Paper checks ending! 500,000 seniors must act fast as social security goes digital this fall
Social Security paper checks are ending this fall—here's what seniors need to know- For the roughly half a million Americans who still walk out to their mailbox each month for a Social Security check, big changes are coming—and fast. Starting September 30, 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will stop mailing paper checks altogether. That means all federal benefit payments, including Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and others, will be delivered electronically only—either via direct deposit or through a government-issued debit card. This shift was ordered by President Trump in March 2025 as part of a broader federal push to modernize and secure government payments. Although more than 73 million Americans receive Social Security benefits today, less than 1%—roughly 520,000 people—still get paper checks in the mail. This group includes: Seniors over 80 Those living in rural or tribal areas Live Events Individuals without bank accounts People with disabilities or limited digital access SSA says it's already reaching out directly to these beneficiaries to ensure they know about the change and have time to switch to an electronic option. Why is this change happening now? This move to go fully paperless isn't just about convenience—it's about security and savings. According to the U.S. Treasury: Paper checks are 16 times more likely to be lost or stolen than electronic payments. Switching to digital methods could save the government up to $750 million annually. Plus, electronic payments are faster and more reliable, arriving directly in beneficiaries' bank accounts or on prepaid debit cards like Direct Express®. What do you need to do before the September 30 deadline? If you're still receiving a paper check, you need to take action now to avoid a payment delay—or worse, a disruption in benefits. Here are your options: Set up direct deposit: You can link your Social Security benefits to your checking or savings account. This is the fastest and most secure option. Enroll in the Direct Express® card program: If you don't have a bank account, the government offers a prepaid debit card that automatically loads your benefits each month. It's a great option for the unbanked. Apply for a waiver: If switching to electronic payments poses a serious hardship—for example, if you live in a remote area without banking access—you may be eligible for a Treasury Department waiver. But you must apply before September 30. You can make these changes by: Visiting Logging into your mySocialSecurity account Calling 1-800-772-1213 Or stopping by your local SSA office What happens if you don't switch in time? If you miss the September 30 deadline and don't apply for a waiver, your Social Security payments may be delayed, held, or temporarily suspended until you set up an approved electronic option. SSA has warned that high call volumes and in-person visits could create long wait times as the deadline approaches, so it's best to act early. Is anyone concerned about this transition? While the change promises savings and security, advocates are concerned about vulnerable groups: Seniors who aren't tech-savvy Individuals without internet or smartphone access Residents in rural or tribal areas with limited infrastructure Organizations are urging the SSA to ensure a smooth transition and offer adequate support for those most at risk of losing access to benefits. Don't wait to act The shift away from paper checks marks a major milestone in how Social Security benefits are delivered. But for the 500,000+ Americans still relying on their mailboxes, the message is clear: September 30 is your deadline. Make sure you're set up for direct deposit or get your Direct Express® card soon. If you or someone you care about might struggle with this transition, now's the time to help them take action. Need help walking through the process or finding the right option? I can assist with that—just ask. FAQs: Q1: When will Social Security paper checks stop? A1: Paper checks for Social Security will end on September 30, 2025 . Q2: What if I don't have a bank account for my Social Security benefits? A2: You can use the Direct Express® debit card to receive your payments.

Maruti Suzuki's first EV could debut on Sept 3. Here's everything to know
Maruti Suzuki has sent out an invite for September 3, 2025. It is expected that the brand's first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara will be launched on that day. As the first electric model from Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market, this SUV is one of the most anticipated EV launches of the year. The e-Vitara will compete in a growing segment of electric SUVs, taking on popular rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, BE.06, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV. While the Indian version is yet to be fully revealed, the e-Vitara is already on sale in the UK, offering key insights into its features and performance capabilities. The e-Vitara showcases a futuristic and clean design, in line with modern electric vehicles. It sports LED projector headlamps, Y-shaped LED DRLs, and integrated front fog lamps. Being an EV, it ditches the conventional radiator grille, giving it a sleek and aerodynamic front look. The profile is enhanced with black body cladding and 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. At the back, a blacked-out bumper, three-piece LED tail lamps, and a connecting gloss black strip give it a distinctive appearance. A file photo of the e Vitara at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi, held in January 2025. The SUV will be manufactured by Suzuki Motor Gujarat. Inside the cabin, the e-Vitara is designed to impress with a dual-screen setup that includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. A dual-spoke steering wheel, rectangular AC vents, auto-dimming rearview mirror (IRVM), and semi-leatherette upholstery elevate the premium feel. Key features also include an electronic parking brake, wireless smartphone charging, ventilated front seats, 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, and a panoramic sunroof. For safety, it offers seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Internationally, the e-Vitara is available with two battery configurations: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh version provides a range of up to 344 km (WLTP) and features a front-wheel-drive (FWD) electric motor delivering 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque. The 61 kWh battery is offered in both FWD and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants. The FWD setup delivers 171 bhp and a maximum range of 426 km, while the AWD version boosts power to 181 bhp and 307 Nm, offering a slightly lower range of 395 km. In a major move towards electric mobility, Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its first electric car, the e Vitara, at an international event in Milan, Italy. Charging is quick and convenient. The 49 kWh battery takes around 6.5 hours with a 7 kW AC charger and 4.5 hours using an 11 kW charger. The 61 kWh pack requires approximately nine hours with 7 kW and 5.5 hours using 11 kW. Both battery packs can fast charge from 10% to 80% in just 45 minutes via DC fast charging. With the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki EV India is ready to challenge established electric SUV players. Its modern design, feature-rich cabin, and practical range figures make it a promising contender in the Indian EV landscape.

Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Truck Spied Testing: Watch Video
Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the development of multiple new products. The test mules of these products are being spotted on Indian roads. Until now, the automotive enthusiasts have spotted the facelift version of Thar, XUV700, BE Rall-e, and others. Extending the list further, the Scorpio N-based pickup truck has been spied testing in Maharashtra. Although it was covered in camouflage with headlights and taillights meant for trial, it still revealed quite a few details. The one in the video is the double-cab version of the pickup truck. Previous spy shots confirmed that the model will have two iterations: a single-cab and a double-cab version. This means that the brand will have various iterations of the vehicle to serve consumers with various needs. The one in this case is the double-cab version. It seems to have a new grille and a shark fin antenna. Based on the video, the Scorpio N pickup truck's double-cab version is equipped with basic steel wheels. Both models come with a roll bar that rises above the roof of the cabin, a feature likely designed for structural safety in rollover scenarios. At the back, the production test units appear to utilize halogen taillamps, which seem to have replaced the LED lights showcased in the original concept. These halogen lights resemble those found on the previous Scorpio Getaway. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Amarjeet Singh | Journalist (@autotubeindia) The previously revealed concept version boasted an impressive array of modern technologies, including Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), 5G connectivity, trailer sway control, several airbags, driver fatigue detection, and Mahindra's 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system. It remains to be seen how many of these features will be incorporated into the final production model. In terms of mechanics, the forthcoming pickup is anticipated to share its powertrain with current Mahindra SUVs. This likely means it will include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Expected transmission options are a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, along with the choice of a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
