MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid reached a deal to sign Álvaro Carreras from Benfica on Monday, bringing back the young left back who came through the Spanish club's youth squads.
Madrid said the 22-year-old Carreras is arriving on a six-year contract. Financial details of the transfer were not immediately released.

Carreras played in Madrid's youth academy from 2017-20. The Spaniard joined Benfica from Manchester United after being named the English club's best under-23 player of the 2021-22 season. He won this year's Portuguese League Cup with Benfica.
Carreras will be officially introduced by Madrid on Tuesday.
Madrid was eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals of the Club World Cup. Madrid had a disappointing season by its standards, finishing runner-up to rival Barcelona in La Liga and being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League despite having signed France star Kylian Mbappé last summer.

Barcelona fall behind in race for leading transfer target

La Liga champions Barcelona find themselves falling off the pace in the race for a headline member of the club's summer transfer wishlist. The player in question? Luis Díaz. Wide-man Díaz has of course seen his name dominate the headlines in Catalunya's capital for some time now. As much comes after those behind the scenes at Barcelona were forced to shift focus towards a deal for the Colombian, following their failed pursuit of priority target Nico Williams. To date, however, the Blaugrana have been unable to meet the demands laid out by Liverpool. And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then as much appears to have culminated in the Catalans falling behind in the Díaz sweepstakes. As per a report from transfer insider , it is Bayern Munich who now boast the best position when it comes to the incorporation of the 28-year-old winger: 'Luis Díaz has not only informed Liverpool of his desire to leave, but has now also made it clear to Liverpool that he would like to join FC Bayern if possible.' Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce have reportedly established contact with Inter Milan superstar Hakan Calhanoglu. According to YS TV via FCInterNews, Jose Mourinho's men have contacted the player to gauge his interest in a potential move. Calhanoglu remains at the center of intense transfer speculation after a busted move to Galatasaray. Indeed, the reigning Super League holders had tried to lure the 31-year-old to Istanbul but to no avail. However, the ex-AC Milan midfielder could continue his career in the Turkish capital. Fenerbahce Contact Inter Milan Star Hakan Calhanoglu Fenerbahce president Ali Koc spoke to the skilled playmaker himself. Indeed, he tried to understand Calhanoglu's wage demands and Inter's asking price. It's no secret that the Serie A runners-up would only consider his sale for a monstrous proposal. Moreover, they've already slapped a €35 million price tag on their long-serving stalwart. Meanwhile, Hakan Calhanoglu has never asked to leave the club. However, his silence raises questions over his loyalty to the Nerazzurri shirt. Therefore, Fenerbahce may try to exploit the uncertainty and tempt Calhanoglu with a lucrative offer.

Inter's Lookman offer revealed as Atalanta ask for Pio Esposito

Inter are ready to hand Ademola Lookman a contract worth €4 million per season, if the Nigerian forward leaves Atalanta to sign for the Nerazzurri this summer, reports from Italy claim. According to reports from SkySport, Inter are refusing to increase their €40 million bid for the former Fulham player, as they look to use the player's desire to join the club as leverage in negotiations. Meanwhile, Sky are also reporting that in the negotiations, Atalanta enquired about Inter starlet Francesco Pio Esposito. However, Inter consider the young forward to be irreplaceable and responded to La Dea's interest with a firm 'no'. Lookman stalemate has potential to drag on Despite Inter readying a €4 million annual salary for the player, Atalanta's refusal to budge over their €50 million valuation of the player may prove an obstacle in any deal. Cristian Chivu's Nerazzurri side are adamant that they believe €40 million is a fair valuation of the player but the Bergamo side will likely take some convincing.
