Indian Express12-05-2025
Given a rise in Google searches for 'today bank working day,' the operational status of banks across India on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, may be unclear for some.
Generally, according to the Reserve Bank of India, banks are closed on national and regional holidays, Sundays, as well as on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
Due to the observance of the Thai Poosam and the Municipal Corporation General Election 2025 in Raipur, Jharkhand, banking institutions in Chennai and Raipur will be closed today, Tuesday, February 11.
It's important to note that the banks in other states will operate as per their scheduled timings.
This closure is specific to these regions and is outlined in the Reserve Bank of India's calendar for 2025, as the designated bank holidays are based on various regulations, including the Negotiable Instruments Act and RTGS holidays.
Nonetheless, physical bank branches may be closed, but online banking services will remain operational, and customers can utilise net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services without interruption.

Big tension for India as economy shows signs of slowing down... what is the connection with US and China?

Big tension for India as economy shows signs of slowing down... what is the connection with US and China? According to a report by financial services firm Nuvama, the Indian economy is showing signs of slowdown. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken several steps to boost growth including interest rates and increased the availability of money in the market. But even after this, the pace of growth has slowed down in many sectors. What is the report saying? The report also said that most of the economic data, which were in double digits a year ago, have now come down to single digits. According to the report, India's high frequency data is now slowing down. Most of them have gone into single digits. This slowdown of the Indian economy is not untouched by the global economic scenario, especially its relations with the US and China. The trade war between the world's two largest economies and their own economic challenges affect India both directly and indirectly. Nuvama's report shows that the Indian economy is showing signs of slowdown. Despite the efforts of RBI, the pace of development has slowed down in many sectors. The pace of taking loans from banks has slowed down. It was earlier 16%, which has now come down to 9%. The pace of GST collection has also slowed down. It was earlier 11%, which has come down to 6.2% in June 2025. Exports have also decreased. Total exports (goods and services) have increased by only 6%. How bad is the situation? The 12-month average of many important indicators is continuously going down. This shows that the economy is weakening. People are buying fewer things. Passenger vehicle (PV) sales have declined. It was 7% last year, which has now come down to 2%. There has been a big decline in the real estate sector as well. Property sales in the top seven cities have come down from 28% to 4%. Salary growth in BSE500 companies has also halved. It was 12% earlier, which has now come down to 6%. Growth rate in eight major sectors is 3%. Whereas a year ago it was 8%. Diesel consumption is 1%. Medium and heavy commercial vehicle (MHCV) sales have declined by 3%. Exports of goods and services are growing only by 6%. Profit of BSE500 companies (excluding oil marketing companies) is now 10%. Whereas a year ago it was 21%. The report says that most high-frequency indicators have now returned to single-digit growth. This is similar to the pre-pandemic years of 2018-19. This means that economic activity is slowing down. While help from the government continues. In such a situation, more steps are needed to promote growth. What's connection with US and China? The ongoing trade war and tariff race between the US and China has increased instability in global trade. If there is a recession in the US and China, it will have a serious impact on the entire world and also on India. The reason is that China is India's largest trading partner and the US is the second largest. Affected by US tariffs, some companies may consider transferring their manufacturing units from China to India. This can benefit India as an alternative supply center. However, this process is slow and complex. It is also important to understand the impact of this economic slowdown on the global economy, especially India's trade relations with the US and China. China's economic slowdown affects the global supply chain. This can also affect some of India's sectors that depend on Chinese components, such as electronics, pharmaceuticals and automobiles.

‘Just one prompt': Perplexity CEO says his AI browser can replace two key roles every workplace depends on

San Francisco based AI startup Perplexity has been taking the competition to Google first with its generative AI backed search engine and now with a native AI browser called Comet. However, it's not just Google's lunch money that Perplexity is after, the company's CEO Aravind Srinivas in a recent interview with The Verge revealed that there are at least two white collar jobs that Perplexity's Comet browser should be able to take away soon. What are these two roles then? Well, it's the roles the roles that any workplace normally relies on, recruiters and administrative assistants. In the latest episode of The Verge's 'Decoder' podcast, Srinivas explained how Comet will eventually be able to replace the job of a recruiter after the introduction of a bettter reasoning model like a GPT-5 or Claude 4.5. 'A recruiter's work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs. And then you've got to do state tracking.' Srinivas said on the podcast. 'you want it to keep following up, keep a track of their responses. If some people respond, go and update the Google Sheets, mark the status as responded or in progress and follow up with those candidates, sync with my Google calendar, and then resolve conflicts and schedule a chat, and then push me a brief ahead of the meeting. Some of these things should be proactive. It doesn't even have to be a prompt.' he added Sinivas also notes that Perplexity has the ambition to make its Comet browser feel more like an operating system which runs processes like these in the background and implements commands based on natural language prompts. Comet browser is currently only available to Perplexity's paying customers but the company has also opened invites for free users who should get access to the AI powered product in due time. In a Reddit AMA session earlier in the week, Srinivas had confirmed that Comet browser will be available for even free users but some of the AI powered agentic tasks could be under a paywall. During the latest podcast Srinivas showed optimism in the possibility that users would want to pay for Comet in the long run because of the funtionality it offers. 'And at scale, if it helps you to make a few million bucks, does it not make sense to spend $2,000 for that prompt? It does, right? So I think we're going to be able to monetize in many more interesting ways than chatbots for the browser.' he added.

Need a Personal Loan? Check Latest Interest Rates by ICICI, Axis, Kotak and SBI

Last Updated: Because personal loans lack security or collateral, borrowers must pay higher interest rates. Personal loans are often a go-to option when you need urgent funds. Whether it's for a wedding, higher education, home renovation or emergency situations, many people often look for personal loans. One key reason is that you can get these loans without offering any collateral, such as property or gold. Since they are unsecured and don't require any security, the interest rates are generally higher. However, several banks have lowered their interest rates after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reduced the repo rate by 100 basis points, which means 1 percent. This change usually applies to home loans and car loans as they have floating interest rates. Personal loans usually have fixed interest rates, so the rate is decided at the time of taking a loan and it cannot be changed later. So, even though RBI has cut the rates, the interest rate usually remains the same if your personal loan is ongoing. Banks and their personal loan interest rates HDFC Bank: The interest rate ranges from 10.9 percent p.a. to 24 percent p.a. with a loan processing fee up to Rs 6,500 plus GST. ICICI Bank: The interest rate ranges between 10.8 percent and 16.5 percent with a loan processing fee up to 2 percent plus GST. Kotak Bank: The interest rate starts from 10.99 percent to 25 percent with a processing fee up to 5 percent. Axis Bank: The interest rate ranges from 9.99 percent to 22 percent with a processing fee up to 2 percent of the loan amount plus GST. SBI Bank: The interest rate ranges from 10.30 percent to 15.30 percent. Features of personal loans Personal loans provide many benefits, such as no need for collateral, speedy approval and disbursement, fixed interest rates and flexible repayment tenure. You can use personal loans for any purpose, such as debt consolidation or vacation funding. However, because personal loans lack security or collateral, borrowers must pay higher interest rates. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
