I've joined the epic retirement club thanks to my ex-Celtic player son who said ‘you don't have to work anymore'
A MUM of five has revealed how she was able to retire last year thanks to her big-hearted son - who is a former Celtic player. Veronica Morgan posted a heartfelt message onto The Epic Retirement Club page on Facebook, explaining how she was able to join the club thanks to her footie star son. Lewis, 28, has been earning the big bucks as a footballer since he sealed his dream move to Parkhead from St Mirren in 2018. Things didn't quite work out for the wide-man in Glasgow, though, as he only lasted two years at the Hoops before heading stateside. But it's fair to say he's been living the good life across the pond since 2020, having initially joined Inter Miami - before Lionel Messi made the switch to David Beckham's side. Now at New York Red Bulls, the six-cap Scotland star has managed to put enough of his earnings to one side to help his loved ones out. Veronica posted on social media: "I'm so grateful to my son who retired me last year. I'm 65 and now living my best life. My children have all moved away, we are from Scotland. "My eldest son and partner are in Lytham St. Anne in England, my eldest daughter and husband in Melbourne Australia, my middle daughter and husband in Manhattan New York City, my youngest son and partner in Hoboken New Jersey, and my youngest daughter is in London, so I'm travelling now in my retirement and loving every minute." Veronica had plans to retire for some time but she wasn't in a position financially to go through with it - until her son helped her out. She continued: "I had been wanting to retire my son just gave me the push I needed to do it. "He knew I was getting tired working and didn't want me to think I had to keep working when he had the means to say 'enough is enough mum you don't have to work anymore'. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up "I'd never not had a job since I was 14 even when I had the five kids all under 7 at one point I still worked. "My husband and me both juggled our jobs to make sure someone was always there for them and it was tough but you do what you have to do to give your kids a good life. "They are so thankful for that and I'm so proud of all of them they've all gone on to have amazing careers - his just happened to be the one that allowed me to retire and I'm so grateful to him every day." 21 brilliant retro photos of Scotland fans at the famous 2-2 draw with England in 2017 at Hampden
Can you believe it has been eight years since Leigh Griffiths bagged those two unforgettable free-kicks for Scotland against England in the sun in front of a sold-out Hampden? 'I've not seen a football celebration in a ground like this for a long, long, long time,' remarked a crestfallen Gary Neville on co-commentary, as the then-Celtic forward fired two unstoppable free-kicks beyond the outstretched arm of Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart in the dying embers of the World Cup qualifier in Glasgow. The home crowd exploded into scenes of wild celebration that have struggled to be matched since. Griffiths sprinted around the Hampden track as if he was a 200 metres runner and, for a moment, the southside of Glasgow was the place to be! It is one of the most iconic games in the history of the stadium. Okay, so Harry Kane's even later leveller spoiled it a little, but let's not labour on that ... Were you there that day? If so, here are 21 of the best retro photos of Scotland fans during the famous 2-2 draw with England in 2017. Can you spot yourself in our gallery? 1 . Celtic star Alistair Johnston aims cheeky dig at Kevin Bridges as he announces first American tour
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AFTER two-and-a-half years in Glasgow, Alistair Johnston is well-versed in Scottish slang and has had plenty of time to master the accent. But the Celtic right-back has warned comedian Kevin Bridges that he shouldn't expect the same from all North Americans. 2 Kevin Bridges is heading across the pond this year 2 Alistair Johnston won't be able to catch the comedian in his home city Credit: Kenny Ramsay Celtic-daft Bridges, 38, will head across the pond in September after announcing his first ever American tour on Saturday. Bridges will kick off the tour in Moncton, Canada on September 3 and will finish in Los Angeles on October 18. He's booked in for 20 shows across North America - 11 in Canada and nine in the USA. And the final night in Canada will take place in Johnston's home city, Vancouver, on September 21. The Canadian won't be able to attend the big night given the new football season will already be in full swing by then. Some of his friends and families could be, though, but Johnston admits many people will need subtitles to understand the legendary Scot's routine. Sharing a video on social media as he announced the big news, Bridges wrote on Instagram: "My first ever, EVER America and Canada tour on sale next week…Dates released on Monday." Johnston couldn't help himself as he replied: "🤣🤣 subtitles will be required." The Canadian, 26, wasted no time before trying to learn the Scottish lingo after he arrived in Glasgow in January 1. Just one month after joining he took to social media to reveal he was "taking Scottish lessons" - by watching Still Game. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up Earlier this year, he even revealed that he's tried Irn Bru - but it's not his drink of choice. He told Celtic TV: "I don't mind it. "I'm not going to say I'm a huge fan of it. "If I was to drink it, I'd have to say I need to drink it out of the can because I've seen a couple of people pour it into a glass and when you see the colour of it, it looks like something you'd put in your car."
