnecessarily creating a rift between two communities," the letter said.
Sarang told reporters on Wednesday that he had requested Pawar and state party president Sunil Tatkare to reprimand Jagtap and ensure that he does not continue his communal agenda for personal gain.

"Otherwise, the Muslim community will go away from the party," he said.
Responding to the complaint letter, Jagtap on Thursday said this is the party's internal matter. "I will soon meet our party chief to explain my position."
About whey he missed the Mumbai meeting, Jagtap said, "Since the warkaris were in Ahilyanagar, I stayed back to welcome them, as per tradition."
Even after joining the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, NCP always maintained that they did not compromise on secular ideology.

This Muslim country decides to send people to jail for missing Friday prayers, not Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, UAE, Bangladesh, name is.... Malaysia new rule: In a shocking development in Malaysia, the state of Terengganu has warned that it is going to fully implement Sharia law. And taking this forward, it has been warned that people who do not offer Friday Namaz will soon be sent to jail. In addition, it was also announced that Muslim men can be imprisoned for up to two years for not offering Friday Namaz without any solid reason. This move is being seen as a symbol of inclination towards religious conservatism in multi-cultural Malaysia. Religious fanaticism has increased a lot in Malaysia during the tenure of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Just a few months ago, a centuries-old temple was demolished in Malaysia and a mosque was built there, which was inaugurated by Anwar Ibrahim. What is the punishment? The state of Terengganu, ruled by the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party announced that first-time offenders will now face not only jail time but also a fine of up to 3,000 ringgit (Rs 61,780) or both for skipping Friday prayers without a valid reason, reports South China Morning Post. State Information, Preaching and Sharia Empowerment Minister Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said the law aims to remind people that Friday prayers are not just a religious symbol but also an expression of obedience among Muslims. Earlier in Terengganu state, only those who did not offer namaz for three consecutive Fridays had to face punishment. The strictness regarding namaz in this state is also being linked to politics. It is being said that Terengganu state is the political stronghold of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party. This party supports strict punishment for religious crimes. In such a situation, it wants to get maximum votes in the Muslim state by calling itself closer to Islam. Terengganu ruled by a hardline Islamic party Terengganu has a population of around 1.2 million. More than 99 percent of its population is Malay Muslim. This is the only state in Malaysia which has no opposition in its assembly. In the 2022 elections, the ruling Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party won all 32 seats in the state. Assembly elections are going to be held in this state in the next two years. In such a situation, there is a lot of pressure on the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party to repeat the previous performance.

Karnataka Assembly passes Bill to rename Bengaluru City University after Manmohan Singh

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly Tuesday passed a Bill to rename Bengaluru City University after former prime minister Manmohan Singh. The Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, substitutes the name of the university in the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000, with 'Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University.' The statement of objects and reasons attached to the Bill notes that the renaming seeks to 'esteem the reputation of Dr. Manmohan Singh, distinguished economist, academician, bureaucrat and statesman who spearheaded economic reforms in the nation and served as Prime Minister of India for two successive terms.' Despite Opposition protests, the Congress Government pushed the Bill through, with Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar maintaining that renaming Bengaluru City University after Singh was an honour that reflected his immense contribution to the country's economic and political life. While the ruling Congress hailed the move as a fitting tribute to Singh's contributions to the nation, the Opposition BJP questioned the government's approach. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka argued that instead of renaming an existing institution, the government should establish a new university in Singh's name. 'Naming an existing university after Dr Manmohan Singh does not do justice to his stature. A new university would have been a more meaningful tribute,' Ashoka said. BJP MLA Suresh Gowda also criticised the decision, saying the government had overlooked other leaders who deserved recognition. He suggested that Tumkur University could have been named after Shivakumar Swamiji, revered as 'Nadedaduva Devaru' (walking God) by his followers.
