#SHOWBIZ: 'Blood Brothers: Bara Naga' gets novelised

KUALA LUMPUR: Skop Productions, in collaboration with WhiteCoat Group, has transformed its cinematic blockbuster, Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, into a novel.
Datuk Yusof Haslam, founder and head of the film production house, stated that this move wasn't new for him, recalling that his popular 1990s movie Sembilu was also novelised.
"Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, directed by my son Syafiq and his friend Abhilash Chandra, makes history by transitioning from a film to a novel," said Yusof at the novel's launch at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, last Sunday.
"Just like when Sembilu was screened, we turned it into a novel, and as far as I remember, about 30,000 copies of that novel were produced."
Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, which premiered on April 10, has earned RM62 million in 20 days, making it one of the country's top-selling films.
Yusof explained that novelising Blood Brothers was a good idea, as not everyone enjoys watching films.
He extended his gratitude to authors Dr. Anwar Fazal and Amshida Ahmad Rani for "doing a great job."
"Dr. Anwar is my nephew and he is also a songwriter for Syafiq's films," he added.
Syafiq expressed his hope that the novel would be well-received by readers, adding, "Congratulations Dr. Anwar, I hope this novel will be a great success."
Anwar and Amshida completed the novel in two weeks.

Mimi Lana Ready To Start A Family? Actress Asks Fans To Pray For Her To Have Twins

It's natural for fans to expect their favourite celebrities to start a family after marriage. However, it's more heartwarming when the stars themselves are more excited about having babies, like how actress Mimi Lana is. On 13th August 2025 (Wednesday), the Malaysian actress surprised fans when she posted on Threads, asking them to pray for her to be pregnant with twins. The post writes, 'Can I have everyone pray for me to have twin babies? People say that when many people pray for you, the prayer will be granted.' Needless to say, many of Mimi's fans began praying for the actress's wish to come true. Many also said they look forward to seeing Mimi start a family with husband, actor Syafiq Kyle, noting that their children would inherit their good looks. The 29-year-old then responded to the comments, thanking fans and netizens for the overwhelming support. She also expressed gratitude to those who shared tips to hopefully increase her chance of getting pregnant with twins. Some fans also quipped that the post may be a hint that the 'Mencari Ramlee' actress is currently pregnant. However, Mimi didn't confirm the speculation. Additionally, some of her replies on the Threads post seem to suggest that she's not yet expecting but is just planning for the future. While there has yet to be a Syafiq or Mimi Jr on the way, the star has mentioned that she's ready to become a mother. Mimi and Syafiq announced their engagement in 2023 after eight years together. However, they called off their initial wedding at the last minute. The pair then tied the knot earlier this year on Valentine's Day in a private ceremony, attended by family and close friends. In a May interview, Mimi said that she and Syafiq are ready to start a family, even quipping that her husband has thought about potential baby names. It appears that Mimi and Syafiq are excited to have children of their own. We wish the couple the best in building a family. May they be blessed with some good news soon. Source: Threads

Yusof Haslam's Skop Productions donates RM380,000 to Media Prima disaster fund

KUALA LUMPUR: Skop Productions Sdn Bhd has contributed RM380,000 to the NSTP-Media Prima Bhd (NSTP-MPB) Disaster Fund to assist victims, including those affected in Putra Heights. Skop Productions founder Datuk Yusof Haslam presented the donation to Media Prima Bhd (MPB) group chief financial officer Rosli Sabarudin. Yusof said the contribution was inspired by strong support for his company's films this year. "This donation is to help victims, whether their homes were destroyed by fire or affected by any other disaster. It also includes victims in Putra Heights and elsewhere," Yusof said. "Fortunately, Skop Productions' films have received good response this year, so I must play my role as a Muslim and as a caring Malaysian. This is a sincere contribution from me and Skop Productions," he added. He said that the company planned to continue collaborating with MPB's Primeworks Studios on several upcoming projects, including Blood Brothers 2 and Sheriff, which will begin filming next year. "This collaboration is a win-win situation because we cannot be greedy and do everything ourselves. In any industry, we must have cooperation and give-and-take to achieve success. That has always been our practice," he said. On his hopes for the donation, Yusof hoped it could help ease the burden of disaster victims and he would contribute yearly if it was sustainable. Rosli expressed his appreciation for Skop Productions' generosity. "As a trustee, I am grateful to Malaysians for their continuous support. This time, Skop Production has stepped forward with an amount of RM380,000, which will go to the NSTP-Media Prima Disaster Fund to aid victims in Putra Heights and other disaster-hit areas nationwide," he said.
