Customs Dept Seizes RM13 Mln Worth Of Drugs After Crippling Distribution Syndicate
Its assistant director-general (Enforcement), Raizam Setapa@Mustapha, said the operation was conducted in Batu Caves, Salak Selatan, Sentul and Subang Jaya and at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Cargo.
He said his team, detected the use of moving services was one of the new modus operandi used to smuggle drugs, when it inspected a mover company's warehouse in Batu Caves on April 10.
'The team seized 90 boxes of various sizes in the said warehouse, and found 344 compressed blocks of suspected heroin, weighing 122.85 kg and worth RM11.5 million, inside four boxes containing modified speakers to be sent to Australia, while the remaining 86 boxes contained household items," he told reporters at a press conference at the JKDM Narcotics branch in Kampung Jijan here today.
Raizam said that this case is the first time it detected a drug syndicate using mover services to send goods using containers to Port Klang.
In a separate case, Raizam said that on May 13 at about 9.45 pm, a team of officers along with detection dogs (K9) from the JKDM Narcotics branch inspected three boxes of goods at a logistics company's warehouse at the KLIA Cargo.
He said they found five transparent plastic bags containing white crystal powder suspected to be methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 5,105 grammes (gms) and valued at RM163,360, hidden among safety boots for export abroad.
Meanwhile, on April 3, a raid at a condominium in Salak Selatan uncovered 5,000 gms of MDMA (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) worth an estimated RM835,000. Following that, another raid at a condominium in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, found 6,176 gms of ketamine and 763 gms of cannabis, worth RM311,165.50.
According to him, the modus operandi involved using air courier services to import drugs into the country, and a local male suspect was arrested and charged in court.

A team from the Land Operations Unit and the headquarters' intelligence branch conducted the raid on July 29 at about 4 pm. They also arrested a man in his 50s believed to be the warehouse manager. 'The seizure was estimated at RM3.6 million while total duty and tax was RM8.28 million, making the total seizure worth RM11.88 million,' he said at a press conference. He clarified the legal status of the goods. Cigarettes are categorised as prohibited goods under the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order 2023. Their importation requires a specific permit. He detailed the syndicate's method of operation. Their modus operandi was to conceal contraband in premises storing licenced goods. The prohibited goods were then transported elsewhere for distribution. The investigation is being conducted under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. This section pertains to concealing uncustomed goods. If convicted, offenders face a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both penalties. - Bernama

Psychiatric examination for foreign student who ran amok with knife
KAJANG: The university student who was charged with eight counts of attempted murder and causing injury to seven victims has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation for one month. Sessions Court Judge Normastura Ayub and Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil made the ruling after allowing an application by Deputy Public Prosecutors Faelly Jeffrey Lanjungan and Siti Nur Alia Safri, who said the accused, Chinese national Liu Ting, 24, appeared confused and did not understand the charges read out. The court did not allow bail for the accused and ordered the woman to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Tanjung Rambutan in Perak for a psychiatric examination, in addition to setting case mention for Sept 19. Previously, Faelly did not offer bail because the charges against the accused were serious and non-bailable and also requested that the accused be sent to Hospital Bahagia for psychiatric evaluation. In the Sessions Court, Liu pled not guilty to three charges, namely intent to murder two men, aged 19 and 21, and causing injury to a 35-year-old woman, and if the accused had caused death, she would be guilty of murder. The charge is under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine. If the act causes injury to any person, the offender will be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted. She also pleaded not guilty to other two charges of causing grievous bodily harm to a 60-year-old woman by slashing her right arm with a knife and stabbing a 27-year-old man in the stomach. Both charges were filed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted. Meanwhile, in the Magistrate's Court, the accused was also charged with causing injury to two men, aged 21 and 49, as well as a woman aged 53. Liu understood the three charges read out by the interpreter but remained silent. All three charges are under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum imprisonment of 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two of those punishments, if convicted. The eight offences were allegedly committed at Jalan Besar, at the Semenyih Persimpangan Metropoint junction and at a premises in the Metropoint Complex here, between 11.39am and noon on Aug 13. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a woman exiting her vehicle holding a knife after she was involved in an accident. Palace warns of TikTok account mimicking Queen's voice
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Press Office has detected a TikTok account using artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic the voice of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia. According to a post on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Royal Press Office said the video featured a voice resembling Raja Zarith Sofiah, allegedly promising financial assistance. "The public is advised to remain cautious and not be easily influenced by such fake accounts, which are often used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on social media platforms. "The Royal Press Office wishes to stress that impersonation and misuse of identity are offences under the law," the post read.
