This Mumbai Auto Driver Received Extra Rs 500 From A Customer. Here's What He Did Next
A Reddit user shared how a Mumbai auto driver returned Rs 500 he mistakenly paid during a short ride.
An auto rickshaw driver, who received extra Rs 500 from a customer, is receiving praises online for returning the money. A Reddit user shared how he accidentally paid Rs 553 instead of Rs 55 for a short ride from Juhu Beach to Vile Parle station.
The user, who had just moved to Mumbai, was already feeling low on their first day in the city.
'I was lost in thought and didn't realise I had paid Rs 500 extra until I reached the station and opened my phone to buy a train ticket," he wrote on Reddit. 'The auto had already left. I was devastated," the post added.
The Redditor said he tried asking around the local auto stand, but no one knew the driver. He then checked his payment history and found a phone number linked to the UPI transaction. In desperation, he called the number, and a woman answered first and disconnected the call. Upon calling again, the auto driver, Anil ji, picked up.
'Bhaiya, chinta mat kijiye," he assured gently.
To the Redditor's surprise and relief, Anil ji confirmed receiving the extra money and even returned Rs 500, despite it costing him Rs 2 in transfer fees. Touched by the gesture, the Redditor sent Rs 100 as a thank-you gift and also called to express his gratitude. Anil ji humbly replied, 'Koi baat nahi bhaiya."
Internet Applauds the Kindness
The post, shared on August 2, went viral with over 1,700 upvotes and more than 60 comments. Many users praised the driver's honesty, saying it was rare to find such genuine people in big cities.
A user commented, 'It is good that the driver was honest and returned you the money, please be extra cautious next time."
Another wrote, 'I can understand what you went through. New city can be stressful, and I'm glad you had a good experience."
'Believe me, there are many such people in Mumbai. I honestly don't even recollect how many times people have been helpful," an individual said.
The story served as a reminder to many that kindness still exists in everyday life, even in the busiest of cities.

Alpine's Franco Colapinto Arises Unscathed From Terrifying High-Speed Crash During Testing: WATCH
Last Updated: Franco Colapinto crashed during Pirelli tyre testing at Hungaroring but was uninjured. The Alpine driver, struggling this season, replaced Paul Aron for the test. Argentine Formula One driver Franco Colapinto was involved in a high-speed crash during a Pirelli tyre test at the Hungaroring on Wednesday, but was reported uninjured after undergoing medical evaluation. The 22-year-old, currently driving for Alpine, crashed at Turn 11, a fast right-hand corner typically taken at 220 km/h, during the second and final day of post-race testing at the venue that hosted last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. 🚨 Franco #Colapinto sufrió un accidente en HungríaDurante las pruebas de Pirelli en el Hungaroring, se despistó en la curva 11. The incident occurred during a two-day test organized by Pirelli, with Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren, and Racing Bulls all participating as part of preparations for future tyre developments. Colapinto's Struggles Continue Amid Pressure Colapinto was handed driving duties for the second day of the test, replacing reserve driver Paul Aron. The young Argentine joined Alpine earlier this season, replacing Australian Jack Doohan after the first six races. However, his performances have fallen short of expectations. In his seven race starts for the team, Colapinto has yet to finish higher than 13th and failed to start at Silverstone, following a qualifying crash and subsequent gearbox failure. These results have intensified speculation that his seat may be under threat ahead of the final stretch of the season. In stark contrast, his teammate Pierre Gasly has delivered all of Alpine's 20 championship points, finishing in the points three times in the past six races and keeping the struggling team marginally competitive in the constructors' standings, where they currently sit last.
