Battlefield 6's multiplayer looks like a true return to form for the franchise
The release date was also confirmed for October 10, and that says quite a lot about EA's faith in the latest entry in the Battlefield franchise. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launching in November, Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be quite the title if the team is confident enough to go nearly head-to-head with CoD.

Here's what you need to know. The game will feature nine maps at launch, including a remake of Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3. The nine maps are a mix of wide-open battlefields ideal for Conquest mode, as well as closer-range maps like Gibraltar. The trailer showed a map set in New York City, with the Brooklyn Bridge prominent in the background.
The old class system is also making a welcome comeback. Once again, you'll take on the role of Recon, Assault, Engineer, and Support depending on your team's current need in the fight. Players will step into the shoes of specific characters in the single-player mode, but it doesn't seem (at least from what we've seen so far) that Specialists from Battlefield 2042 is coming back.
The classes have also seen a few changes, such as the Support class gaining the ability to pull injured players behind cover and out of the line of fire.
The graphics have obviously seen a solid upgrade, and though the trailer didn't show hit markers or score indicators, don't worry. They must have been removed for cinematic reasons, because the live gameplay after the initial presentation looked just like the battlefield you know and love.
Finally, the game will be restricted to 64-player battles. The franchise tried out 128-player battles in Battlefield 2042, but it was largely unpopular, and it didn't take long before custom playlists tended to feature strictly 64-player lobbies. DICE seems to have learned from its mistakes, although the door for larger maps remains open through Battlefield Labs.
Portal also makes an appearance, allowing players to create custom game modes and experiences with insane objectives that look like they're taken straight from the Halo custom game manual.
If you're interested to play ahead of time — and you're already signed up for Battlefield Labs — you can take part in a public beta starting August 7 and 8. If you aren't already signed up, the beta will run between August 9 and 10 and then again from August 14-17. It's a great chance to test the waters before the game officially launches this October.

Here's The Exact Time ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6' And Warzone Season 5 Starts And What To Expect
A whole bunch of new content is about to land in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. This includes new multiplayer maps and modes, new Zombies content and one very big change to the battle royale map, Verdansk. There's also a new Battle Pass and BlackCell Battle Pass, new weapons and more. Here's everything you need to know about Call Of Duty Season 5. Season 5 releases August 7th at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET across all platforms. Most of the season's new content will be available at launch or close to the beginning of the season, while more maps and modes will become available at the mid-season update (in about five weeks). Multiplayer Season 5 Update Several new maps are releasing in Season 5, including three launch maps available at the start of the season: Runway (6v6, Medium-Sized) A medium-sized map that takes place at Arzak Provincial Airport, Runway has both interior and exterior zones with plenty of options for close-quarters engagements. Exchange (2v2, 6v6 Small-Sized) FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder This Strike map takes place in the Avalon marketplace. The symmetrical, three-lane map is centered around a Deli. The map will be available in both Faceoff and Gunfight modes. W.M.D. (6v6 Medium-Sized) W.M.D. was first introduced in the original Black Ops game. It's reimagined here as a luxury Italian car manufacturer in Avalon. The snow from the original map is gone. Now clouds hang above the Autofiorno plant, though the layout should be familiar to long-time fans of the Black Ops franchise. I think it's worth noting that both the last two maps take place in Avalon, the location for the much-rumored upcoming Warzone big map. Is this an indication that Avalon will make its debut alongside Black Ops 7 at the end of the year? As much as I do enjoy Verdansk, I'm ready for