Stalin has plunged Tamil Nadu into unprecedented debt, says Palaniswami
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of plunging Tamil Nadu into unprecedented debt, claiming that the State now topped the chart in availing loans and burdening individuals with increasing liabilities. Addressing a public meeting in Vedaranyam as part of his Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom campaign, Mr. Palaniswami said: 'Under Mr. Stalin's government, a child is born with a debt of ₹1.5 lakh. This is the result of financial mismanagement and poor governance.' He alleged that the DMK government had borrowed over ₹5 lakh crore since coming to power this term and warned that the burden of repayment would fall on the people. 'To cover these debts, they will impose new taxes or increase existing ones. It is the public who will pay for the government's inefficiency,' he said. 'The DMK calls Mr. Stalin a 'Super Chief Minister' and claims Tamil Nadu leads the nation. But the State tops only in getting loans,' he added. Vacancies in government posts Mr. Palaniswami said nearly 5 lakh posts remained vacant across direct government departments and associated sectors. 'But under this government, only 50,000 vacancies have been filled,' he said. Over 20,000 government employees retired in a single month recently, and more than 75,000 retired over the past four years. 'When will all these vacancies be filled? In today's situation, even educated youth are struggling to find employment,' the former Chief Minister added. While addressing a gathering in Nagapattinam Town, Mr. Palaniswami referred to the Nadanthai Vaazhi Cauvery project — an initiative estimated at ₹11,500 crore that was proposed during the AIADMK regime and approved by the Centre. He said preliminary work had begun with an initial outlay of ₹990 crore, aimed at preventing the mixing of contaminated water in the Cauvery and ensuring it is cleaned before release. 'This was a visionary project of the AIADMK government, but the DMK has shown no interest in taking it forward or pressing for its speedy implementation. When the AIADMK returns to power, we will work closely with the Centre and ensure it is completed,' he said. Later in the day, a roadshow was held from Thagattoor Kadai Veethi to Vaimedu Kadai Veethi in Vedaranyam, drawing enthusiastic participation from party cadres and the public. Earlier, Mr. Palaniswami visited the Velankanni Basilica, where he lit candles and offered prayers. He also visited the coastal villages of Seruthur and Nabiyarnagar, where he interacted with the fishing community. In Nagapattinam town, he addressed another gathering at a private hall near Puthur, where he held discussions with representatives of farmer organisations, fishermen leaders, and students on issues affecting the district.

Waive off dues accruing out of CAPF deployment: CM to Shah
Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday urged Union home minister Amit Shah waive off Centre's dues, amounting to Rs 13,299.69 crore, which has accumulated in lieu of deployment of Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) in Jharkhand for anti-extremist operations over the years. Notably, the centre has asked the state to pay the amount which has accrued since CRPF was deployed by centre for the operations in Jharkhand. A statement issued by the state information and public relations department late on Friday night said, "The CM in his letter urged the dues to be waived off as its payment would cause a financial burden on limited resources of the state and would affect implementation of development schemes." At present, 14 battalions of central paramilitary forces including nine of CRPF, two of CoBRA and three of Seema Suraksha Bal are deployed in anti-extremist operations in Jharkhand. The development comes after Shah chaired a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council in Ranchi earlier this month and declared the Jharkhand, along with several other of its neighbouring states, had become largely free of Naxalism. Soren said the state govt is tackling disasters and implementing social welfare schemes successfully after the Covid-19 pandemic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Jharkhand has been one of the states to be affected the most by left wing extremism and eradicating it from its roots is a shared responsibility of the Centre and state," he was quoted as mentioning in his letter. Soren further said that the state police, along with CRPF deployed by Centre, is carrying out anti-extremist operations. Their activities have significantly reduced, and 400 police personnel were killed in the operations. "In such a backdrop, necessary steps should be taken under the principle of cooperative federalism to waive off the retention charges for deployment of central armed police force to carry out anti-extremist operations," the CM wrote.

"In a democracy, we must listen to people's concerns. Environmental sensitivity and local participation must go hand-in-hand with development," he said. The minister appreciated the efforts of the Meghalaya administration and civil society for the visible progress on the ground. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the northeast has seen a decline in violence and insurgency, stronger financial support from the Centre, and increased ministerial outreach over the years. He called for transforming Khasi Hills into a model of development, stating, "Let it be an example of what a truly developed India can look like. I am truly pleased to see the honest and dedicated efforts made by the administration here in Khasi Hills. It is visible on the ground, and I congratulate everyone involved".
