MoScNet uses a Vision-Language Model (VLM) architecture and performs far better than existing OCR tools. It's light, scalable, and ideal for use even in low-infrastructure regions where these manuscripts are found.
The AI tool was developed under Prof. Sparsh Mittal at IIT Roorkee, with help from students Harshal and Tanvi (COEP Pune) and Onkar (Vishwakarma Institute). Their work brought the model to life and shaped its real-world usability.SUPPORTS BHARATGPT, BHASHINI, AND GLOBAL HERITAGE EFFORTSThe model fits into big national missions like Digital India, BharatGPT, Bhashini, and even aligns with UN SDG Goal 11.4, which focuses on protecting cultural heritage. It could also be adapted globally for endangered scripts. Both the MoScNet model and the MoDeTrans dataset are now open-sourced on Hugging Face, allowing researchers worldwide to build on this innovation.- Ends

CAs must possess advanced technical knowledge: Lokesh
Guntur: Minister for Human Resources Development and Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, emphasized that Chartered Accountants (CAs) must possess advanced technical knowledge, global awareness, AI-based communication skills, and ethical integrity. He acknowledged that while the course may be challenging, it prepares youth to reach their highest potential, comparing the difficulty of obtaining a CA degree to the process of making a diamond. He addressed the mega CA student conference 'Sphoorthi,' organised by the ICAI Guntur Chapter at Bandlamudi Gardens in Guntur on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he mentioned that as part of the Viksit Bharat vision, Prime Minister Modi has set a goal for India to achieve a $30 trillion economy by 2047, with Andhra Pradesh contributing $2.4 trillion to this target. Although he is not a Chartered Accountant himself, Lokesh, a Stanford MBA graduate, expressed his understanding of the importance of this profession. He stated, 'Whenever there's a lack of clarity in business, we turn to our CAs. In governance, no government document requiring budgetary approval can proceed without an auditor's stamp. We trust Chartered Accountants to uphold faith in the system. Every rupee earned and every job created has a CA behind it. Our government values the input of CAs and includes them in policymaking. You don't just certify balance sheets.'

The unit is expected to provide employment to around 3,000 people and generate indirect employment for many others, Reddy added. Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw said Hyderabad city is a prime focus for the development of the railway network. The South Central Railway General Manager, headquartered in Secunderabad, has been given a target to increase the network's capacity in the Hyderabad area (including Secunderabad and other stations) from about 600 trains a day to 1,200 trains per day, he said. Vaishnaw also said the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Telangana would be a game-changer. He noted that when Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently met him in Delhi, the CM had requested a 30-metre corridor alongside the RRR project to enable rail connectivity throughout the stretch.

IIT Roorkee develops world's first AI tool to decode Modi script into Devanagari
In a major push for India's digital heritage mission, IIT Roorkee has created the world's first AI model that transliterates the ancient Modi script into Devanagari. The tool, called MoScNet, helps convert old handwritten manuscripts into readable text, making them accessible for research, education, and project, named Historic Scripts to Modern Vision, also includes a one-of-a-kind dataset -- MoDeTrans -- that has over 2,000 images of original Modi script manuscripts. These cover eras from Shivaji's time to the British period and come with verified Devanagari India, there are more than 40 million records in Modi script, from land deeds and Ayurveda texts to medieval science. With very few experts who can read the script, this AI model fills a massive research and preservation DOES THE TOOL WORK?