another new Warzone map. The mid-season update will include one more map: Jackpot is inspired by the Black Ops 4 map 'Casino' and takes place in the Casino Luttazzi. It combines elements of that map with the High Rollers mission from the Black Ops 6 campaign, reworking both the layout and the aesthetic of the original map. New modes and playlists coming to Season 5 include: Multiplayer is also getting the new Combat Bow Scorestreak. It fires single-shot, explosive-tipped arrows that deal incendiary damage. Other updates to multiplayer include a new season of Ranked Mode with all-new rewards including weapon camos and a Jackal PDW SMG blueprint, calling cards, decals and more. Zombies Season 5 Update The Reckoning Zombies map lands at launch for Season 5, with a guided mode releasing at the mid-season update. The new map takes place in crumbling towers near Liberty Falls. The new Elite Enemy, Uber Klaus, joins the fray. The giant mecha-zombie should provide a tough new challenge for players. Uber Klaus is joined by other smaller robots (Kommando Klaus) that appear after mysterious red mist descends on players. Players will also be able to get their hands on the new Wonder Weapon Gorgofex that combines fungal, floral and insectile traits that deal damage and gravity-defying disruption. Grief Mode comes to Reckoning in-season. Two teams of 4 face off against one another and the zombies. This type of PvPvE content is exactly what brings me to modes like Zombies. I'm not a huge co-op gamer, but once you add in a competitive element I'm all-in. A Cranked mode also comes to Zombies in-season as well as plenty of other content. Warzone Season 5 Update Something big is happening in Verdansk. The Stadium POI has opened up, allowing players to once again access the interior and field. Only now . . . it sounds like a superweapon might be buried beneath. According to the Call Of Duty blog, 'The extent of the threat remains unclear, though a weapon capable of large-scale destruction is expected to be unearthed within the vicinity.' Could this be a hint that Verdansk is about to be destroyed to pave the way for the new Avalon map? That seems increasingly likely. A number of big changes and additions and modes are coming to Warzone in Season 5: New Contract – Satellite Hijack (In-Season, Week One) This is a special multi-stage contract that can only be accessed via the Stadium. This means it's going to be insanely hot. While info on what can be obtained by completing the contract is redacted, we know that it's a permanent unlock in your Gunsmith – either a weapon or weapon attachment of some sort. Stadium Resurgence LTM – 36 players (In-Season, Week Two) As you can see in this image, the Stadium is open but not all the way. A big hole has been blown in the roof, rather than the fully opened Stadium from the days of Verdansk past. The special LTM brings Resurgence to just this POI, which should make for fast and intense matches. There are a total of 7 circles. Deadline LTM (Mid-Season) This is a fun twist on the battle royale mode. Basically, players respawn just like Resurgence mode. As long as one of your teammates is alive, you'll come back. The twist? At the end of each circle, the team with the lowest point total is eliminated. You can earn points by getting eliminations, completing contracts, looting supplies and spending cash at Buy Stations. Points are reset completely with each new circle, so you'll never be able to rely on early gains. This mode includes both real human players and AI Bots. Ranked Battle Royale and Resurgence (Launch Window) Ranked is back for Season 5 on both Verdanks and Rebirth Island. New rewards including stickers, camos, Blueprints and more are available as you climb the ranks from Bronze to Top 250 (or get stuck at Platinum or Diamond like me). Solos Update Both Solos and Casual Solos will be available starting in Season 5 as well, along with Casual Quads and Casual Resurgence Quads. Normal Solos, however, will only be available in North America and Europe. New Weapons And Updates Across Multiplayer And Warzone Several new weapons are coming to MP and Warzone, all of which are free and unlocked either in the Battle Pass as free unlock tiers or through events. PML 5.56 LMG (Launch) A full-auto light machine gun with a fast rate of fire and high lethality offset by low mobility and hefty recoil. Apparently this LMG has a higher damage rate than most in its class, more comparable to ARs, but with slow reload and lots of recoil. This is unlocked in the Battle