Antony is in the building
As James Ducker writes here, the Brazilian has been transformed at Betis and he is one of the players Chelsea will doubtless have identified as a main threat to their hopes of glory.
Those who know Antony well talk primarily about a player and person with a spring back in his step who is no longer riddled with the anxieties, doubts and concerns that ate away at him in Manchester.

Fan trouble
Riot police in Wroclaw deployed a water cannon on Chelsea and Real Betis supporters after fans were left bloodied in violent clashes.
Local police said that 28 people have been arrested following the events in the city centre after 'showing aggression towards fans of the opposing team'.
The force said their investigations are ongoing, warning: 'No one will escape legal responsibility and the police will react decisively and appropriately to the situation'.

Chelsea out to complete the set of European trophies
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the second of three Uefa men's finals as Chelsea face Real Betis in the Conference League.
For what can only be logistical reasons, this game in Europe's tertiary club tournament comes after the Europa League final, with the Champions League final concluding the season on Saturday.
Given what Manchester United and Tottenham served up last week though, tonight's contest in Wroclaw, Poland could provide greater entertainment.
This is Real Betis' first European final, so it is probably a bigger occasion for the Spanish side as suggested by the respective numbers of travelling fans.
Chelsea are already in next season's Champions League, so the only thing at stake is winning a very new, unstoried trophy in a competition in which they financially dwarf the opposition.
Nevertheless, win tonight and Chelsea will be the first team to win the Champions League, Europa League, Cup Winners' Cup and Conference League. The Cup Winners' Cup is defunct and the Conference League the least valuable of the four, but it would still be a distinction worth having and a boast to rival fans domestically.
Enzo Maresca will be up against a mentor and inspiration in Manuel Pellegrini, who first encouraged him to become a coach while playing for Malaga in 2011 and gave him his break among his staff at West Ham seven years later.
Chelsea are boosted by the return of striker Nicolas Jackson, who missed the final league games of the season because of suspension. The club may well look to upgrade on Jackson in this summer's transfer market, but they are a better side with him leading the line.
For English fans, the player to keep an eye on in the Betis team is Manchester United misfit Antony, who has found a new lease of life since moving to La Liga on loan. He will have his work cut out against Marc Curcurella.

Roy Keane launches into ‘garlic bread' rant as Sky Sports capture awkward moment between Marc Guehi and Oliver Glasner

While teammate Jean-Philippe Mateta even seemed to realise something was off between the pair when shaking hands with Glasner moments later. The uncomfortable moment, which could be related to Guehi's seemingly imminent departure, led Manchester United legend Keane to launch into a rant about managers being on the pitch in the first place. Defending Guehi's decision to head straight down the tunnel, Keane said: "Why has this happened over the last year or two? Keane, who spent five years in management as boss of Sunderland and Ipswich Town, doubled down by claiming he would never have entered the pitch to shake hands during his time in charge. Asked if he would, he replied: "No. Why? You're going to see them in the dressing room afterwards. "It's bad enough that your own manager is shaking your hand, why is the other manager shaking your hand? You're the enemy!" The incident has only fuelled the rumours that Guehi could be heading for the exit door at Selhurst Park before the transfer window shuts. Speaking after the game, Palace boss Glasner hinted that Guehi and Eberechi Eze - who is rumoured to be joining Tottenham - could both stay put. He said: "It's good advice to the kids to not always believe what you read, especially on the internet. Who knows if the rumours that are written are the truth? "Everybody tells people things for their own advantage. I watch the players every single day in training, if most of the things that are written about them are true, the team couldn't perform like this, be together and committed to each other like they are – it's just not possible. "The 15, 16 players who had the most minutes last year are still here. "There are a lot of rumours about Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi but they were 100 per cent with this group in Crystal Palace and they have proved that in a big way.'

