Loretta Swit Mourns the Death of 'M*A*S*H' Co-Star
Patrick Adiarte, an actor of stage and screen who had a recurring role on M*A*S*H, died of pneumonia at the age of 82 on Tuesday (April 15) in a Los Angeles hospital, his niece Stephanie Hogan told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (April 17).
Adiarte appeared in both the Broadway and film adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I; he played a member of the royal children's chorus on Broadway and then portrayed Prince Chulalongkorn in the 1956 film, performing opposite Yul Brynner in both productions.
Likewise, Adiarte also appeared in both the stage Broadway production and film adaptation of Flower Drum Song.
But TV fans would best know him as Ho-Jon, an orphaned Korean boy from the first season of M*A*S*H. Adiarte's character assisted Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) and Trapper John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers).
After learning of the news, M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit, who played Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan for the entirety of the series, took to Instagram to mourn the loss of her co-star.
"RIP Patrick Adiarrte," wrote Swit on an Instagram story, along with a broken-heart emoji and the hashtags #mashfamily #mashfamforever and #globalmashfamily.
On the post Swit linked to, M*A*S*H fans were quick to post their memories and prayers for his family.
"Wow. He was just a kid in the show. 81. Sometimes I forget how old this show is. May he rest well," wrote one fan.
"Forever young in our mind's eye. No one is 81 every time you tune in. You see Hawkeye laugh, Margaret smile, Radar look perplexed and Ho-jan need to talk to the guys. Forever young. Forever in our hearts," wrote another fan.
A third fan added, "It's too bad we never got to see a follow up episode," possibly referencing the fact that the character of Ho-Jon left the Korean War base camp to attend medical school in the United States and it may have been nice to see what became of the character.
Adiarte also played a key role in the three-part Brady Bunch arc where the family went to Hawaii in 1972. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adiarte was married from 1975 to 1992 but never had children; he is survived by several nieces and nephews.

People deletes Olivia Munn story after Ms. Rachel comments draw 'threats'
In a rare move, People magazine deleted a story from its website on Wednesday after it triggered 'violent' threats against its subject, the actress Olivia Munn, and her family. The story was about Munn's distaste for children's television and bore a headline specifically citing the popular YouTuber Ms. Rachel — which apparently triggered some fans. 'There is no excuse for these abhorrent attacks, and we will always prioritize safety above all else,' the publication acknowledged in a statement explaining the decision to remove a story. It's an unusual move for any news outlet to delete, rather than amend or update, a story — even People, which is generally considered a friendly go-to outlet for celebrities to share their stories. When asked for further information about removing the article, a People representative pointed back to its original statement. 'I don't believe in hate, attacks or hurtful comments.' Munn also criticized the coverage. 'To Ms Rachel and your fans, I hear and respect the passion behind your support. Last year, at just 22 years old, the taxi driver from Gloucester underwent the hair transplant procedure at 360 Hair Clinic in Brighton. The clinic has shared multiple clips on social media showcasing his transformation, including a video taken six months post-surgery, highlighting fuller, thicker, and healthier-looking hair. "We developed a full post-treatment plan tailored specifically for Ben, combining in-clinic treatments and our 360 Optimum Hair products to protect the newly transplanted follicles, minimise shedding and promote healthy, long-term growth," the clinic wrote to caption one of their posts. We're pleased to see that the procedure has increased Ben's confidence and self-love! That said, Ben isn't the only boy from this year's cast of Love Island to have had a hair transplant. Semi-pro footballer Harry Cooksley also underwent a transformation in Istanbul, Turkey, at just 24 years old. Harry has previously said that he underwent the "perfect experience". The increasing openness among male reality TV stars about cosmetic procedures reflects a broader societal shift towards destigmatising such treatments. And while users on social media can be cruel, the reach that certain forums have has played a significant role in normalising discussions around hair loss and restoration, encouraging more and more individuals to speak about men's grooming and self-image.
