BMRCL employees' union oppose plan to outsource metro train pilots and operations staff
The BMRCL Employees' Union has raised objections to a recent move by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to outsource key operational roles, including Metro Train Pilots (MTPs), train operation supervisors, and train operation managers, for the upcoming Reach-5 and Reach-6 lines of Phase II.
Speaking to The Hindu, Suryanarayan Murthy, vice-president of the union, said that the BMRCL has floated a tender to contract private firms for the operation of metro train services on these stretches, as well as at the depots. 'This is a government-owned company, and such critical posts should not be handed over to private players. We will oppose this move,' he said.
Mr. Murthy warned that outsourcing such essential roles would directly impact BMRCL employees, particularly when it comes to career progression and job security. 'Even though the BMRCL has said that selected candidates will be trained, this still dilutes the importance of in-house staff,' he added.
However, a senior BMRCL official clarified that the outsourcing decision has been taken primarily to address the current shortage of trained staff and to ensure that services on the new metro lines can begin on time. 'Chennai and Hyderabad metros have adopted similar outsourcing models, which help bring down operational costs while maintaining efficiency,' the official said.
The official added that the move is a temporary measure aimed at meeting operational deadlines and that regular recruitment for permanent staff will continue as planned.

BAMUL intends to open Nandini parlours near Bengaluru metro stations
To provide a push to the 'Nandini' brand, D.K. Suresh, president of Bangalore Milk Union Ltd. (BAMUL), met with top officials of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Friday, requesting them to provide space to construct Nandini parlours near metro stations. 'With the aim of expanding the sales network of Nandini milk and dairy products, a request was submitted to grant space for constructing Nandini parlours in the open vacant areas belonging to the department in front of metro stations to sell the products,' Mr. Suresh said on social media platform X. Sources in BMRCL said that while the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will set up Nandini parlours in six metro stations, BAMUL has also been asked to identify the other stations where they would want to set up the parlours. Previously, in June, KMF was instructed by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to submit applications to a tender called by BMRCL to open Nandini outlets in metro stations after the government was blamed by the opposition for favouring Amul over Nandini. Amul was the lone applicant for BMRCL's tender and was allowed to open its outlets in 10 metro stations.

Finally, Namma Metro's Yellow Line gets ISA clearance
BENGALURU: Namma Metro's Yellow Line has finally received the much-awaited Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report, which now allows the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to call for a Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection. The certification was issued by an Italian state-run agency in collaboration with Siemens India Ltd–Siemens AG, the signalling contractor for the Yellow Line, on Thursday. The ISA report was delayed due to technical glitches discovered during the review of key datasets, which required software updates. Without this report, the BMRCL could not proceed with the mandatory CMRS inspection. Confirming the development, BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer Yashwant Chavan told TNIE, 'We have received the ISA report. Following this, we will be going forward with the next step to call the CMRS for inspection.' Former BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao had earlier said that the Yellow Line was likely to be launched by August 15. SURYA SEEKS CENTRE'S INTERVENTION TO FAST-TRACK YELLOW LINE LAUNCH Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Friday, and sought his intervention to fast-track the commissioning of Namma Metro's Yellow Line. In the meeting, Surya requested the minister that the submission of the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report be expedited for early approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), and inauguration of the long-pending Yellow Line. Surya also stressed the need for greater support for Transit Oriented Development (TOD) across Indian cities and called for sustained funding towards public transport systems. 'We must prioritise moving people over cars,' he said, adding that India should aim to have at least five cities among the world's most livable cities in the next decade. The MP also pitched for standardisation of Metro trains across the country. He said uniformity in train design would facilitate interoperability, reduce delivery timelines, and build global-scale manufacturing capacity within India. The Yellow Line, a key stretch under Phase 2 of Namma Metro, was initially expected to be operational by mid-2023.

Meanwhile, the MP met Union minister for housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) Manohar Lal, seeking his intervention for early CMRS clearance and early commissioning of the line.
