Teen Titans: James Gunn Offers Disappointing Update for DCU Movie

Yahoo29-07-2025
James Gunn has offered an update about the DCU movie.
In March 2024, it was reported that a Teen Titans movie was in development at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. Written by Ana Nogueira, the film will be part of Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU, which officially kicked off in December 2024 with Creature Commandos.
Safran said about the project, via Variety, in February 2025, 'The script's not ready yet. I mean, I think we said that Ana Nogueira is writing it.'
'We haven't said that,' Gunn said.
'No, I think it was out there,' Safran said. 'I think it was out there.'
'It's out there,' Gunn said. 'It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. She's fiddling with that now, but it's definitely not a finished script.'
What did James Gunn say about Teen Titans?
On Threads, Gunn clarified that when he said 'she turned over an amazing script for us,' he was referring to Nogueira's script for Supergirl, which arrives in 2026, rather than the Teen Titans movie.
Nogueira is now writing the DCU Wonder Woman movie. While Jeff Sneider's The InSneider recently reported that Nogueira 'has already handed in her first draft of Teen Titans, and owes DC a revision, which she'll work on while writing Wonder Woman,' Gunn says the Teen Titans script 'doesn't exist' at this point in time.
In another comment, he reiterated that he has 'never read a script' for Teen Titans and seemed to confirm that the project is on the back burner for now.
Neither the DCU Teen Titans nor Wonder Woman movies have release dates at this time; however, Wonder Woman is expected to come first, as Gunn recently said it's a priority for the studio at this time following the success of Superman. No director is yet attached to the project.

Thank God James Gunn Changed His Mind About Giving Superman Red Trunks

By this point, it's safe to say that Superman has been an enormous success, both at the box office and among audiences and critics, for director James Gunn and the team at DC Studios. In the wake of the film's meteoric rise, we finally got a look at some concept art of what it would've looked like if David Corenswet's caped hero didn't have his iconic red trunks. Yesterday, graphic and surface designer Maybelle Pineda shared a post that gives DC fans a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Superman's suit. Her post included an early concept design of Superman's suit, which notably lacks his iconic red trunks. If you've ever played with a knock-off Superman toy that had off-model colors, you'll understand the strange feeling of viewing this early concept. For whatever reason, Supes not having red underwear worn over his all-blue suit and slacks makes him look naked. View this post on InstagramFamously, the production crew behind Superman had a back-and-forth over whether or not the Man of Steel would don his underwear on the outside or not. Back in the day, Zack Snyder plunged us into such a bizarro world with Henry Cavill's Superman not wearing red trunks, which nearly broke the internet when it was first revealed. While Gunn, in all his infinite wisdom guiding DC Studios into a new era, was initially in camp 'no trunks,' we have Corenswet's gift of persuasion to thank for championing Superman in red trunks. 'We were trying on all these different versions, and we screened tested with trunks and no trunks,' Gunn explained to io9 on the set of the film last year. 'And one of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. He's an alien. He's got these incredible powers. He shoots beams out of his eyes… He's this incredibly powerful, could be considered scary, individual and he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that hope that shows that positivity. And that really clicked in for me. And I think trying to pretend that Superman's costume doesn't have some frivolity to it at its base, trying to make it look serious, is silly because he is a superhero. He's the first one, brightly colored and that's who he is.' Thankfully, Corenswet, knowing ball about the aesthetic and thematic benefits of Superman's red trunks, swayed Gunn out of making the bold decision to give us another fashion faux pas Superman. Clayface Cast: DCU Movie Eyeing The Handmaid's Tale Star

The cast of the DCU movie is growing. Clayface is a new DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie expected to arrive in 2026. Directed by James Watkins, the film will see Tom Rhys Harries play the villainous Batman character of the same name. Who has joined the cast of Clayface? Max Minghella is being eyed for a key role in the Clayface movie, according to Nexus Point News. The outlet reports that Minghella is being looked at to play a character named John, 'a detective and fiancé to Caitlin Bates, who's suspicious of his fiancée's relationship with Matt Hagen/Clayface.' Nexus Point News further reports that Mickey 17's Naomi Ackie has now officially been offered the role of Caitlin, who will be Hagen's love interest and doctor. Minghella is best known for playing Nick Blaine in The Handmaid's Tale, a role that earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2021. He's also recognized for playing Divya Narendra in 2010's The Social Network, while his filmography further includes 2011's The Ides of March, 2013's Horns, 2016's The 9th Life of Louis Drax, 2021's Spiral, and 2022's Babylon. The script for the DCU Clayface movie comes from Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House) and Hossein Amini. James Gunn has previously confirmed that the movie is being made to receive an R-rating. Watkins has previously directed movies such as 2008's Eden Lake, 2012's The Woman in Black, 2016's Bastille Day, and 2024's Speak No Evil, while he additionally helmed the 'Shut Up and Dance' episode of Black Mirror and was a second unit director on 2009's The Descent Part 2. Clayface hits United States theaters on September 11, 2026. Prior to that, the next DCU project will be Peacemaker Season 2, which premieres on HBO Max later this month, while Lanterns and Supergirl are also both coming out in 2026. Solve the daily Crossword

PEACEMAKER Star John Cena Explains His Last Minute Call From James Gunn to Cameo in SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant

John Cena is at the forefront of DC's resurgence under the guidance of James Gunn. He plays Peacemaker, who we first saw in Gunn's The Suicide Squad . Peacemaker has returned for a series that follows the anti-hero as he 'returns home after recovering from his encounter with Bloodsport - only to discover that his freedom comes at a price.' But ahead of his return in the second season of his show later this month, we got to see him for a brief cameo in Gunn's DC summer blockbuster Superman . Cena opened up about the cameo in a recent video, which you can check out below, and he said of the experience: "I was called in at the final hour as we were preparing for Peacemaker season 2. I did the costume fittings for the new Peacemaker season 2 wardrobe. They were filming Superman at the time, and James [Gunn] asked me if I wanted to be involved, and my answer was, 'Heck yes!'. So I got to go on a talk show and talk some smack about Superman." When asked why he thinks Superman is iconic, Cena responded: "Well, I think everything from the branding to the idea of a true virtuous superhero, you have to start the story of good and evil somewhere, and I think Superman is building block one of that." Superman is still playing in theaters, and Peacemaker season 2 premieres on HBO on August 21st.
