CNN anchor sparks uproar over shooter description
The backlash erupted after the first photos of Tamura, heavily armed and wearing sunglasses, began circulating online. Despite early police descriptions pointing to a possible Middle Eastern background, Burnett stated on-air that the suspect had sunglasses, a moustache, was male, and 'possibly white.'
Viewers slam CNN's racial assumption
X (formerly Twitter) users wasted no time calling out Burnett and CNN. One user claimed the anchor had completely disregarded clear footage that showed a man with a darker complexion. The criticism was sharp: people accused the network of prioritising assumptions over verified facts.
Another user sarcastically reminded viewers that CNN brands itself as the 'Most Trusted News' and mocked the comment by calling the report 'fake news.' Others voiced frustration that mainstream media continues to 'push narratives' instead of reporting accurately.

Critics demanded more accountability, questioning why media outlets often leap to racial identifiers, even when clear evidence or official reports suggest otherwise.
Who is Erin Burnett?
While the controversy unfolds, many are also asking, who exactly is Erin Burnett? A veteran journalist, Burnett currently hosts Erin Burnett OutFront on CNN. Before her time at CNN, she worked at CNBC as a co-anchor and has also held positions at Bloomberg Television and Goldman Sachs.
Burnett, originally from Maryland, studied political economy at Williams College. She has reported from numerous conflict zones including Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Iraq, and Israel. Her career spans over two decades and includes high-profile interviews and global financial reporting.
Still, this latest backlash might be one of her most contentious on-air moments yet. Whether CNN or Burnett herself will respond remains to be seen, but the online noise is growing louder by the hour.

One of the important discussions was how to deal with public outrage regarding the Epstein Files, most of which remains hidden from public view. According to sources who spoke to CNN and The Daily Beast, the group is considering sending Blanche to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience for a one-on-one interview. This comes as the Department of Justice holds over 10 hours of taped conversations with , Epstein's former partner. Those tapes are not yet public, and pressure is growing. Russian Drones Target Civilians As Putin Tightens Grip On Ukraine's Kherson
Last Updated: Over the past week, Russian forces have damaged a key bridge connecting Kherson's main city with the island district of Korabel, sparking a large-scale evacuation effort Russia has intensified its drone campaign in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, targeting civilian areas with near-daily strikes as it attempts to tighten control over the region. The renewed assault has forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents and drawn sharp criticism from local officials and international observers. Over the past week, Russian forces have damaged a key bridge connecting Kherson's main city with the island district of Korabel, sparking a large-scale evacuation effort. Around 1,800 civilians remain on the island, and Ukrainian rescuers reported removing more than 900 by midweek. Although the evacuation convoys were temporarily spared from drone attacks, the rest of the city continues to endure unrelenting strikes. Ukrainian officials accuse Russia of deliberately targeting civilians using drones. Yaroslav Shanko, head of Kherson's city military administration, speaking to CNN, said, 'They absolutely do not care what the targets are." 'Talking about any humanity from the Russians is absolutely pointless. Strikes on the community and the city are constant," Shanko added. Another resident, Nina, 85, fled Korabel in 35°C heat with the help of volunteers. Separated from her belongings, she stood with a crutch at an aid point. 'There is no plan, I will live where they put me," she said. 'I am on one leg. I am so tired of this shooting that my nerves can't take it anymore." Drone strikes have become a defining feature of Russia's war tactics in Kherson. Local hospitals are overwhelmed, treating dozens of injuries from recent shelling and drone attacks. According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), these attacks are not isolated. A report published in January accused Russia of routinely using commercially available quadcopter drones—many made domestically or in China—to hunt and harm civilians. The NGO stated that dozens have been killed and hundreds injured in clear violations of international law. 'Russian drone operators are able to track their targets, with high-resolution video feeds, leaving little doubt that the intent is to kill, maim, and terrify civilians," Belkis Wille, director on arms and conflict at HRW, had said.
