Selena Gomez's New Album Has Managed To Produce A No. 1 Hit
Selena Gomez has delivered plenty of hits throughout her pop career, but her latest album hasn't produced any major smashes. While that's still the case, at least one tune from the singer's new project, I Said I Love You First – a collaborative full-length with her fiancé Benny Blanco – has become a chart-topper.
Gomez is back in charge of one of Billboard's songs rankings this week. 'Ojos Tristes' launches at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart. The genre-blending collaboration with Blanco and the band The Marías – though the band isn't credited on the tune when it comes to this specific Billboard chart, and only this one – gives I Said I Love You First a breakout hit…if only on one tally, and only for a moment.
While Gomez doesn't often make music in Spanish, this tune does not mark her first trip to the summit on this particular tally. 'Ojos Tristes' is her fifth leader on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard's ranking of the top-selling Spanish-language songs in the U.S.
She first rose to the top back in 2018 with the global smash 'Taki Taki,' fronted by DJ Snake and also featuring Ozuna and Cardi B. That track dominated for 19 weeks. Then, in 2021, she returned with three more hits: 'De Una Vez,' 'Baila Conmigo' with Rauw Alejandro, and 'Selfish Love,' another cut with DJ Snake. All three climbed to No. 1, though they didn't hold on nearly as long as her first.
Including her latest release, Gomez has now scored 10 wins on the Latin Digital Song Sales tally. Half of those tracks — five in total — have climbed all the way to the peak. Beyond that, just one other track, '999,' her team-up with Camilo, managed to break into the top 10, but it didn't quite make it to the highest tier.
'Ojos Tristes' isn't the only tune from I Said I Love You First impacting the rankings in America. It's one of at least half a dozen songs featured on the full-length that appear somewhere on the Billboard charts. Several of the cuts, including 'Ojos Tristes,' manage to break onto the Hot 100, with others find space on the global tallies and even the dance rankings. The album is a multi-genre affair, and while it may not be filled with obvious hits, it's clear that plenty of listeners engaged with the project in its debut frame.