Micah Richards tells Arsenal to sign £80m star after Manchester United win

Micah Richards has named the signing Arsenal should make to 'solve a lot of problems' after their opening Premier League victory over Manchester United. Mikel Arteta's side, who are expected to challenge for the title yet again after three successive second-place finishes, began the 2025-26 campaign with a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford. The Gunners were far from at their fluent best but were gifted an early goal following a mistake from United back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and then withstood significant pressure from the hosts to return to north London with the three points. Ex-England defender Richards described it as a 'massive win' for Arsenal and said the team's strength in depth was impressive after Arteta used Myles Lewis-Kelly and Jurrien Timber as second-half substitutes. The only real weakness Richards saw in Arsenal was at left-wing, where Gabriel Martinelli started before being replaced by ex-Chelsea star Noni Madueke, who prefers to operate off the right. Richards believes Arsenal would benefit from the addition of another left-winger before the transfer deadline and says signing Real Madrid's Rodrigo would 'solve a lot of problems'. Arteta expressed interest in signing Rodrygo earlier in the summer but the Gunners are not currently pursuing the Brazilian, who is valued at around £80m. Arsenal were interested in Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, who could have played on the left, but it is their north London rivals Tottenham who are closing in on £68m deal. 'I still think Arsenal are a left winger short or a left forward short,' former Manchester City defender Richards said on The Rest is Football podcast. 'But Arsenal's bench today was so strong with Lewis-Skelly and Timber coming on. Mikel Arteta can change the full-backs now and it doesn't affect the team, the quality doesn't go down. 'That will really help them throughout the season. I prefer Noni Madueke on the right so I just look at that position on the left-hand side and if they could sort that. 'They were linked with Rodrygo and that could solve a lot of problems for them. 'But it's a massive win for Arsenal away from home and just gives them that momentum at the start of the season.' While Arsenal were not at their best at Old Trafford, Arteta was full of praise for the 'resilience' his team showed to beat an improved Manchester United. More Trending 'We came here away and won which is a big result. We were clearly not at our best,' the Gunners boss told BBC's Match of the Day. 'We attacked the box and we reacted well to unusual mistakes. The team reacted time after time in an incredible way. Very proud of that because that is why we got the opportunity to win the game. 'We showed a resilience and a will to win. They put you on the ropes here, you will have to have moments when you suffer. To find a way to win at this ground, I'm very happy with the team.' Arsenal will look to make it two wins from two next Saturday when Premier League new-boys Leeds United visit the Emirates Stadium. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Why did VAR disallow Eberechi Eze's free-kick goal for Crystal Palace against Chelsea?

Chelsea were handed an early lifeline in their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace as Eberechi Eze 's thumping free-kick was disallowed following an on-field review, in what proved to be the biggest talking point of the 0-0 stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Eze blasted the free-kick through the wall from the edge of the box in the 15th minute, beating Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez down to the sheer power of the strike. Sanchez left a gap in the wall to ensure he could see Eze make contact with the ball, but his view was obstructed when Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi pushed Moises Caicedo out of position. Referee Darren England was sent to the pitch-side monitor by the VAR official, and subsequently announced to the Stamford Bridge crowd that Guehi had committed an offence by standing within one metre of the Chelsea wall when the free-kick was taken. Ebere Eze, WOW! 🚀 — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) August 17, 2025 There was initially some suggestion that the goal had been disallowed because Guehi had been ruled to have fouled Caicedo by barging him from the side, and therefore illegally creating the gap where Eze would strike towards goal. However, referee England's announcement to the crowd confirmed: 'After review, away number six [Guehi] is less than one metre away from the wall as the shot is taken. Therefore, it's an indirect free kick and a disallowed goal'. Furthermore, Law 13 of the laws of the game state that 'where three or more defending team players form a 'wall', all attacking team players must remain at least 1 m (1 yd) from the 'wall' until the ball is in play. "If, when a free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than 1 m (1 yd) from a 'wall' formed by three or more defending team players, an indirect free kick is awarded." While it followed the letter of the law, the decision to disallow the goal still proved controversial, with former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton calling it 'scandalous' on Sky Sports. Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards said the right decision was technically made but still criticised VAR for being 'anti-goals'. "They've applied the laws so you've got to give them respect for that and for finding these little details,' he said on Sky Sports."It feels like we've seen this so many times with players scuffling in the wall and in the end, Guehi is just stronger. However, with the letter of the law it is the correct decision."
