iPhone users can take great July 4 fireworks photos — by following this one simple rule
Blurry, boring photos of fireworks — that were plenty exhilarating in person — have become staples of modern July 4 celebrations. For the most part, taking photos with an iPhone is as simple as it gets — point, then click. When it comes to dark settings and dynamic light sources, however — ranging from sparklers in your driveway to jaw-dropping public spectaculars — amateur photography becomes little more difficult. According to the experts at Apple, however, there's a really easy way to make your photos go from subdued to stunning. Of course, it goes without saying that the first thing you need to do is make sure the flash is turned off. But here's the really important rule to follow — toggle your camera settings to Live Photo, which will allow your device to capture tonight's fast-moving fun. 3 Reducing the brightness of your photos in edit mode afterwards can also help bring fireworks to life. Apple The Live Photos feature allows users to replay a second and a half before and after their finger hits the button — and after reviewing each frame, you can select the sharpest still from the whole range, pressing the 'Make Key Photo' bubble to lock that into place. It's as simple as that, the pros promise. Looking to up your game? A popular application called Slow Shutter Cam will allow you to lengthen the exposure, resulting in photos that capture the trails of light that things like fireworks and sparklers leave behind, Apple said. 3 Horizontal shots are generally recommended for capturing scenes like fireworks. Soloviova Liudmyla – 3 Serious shutterbugs can also opt for a tripod, experts say. Tom Wang – The tech titan recommends setting the capture mode in the app to Low Light, and following it up with Noise Reduction at medium, and Shutter Speed at four seconds, but once you snap a few shots, playing around with the app's settings can yield some more experimental photos that you'll barely believe were shot on an iPhone. Going even further, iPhone photography experts say that if you're serious about getting a good shot of the seasonal fireworks, a tripod isn't a bad investment — especially if you tend to have shaky hands. Even the smallest tremor, like the one that comes from clicking the capture button, can result in blurry beams of light exuding from the fireworks. The time lapse and panorama functions on iPhones can also prove for some cool shots, depending on where you're holding your impromptu photoshoot. New York City is home to one of the country's most impressive displays, and this year, the Macy's July 4 fireworks show is back on the East River, and literally bigger than ever. 80,000 shells are expected to be set off from the Brooklyn Bridge, compared to last year's 60,000. The show is also expected to boast over 30 colors to spot, and 11 new effects to keep an eye out for. The show is slated to start at 8 p.m, but it's likely the fireworks portion won't begin until well after the sun sets, at around 9:45 p.m. Lower Manhattan and areas near Brooklyn Bridge Park are prime viewing spots to be sure, but don't rule out non-traditional spots and decks elsewhere in the city.

Slow Horses Season 5: Release date, cast, and what to expect
By Aman Shukla Published on July 4, 2025, 18:00 IST Last updated July 4, 2025, 10:51 IST Slow Horses , the acclaimed Apple TV+ espionage drama based on Mick Herron's Slough House novels, continues to captivate audiences with its sharp writing, dark humor, and stellar performances. Following the success of Season 4, which premiered in September 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting Season 5. Here's everything confirmed about Slow Horses Season 5. Slow Horses Season 5 Release Date Apple TV+ has confirmed that Slow Horses Season 5 will premiere on September 24, 2025, with the first episode, followed by one episode weekly until the finale on October 22, 2025. This aligns with the show's pattern of annual releases, as Season 4 debuted in September 2024. The six-episode season will stream exclusively on Apple TV+, maintaining the series' rapid production pace, with five seasons delivered in just over three years. Slow Horses Season 5 Cast The ensemble cast of Slow Horses remains a highlight, and Season 5 will feature the return of key actors, as confirmed by Apple TV+ and other sources. The following cast members are set to reprise their roles: Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb , the brilliant but abrasive leader of Slough House. Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner , MI5's cunning Deputy Director-General. Jack Lowden as River Cartwright , a skilled agent relegated to Slough House after a career misstep. Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish , the team's administrative anchor with a troubled past. Rosalind Eleazar as Louisa Guy , a capable agent navigating personal challenges. Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho , the socially awkward tech expert. Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Shirley Dander , an impulsive but talented agent. Ruth Bradley as Emma Flyte , a newer MI5 operative introduced in Season 4. James Callis as Claude Whelan , MI5's head facing internal pressures. Tom Brooke as J.K. Coe , a reserved agent with a mysterious edge. Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright, River's retired MI5 veteran grandfather. Additionally, Nick Mohammed, known for Ted Lasso , joins the cast as a guest star, though his specific role has not been officially detailed by Apple TV+. Reports suggest he may play a significant political figure, adding a new dynamic to the series. Notably, Kadiff Kirwan will not return as Marcus Longridge due to his character's death in Season 4. No other cast additions have been confirmed by Apple TV+ at this time. What to Expect from Slow Horses Season 5 Slow Horses Season 5 will adapt London Rules, the fifth book in Mick Herron's Slough House series, continuing the show's trend of adapting one novel per season. According to Apple TV+'s official synopsis, 'Everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules — cover your back — always apply.' This suggests a season filled with espionage, intrigue, and the team's signature chaotic approach to solving complex cases. The season will explore the Slow Horses' efforts to unravel a web of strange incidents in London, with Roddy Ho's personal life playing a key role in the narrative. The series will maintain its blend of high-stakes action, dark humor, and character-driven drama, with Jackson Lamb's sharp wit and leadership at the forefront. Showrunner Will Smith and author Mick Herron have noted that Season 5 will reflect contemporary British politics, drawing on themes from London Rules about self-inflicted national challenges and the unsung efforts of Slough House's misfits. Apple TV+ has also confirmed a sixth season, set to adapt Joe Country and parts of Slough House , indicating that Season 5 will lay groundwork for future storylines. The series' fast-paced production and critical acclaim, including a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score and Emmy wins, ensure that Season 5 will deliver the intense storytelling fans expect.
