DaVita Stock Down Despite Q2 Earnings Beat, Gross Margin Expands

DaVita Inc. DVA delivered adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.95 in the second quarter of 2025, up 13.9% year over year. The figure surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 9.3%. GAAP EPS for the quarter was $2.58, reflecting an uptick of 3.2% year over year. DaVita's Revenues in Detail Revenues of $3.38 billion in the second quarter increased 6.1% year over year. The figure topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.3%. Revenue per treatment in the second quarter of 2025 was $404.6 million, up 3.7% year over year and 1.1% sequentially. Per management, this was primarily driven by normal seasonal improvements, including patients meeting their co-insurance and deductibles. This was partially offset by decreased volume of phosphate binders. Shares of this company plunged nearly 10.1% till last trading. DVA's Segment Details DaVita generates revenues via two sources — Dialysis patient service revenues and Other revenues. The dialysis patient service revenues were $3.21 billion, up 4.8% year over year. Other revenues were $172.7 million, up 37.4% from the year-ago quarter's figure. Per management, the total U.S. dialysis treatments for the second quarter were 7,186,217 or 92,131 per day, on average. This represents a per-day increase of 0.4% on a sequential basis. Normalized non-acquired treatment declined 0.8% year over year in the second quarter of 2025. As of June 30, 2025, DaVita provided dialysis services to around 283,100 patients at 3,175 outpatient dialysis centers, of which 2,662 were U.S. centers while 513 were located across 13 other countries. During the second quarter of 2025, the company acquired one, opened three and closed two dialysis centers in the United States. It also opened six and closed five dialysis centers outside the United States in the same period. As of June 30, 2025, DaVita had approximately 64,400 patients in risk-based integrated care arrangements in its Integrated Kidney Care business, representing $5.3 billion in annualized medical spend. The company also had an additional 9,300 patients in other integrated care arrangements. DaVita's Margin Details In the quarter under review, DaVita's gross profit increased 7% year over year to $1.12 billion. The gross margin expanded 31 basis points (bps) to 33.1%. General & administrative expenses climbed 12.2% year over year to $412.8 million. Adjusted operating profit totaled $705.2 million, reflecting a 4.2% increase from the prior-year quarter's level. Adjusted operating margin in the second quarter contracted 36 bps to 20.9%. DVA's Financial Position DaVita exited second-quarter 2025 with cash and cash equivalents and short-term investments of $739.4 million compared with $511.9 million at the first-quarter end. Total debt (including the current portion) at the end of second-quarter 2025 was $10.26 billion compared with $9.74 billion at the first-quarter end. Cumulative net cash provided by operating activities at the end of second-quarter 2025 was $504.2 million compared with $664 million a year ago. During the three months ended June 30, 2025, DVA repurchased 3.1 million shares for $446 million. DaVita's Guidance DaVita has reiterated its adjusted EPS outlook for 2025. Adjusted EPS for the full year is continued to be projected in the range of $10.20-$11.30. The Zacks Consensus Estimate currently stands at $10.76. Our Take on DVA DaVita ended the second quarter of 2025 with better-than-expected results. The uptick in the company's top and bottom lines and revenue per treatment was encouraging. The per-day increase in total U.S. dialysis treatments for the second quarter on a sequential basis and solid revenues from both sources were encouraging. The opening and acquiring of dialysis centers within the United States and acquiring centers overseas were promising. The gross margin expansion bodes well for the stock. However, the year-over-year decline in normalized non-acquired treatment was disappointing. The contraction of the adjusted operating margin does not bode well for the stock. Bybit's Ben Zhou Charts Bold New Course to Rewrite Crypto Success at Mid-Year Keynote

