Travel loans overtake house renovation, medical: Study
A Paisabazaar report, based on a survey of over 5,700 respondents in 97 cities, finds that in the first half of 2025, 27% borrowers took a loan to fund a vacation, up from 21% two years earlier. That puts travel ahead of home improvements (24%), credit card repayments (11%), medical expenses (9.6%), education (6.1%) and weddings (5.4%). According to Santosh Agarwal, the firm's chief executive, the figures reflect a growing willingness to use credit for lifestyle goals.
The shift is part of a broader surge in travel. Govt data show that more than 3 crore Indians travelled abroad in FY24, with numbers climbing further in FY25. On spending, RBI's data indicate that Indians spent about $17 billion on foreign travel in FY25 - accounting for 57-60% of all outward remittances during the year. Millennials remain the largest cohort of holiday-loan borrowers, making up nearly half the total.

RBI finalises co-lending framework starting Jan 2026
Mumbai: RBI has come out with final co-lending rules for banks and non-banks which allow dual lending with a single KYC. The final norms mandate blended lending rates, irrevocable funding commitments, and escrow-based cashflow distribution, while keeping first loss default guarantee. These, along with capital impacts and lower returns, could make co-lending less attractive for originators. A 15-day loan transfer deadline may also drive lenders toward simpler direct assignment deals, ICRA said. The framework will become effective Jan 1, 2026. Credit enhancement for bonds RBI's norms on non-fund credit have allowed banks, financial institutions and NBFCs to offer partial credit enhancement to make certain types of bonds safer for investors. Pune: Clogged toilets delayed Air India's Delhi-Pune flight by almost five hours on Tuesday afternoon, compelling over 150 passengers to spend almost two hours sitting in the aircraft before deboarding and getting into another plane after going through the formalities, including security check, all over again. The flight (AI-2982) was scheduled to take off from Delhi at 1.05pm and land in Pune at 3.20pm. The substitute plane finally flew at 5.40pm and landed in Pune around 8pm. An Air India spokesperson told TOI, "Flight AI2982, operating from Delhi to Pune, was delayed because of a maintenance task identified prior to departure. It required additional time for rectification. Our ground colleagues in Delhi airport extended support to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused because of this unforeseen delay. Arrangements were made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest. When all passengers came near the boarding gate, the airline's ground staffers announced the start of boarding. After we queued up, we were told that there would be some delay again," Gupta said. The airline's employees told passengers that since the flight had come from Doha, the catering items had to be brought out of the aircraft and fresh items had to be loaded. "We requested the cabin crew that since refreshments had been served because of the delay, they should skip the catering. But the request was turned down," Gupta said.