Pass. ABR A1 Assault Rifle (Launch) Three-round burst assault rifle. Good handling and power. Moderate recoil and range. Configurable to full auto. We haven't had any burst-fire ARs in Black Ops 6, oddly enough, though we've had full-auto and single-fire, as well as burst-fire Marksman Rifles. The ABR A1 is a new name for a classic Call of Duty AR, previously known as the AUG. This is also a Battle Pass unlock. Boxing Gloves Melee (In-Season) Boxing gloves do moderate damage but they're very fast and have more range than some melee weapons. You can unleash a furry of light blows or land a heavy attack. These are unlocked via an event in-season. Gravemark .357 Revolver (Mid-Season) Single-action revolver. High power and considerable range, limited by lower ammo count and segmented reload. It's frankly bizarre that this is the first Revolver we've had in the Secondary Weapon class in Black Ops 6 so far. I guess better late than never. The Gravemark .357 (cool name, I must admit) will finally allow me to play Custom Matches with only cowboy weapons (this and the Essex lever action rifle). New Weapon Attachments 9mm PM Skull Splitter – This barrel turns your 9mm pistol into a mini Marksman Rifle. Greatly increases damage, especially headshot damage, while reducing rate of fire. A new extended mag can add more ammunition to the gun at the expense of handling. PPSH-41 Hellcal Magazine – Replace the drum magazine on your PPSH-1 with this high-capacity mag, though you'll have to manage heat. Designed for close and medium range spray-and-pray combat. Everything Else New Events Several new Events are coming to Season 5 as well, including '90s Action Heroes (where you'll earn the Boxing Gloves), Hell Ride (where you'll unlock the Gravemark .357), Atomic Block Party (a Nuketown-inspired event) and The Reckoning Leaderboard Event in Zombies mode. Battle Pass Normal and BlackCell variants of the Season 5 Battle Pass will be available. New Operators include Sims, the special BlackCell Operator Solace, and skins for other Operators. The Battle Pass will include 100 tiers of cosmetic unlocks including weapon skins, charms, XP tokens and more. There's also another Replacer bundle headed to the in-game store along with an I Know What You Did Last Summer bundle. This is a good reminder that Call Of Duty continues to lean heavily into goofy skins, something that EA is hoping to avoid with Battlefield 6. Speaking of Battlefield 6, the game's Open Beta begins this weekend. The Early Access portion of the beta launches around the same time as Season 5 of Call Of Duty. Read all about the beta and how to get in early right here.

Jenna Ortega's Red-Carpet Dress Was More Morticia, Less Wednesday
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." On Tuesday night in New York City, Netflix held a special fan screening to celebrate the release of season two, part one of Wednesday. Taking place at the Paris Theater, the event was attended by various members of the cast, including lead star Jenna Ortega, who showed up in an outfit that honored her titular character, but had a touch of Morticia Addams to it too. The dress in question? A jet-black, gothic gown that was pulled from the Ann Demeulemeester Fall 2025 collection. The cowl-neck design was composed of two different fabrics: a shiny satin that formed the base, as well thick leather that cut across the dress in diagonal, wavy strips—sort of like bat wings. We know that Ortega's character loves herself some black, but this dress certainly wasn't conveying schoolgirl. It seemed more like something Wednesday's mom (played in the series by Catherine Zeta-Jones) would wear, symbolizing the maturation of Wednesday, and Ortega's desire to display a more adult image herself. To complete the look, the actor's stylist, Enrique Melendez, paired the dress with some scene-stealing footwear—a set of lace-up, knee-high leather boots from Miista. The square-toed shoes featured angular wedge heels and silver grommets studding the sides of the open front, where the laces looped through. As for beauty, Ortega's hair hung in front of her face like a curtain, and she rocked the same bleached brows she's had for many of her press engagements as of late. Earlier in the day, the Emmy nominee stepped out for two other events, where she wore a pair of looks from the Elena Velez Fall 2025 collection. The first was a nude, distressed corset dress, while the latter was a two-piece set consisting of a transparent ruched maxi skirt in brown, paired with a mustard, ruffled, off-the-shoulder top. Ortega turned to the New York-based designer the week prior too, when she wore one of her freakiest looks yet—a dress covered in strands of hair. With this latest promo cycle, Ortega's looks have certainly leant into the dramatic, be it with puffy sleeves and jutting hip shelves or giant crosses and eye-covering hats. Thankfully, we still have the release of her show's season two, part two to go, which means there might be some more unsettling, and outstanding, looks waiting in store. After 50 years, the Fleshtones ‘finally figured out how to make a record'
Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Fleshtones, so it's fitting that the rock-and-soul quartet ponders mortality on its latest album, 'It's Getting Late (... and More Songs about Werewolves).' The record includes an instrumental titled 'The Hearse' and a cover of an obscure Johnny Rivers song, 'Love Me While You Can,' that advises, 'Tomorrow the sun might not shine.' 'Yes, it is getting late,' singer-keyboardist Peter Zaremba acknowledges by phone from his New York City home. 'People we know are dying, you know? Our contemporaries. And younger, right?' At 70, Zaremba is only slightly older than the band's other founding member, singer-guitarist Keith Streng, and drummer Bill Milhizer, who joined in 1980. Ken Fox, who became the band's bassist in 1990, is 'almost 10 years younger,' Zaremba notes. 'He's a kid.' Of the bands that began their careers at famed New York City music club CBGB in 1976, only the Fleshtones have been active continuously ever since. Yet none of the members still live in Queens, where the group was founded. Zaremba divides his time between Brooklyn and 'way, way up in the northwest corner of Connecticut.' Fox and Milhizer moved upstate, and Streng is in Stockholm. 'We've been diffused, which is a problem,' allows Zaremba. 'We have to make an effort to get together.' 'It does keep us from getting tired of each other,' he adds. The Fleshtones are often described as a garage-rock band, and Zaremba agrees that the mid-1960s genre is one of their wellsprings. But he also lists blues, rhythm and blues, and New Orleans-style soul as important precedents. Pre-reggae Jamaican music is what Zaremba calls 'the hidden influence.' 'We've always used Jamaican music as an inspiration. The more R&B music, not so much the drugged-out kind of stuff.' The Fleshtones are known for cover versions, mostly of obscure or unexpected songs. ('It's Getting Late' includes a Stones-style version of Elton John's 'Empty Sky.') But Zaremba denies that he's a pop-music scholar. 'A lot of it was just stuff that we kind of remembered hearing on the radio or something,' he says. 'If I heard a song once in 1965, I can potentially remember what that song was.' The singer also reports that fans, friends 'and my cousin in St. Louis' often pitch little-known gems to the band, and that 'we try not to cover songs a lot of other people have covered.' Nine of the latest album's 13 songs were composed by Zaremba and Streng, and one by Fox. The band's songwriting hasn't faltered, the vocalist explains, because 'things keep happening to us. So we keep having things to write about. And it's weird, but I still have a bit of a backlog of songs in my head that I've been actually thinking about since the '60s.' 'Sometimes they sort of sound like they're from the '60s. Because they are.' An example of that is the new album's 'Morphine Drip,' which might sound as if it's about an end-of-life experience. It was actually inspired by the aftermath of a severe injury Zaremba suffered as a teenager. 'Morphine drip/ It didn't help a bit!' howls the song's chorus. One thing that has changed over time is the band's facility in the recording studio. 'We finally figured out how to make a record,' the singer says. 'Something that eluded us for about 20 years.' 'We don't spend three days getting a kick drum sound,' he notes. 'We know how to get sounds a lot quicker. We don't do 20 takes of a vocal. We go for it a lot fresher.' That urgency is also evident onstage, whether the band is playing in Europe — home to much of its fan base — or at 9:30 Club in D.C. 'It's wonderful,' Zaremba says. 'Not only are we still alive, but we're enjoying doing this so much. We make people happy. And we make ourselves happy at the same time.' So the Fleshtones will continue, the singer vows, even if it is getting late. 'We're just going to keep playing until it's, like, ridiculous.' Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $32.50.