DUBAI, UAE, Aug. 6, 2025 /CNW/ -- Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has unveiled its bold roadmap for the future of crypto, setting the tone for a new era of innovation, security, and trading excellence. In the highly anticipated " Keynote with Ben: Reshaping What's Next, Bit by Bit," CEO and Co-founder Ben Zhou delivered a forward-looking vision grounded in real-world adoption, institutional-grade innovation, and deep ecosystem alignment. Celebrating over six years of service, 74 million users, and a milestone where 1 in 8 crypto enthusiasts globally have chosen Bybit, CEO and Co-founder Ben Zhou reaffirmed the exchange's mission: Rewrite Your Success. Reshape The Standard. "Crypto is no longer just about speculation — it's about real world application. At Bybit, we're not just trading the future; we're rewriting and reshaping what success looks like, bit by bit," said Zhou. Compliance as a Foundation for the Future Bybit opened the keynote with a reaffirmation of its compliance-first approach — a critical pillar as the industry matures. Now fully compliant with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) framework and securing FIU-India registration in the first half of 2025, Bybit emphasized compliance not as a barrier but as an enabler. Zhou emphasized that "sustainability in crypto begins with trust and transparency," and positioned compliance not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for long-term growth. Rewriting the Industry Security Standard Bybit has also successfully rewritten the industry standard for security following a sophisticated multi-stage attack on one of its vendors in February — the largest known hack in crypto history. While Bybit's own infrastructure remained uncompromised, the company acted swiftly in response. Within weeks, it completed nine extensive security audits — conducted by both internal and independent experts — and implemented over 50 enhanced safeguards. The response drew industry-wide praise and global recognition for its transparency, resilience, and user-first approach. Today, Bybit's security overhaul is regarded as a new benchmark in platform integrity. Trading Excellence Backed by Infrastructure Upgrades Bybit continues to lead in performance and reliability. Its upgraded matching engine now handles 3.5 million transactions per second, processing nearly 200 billion daily orders — a 75% year-over-year increase in the first half of 2025. By extending its Rapid Price Improvement (RPI) mechanism to perpetual contracts, Bybit has delivered 150% higher liquidity and up to 5x better execution across retail and VIP accounts, firmly establishing itself as the go-to destination for professional trading. Setting a New Height in Crypto Wealth Management As institutional and high-net-worth adoption increases, Bybit is reshaping what wealth preservation means in the digital age. Its newly launched wealth management platform has already surpassed $150 million in AUM, offering curated portfolios and strategic services tailored to sophisticated investors — all underpinned by Bybit's trading depth and robust security infrastructure. Redefining Real-World Utility: Bybit Card and Payments Another highlight was the new edition of the Bybit Card — now positioned as a crypto-native business card that integrates seamlessly into both corporate and consumer spending. With support for Visa and Mastercard networks, smart security features, and real-time expense tracking, the card bridges the gap between digital assets and daily transactions. Bybit Card is expected to expand into the EU region in August, with Peru and Colombia lined up for Q4. Bybit's payments infrastructure has also made major strides. Native support for nationwide QR payments in Southeast Asia and LATAM has driven a 719% quarter-over-quarter increase in usage. With over two million users and cross-sector partnerships with local services like Rappi and Vivaticket, Bybit is moving closer to making crypto as usable as "cash". Introducing Bybit Lite to Earn, Manage, and Trade Zhou unveiled the upgraded Bybit App — a unified platform that streamlines both active trading and passive income generation. Bybit Lite is a new upgraded version for casual users and a reimagined Earn section, offering personalized strategies and simplified ways to activate idle capital. A Key Partner of Mantle 2.0 A major announcement was Bybit's deepened strategic alignment with Mantle This partnership sets the stage for what Zhou called "a bold new chapter in institutional-grade on-chain finance." The launch of Mantle 2.0 comes with renewed leadership and tighter ecosystem integration — including Helen Liu, Co-CEO and Partner of Bybit and Emily Bao, Head of Spot and Web3 at Bybit stepping in as key advisors. Together, Bybit, as one of Mantle's ecosystem partners, will accelerate the development of decentralized finance by aligning infrastructure, liquidity, and governance. The collaboration aims to set new standards for scalability and compliance, while tapping into the growing demand for trust-driven DeFi solutions. Reshaping the Standard With this keynote, Bybit signaled more than just platform growth — it marked a shift in how the industry defines success. Zhou's message was clear: The next era of crypto will be shaped by platforms that offer trust, usability, and true innovation. "We believe crypto should be usable, secure, and powerful enough to serve everyone — from first-time users to institutional investors," Zhou said. "Together with our community, we are rewriting the rules and reshaping the space for good." Watch the full keynote replay here. #Bybit / #TheCryptoArk About Bybit Bybit is the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, serving a global community of over 70 million users. Will Coca-Cola's Coffee Bet Perk Up Its Global Beverage Sales?

The Coca-Cola Company 's KO long-standing ambition to break into the global coffee segment remains a work in progress. The company's acquisition of Costa aimed to unlock multiple verticals, including store-based retail, ready-to-drink (RTD) formats and at-home coffee experiences. While the Costa brand has shown strength in-store, particularly in the U.K., its broader expansion into RTD and vending solutions has not delivered at the pace the company had hoped. Management acknowledged that the investment hypothesis has not fully materialized, with much of Costa's growth still concentrated in physical locations rather than diversified platforms. That said, Coca-Cola is not backing off on the coffee opportunity. With the category being large, fragmented and still growing globally, the company is reassessing its strategy. Management emphasized the importance of reflecting on past learnings and exploring avenues for expansion. Despite underperformance relative to expectations, Costa remains a profitable and strategically important brand. Coca-Cola has focused on affordability, store refreshment and speed of service to stabilize Costa's performance while it works on longer-term transformation initiatives. Looking ahead, KO is likely to pursue a more measured and insight-driven approach to coffee. With the beverage giant already boasting $30-billion brands and a deep innovation pipeline, Costa's transformation will hinge on its ability to tap into global consumption trends and leverage Coca-Cola's system capabilities. While the coffee bet has not perked up global sales meaningfully, it remains a strategic growth lever with untapped potential if execution aligns with evolving consumer behavior. KO's Peers Deepen Coffee Ambitions: PEP & KDP Step Up Their Game Apart from Coca-Cola, PepsiCo Inc. PEP and Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. KDP have been steadily brewing their presence in the global coffee arena, each leveraging unique brand partnerships and distribution strengths to tap into the high-growth category. PepsiCo's coffee presence remains limited, with no direct updates in its second-quarter 2025 remarks regarding new coffee-specific products or partnerships. While PEP continues to see strong growth across segments like zero-sugar sodas, functional hydration and prebiotic beverages like poppi, coffee is not yet a core focus. However, with an emphasis on expanding in fast-growing beverage categories and improving channel presence, PepsiCo can still explore selective coffee innovations or partnerships in the future. Keurig Dr Pepper's coffee business showed sequential improvement in second-quarter 2025, led by better pod pricing and resilient volume trends. While brewer shipments remained pressured due to tight retailer inventory, point-of-sale consumption was stable. The company is expanding into premium and cold segments, with Lavazza dessert-inspired K-Cups and La Colombe RTD coffee gaining traction. Though near-term performance faces cost and tariff headwinds, KDP remains focused on long-term growth via innovation and next-gen systems. The Zacks Rundown for Coca-Cola KO shares have risen 10.9% year to date compared with the industry 's growth of 3.7%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research From a valuation standpoint, Coca-Cola trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.11X, significantly higher than the industry's 17.39X. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for KO's 2025 and 2026 earnings implies year-over-year growth of 3.1% and 8.3%, respectively. Earnings estimates for 2025 have been unchanged in the past 30 days. Coca-Cola currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
