Castleton: New rules aim to stop Peak District parking pests
The plans were drawn up after residents and officials voiced concerns about increasing parking issues caused by rising visitor numbers.In January Derbyshire Police said they were forced to close multiple roads, including Winnats Pass and Rushup Edge near Castleton, due to "selfish parking".It followed reports of about 200 parked cars blocking gritting lorries and emergency services trying to respond to an injured walker near Edale.
Restrictions on the south side of Buxton Road will include a maximum stay of four hours between 09:00 to 17:00 in marked bays with no return allowed within one hour.An unnamed road towards the Blue John Cavern, Sparrowpit and a highway from Rushup Edge Farm turning head will have its double yellow lines replaced with red lines which means no stopping at anytime. Blue John Cavern has asked for some limited waiting bays to be created on the unnamed road close to its entrance so it is proposed to convert 10 of the unrestricted bays into limited waiting baysDouble yellow lines will be introduced on Pindale Road and Millbridge in the vicinity of Trickett Close and How Lane.The current single yellow line on the east side of Back Street will also be converted to a double yellow line.Pay and display parking bays on old Mam Tor Road are set to be extended from weekends and bank holidays to seven days a week between 09:00 to 17:00 with a maximum stay of four hours. The council said the new measure would ensure there was a turnover of parking spaces in these bays. New parking meters will also be installed.Further up old Mam Tor Road, there will be marked parking bays allowing vehicles to park with no restrictions.
Charlotte Hill, cabinet member for potholes, highways and transport at Derbyshire County Council, said: "Our road safety team has been working with Castleton Parish Council to try and identify ways to better manage parking in the village."Castleton is a beautiful place to visit, but the roads were never designed for the kinds of traffic volumes – and the size of vehicles – that we see today."For the past few years, there have been concerns about inconsiderate parking, and some motorists not understanding the restrictions that are currently in place."We hope that our proposals will help local people, make things clearer for visitors and reduce disruption to help make sure visitors enjoy the beauty of our county."Alongside our proposals to restrict parking, we will also look to enforce the restrictions robustly with our team of parking attendants, to ensure traffic can move safely and smoothly in the area, reducing congestion and unnecessary delays."

I travel frequently throughout the year and have seen prices skyrocket - but there are clever tricks right on your phone that have saved me hundreds on each trip. 5 5 5 And I'm talking about the big expenditures you can't avoid, like food and booze. All it takes is a little bit of planning before your holiday, and you could end up paying like a local, all thanks to your mobile. Here's how I pull it off and the simple steps so you can too. Sort your data BEFORE you travel I'd encourage anyone on holiday to keep off their phone and enjoy the moment, but that's easier said than done. From showing off your travel snaps on social media to using Google Maps to get around, chances are you'll want data. Where possible, you can rely on your hotel or restaurant Wi-Fi, but it won't always be available when you're out and about. Sadly, most mobile networks, except O2, don't offer free roaming as standard with your existing data plan. Your provider will have add-ons for travel, but these don't tend to be very affordable. Instead, you should try getting an eSIM. eSIMs are virtual SIMs - meaning you don't need a physical SIM card. Flight cancelled or delayed? Top tips for handling travel disruptions The beauty of eSIMs is that you can have more than one loaded onto a phone and working at the same time, so you don't need to lose your existing mobile network provider. Instead, the eSIM will essentially work as a secondary option in the background. My UK mobile network wanted £20 so I could roam for 15 days across Europe. But a quick Google search and I found an eSIM provider offering 5GB of data for £5.90. If you avoid going wild on things like streaming and use your phone for uploading some pictures, checking the news - The Sun of course! - and using maps and web searches, I reckon 5GB will cover you for a week or 10GB for two. I've used Maya Mobile and previously but there are loads of options out there, so shop around. LOYALTY CARDS We're all used to Tesco's Clubcard Prices and Nectar Prices offers at Sainsbury's by now. And you may have spotted similar at the local supermarket when you're out food shopping on holiday too. In some countries, the savings can be quite substantial, with loads of bonus coupons available digitally to save more. Fortunately, these days you don't need a physical loyalty card anymore, you can simply sign up from your phone and instantly scan the digital QR code they provide you. And that's exactly what I've done on a number of occasions when away. I quite like buying snacks, sandwiches and booze from supermarkets when away on holiday to keep the cost down instead of constantly eating at expensive restaurants - especially if I'm having a day at the beach. Using loyalty programmes has saved me hundreds. For the best results, it requires a little bit of planning, preferably before you go on holiday, though you could always do it from your hotel room. I tend to look around the area I'm staying in on Google Maps in advance to locate the shops nearby. So, on a recent trip to Paris, I noticed there was an Auchan supermarket nearby and their equivalent of Clubcard Prices is called "Waaoh!". I signed up online and was able to add the virtual loyalty card to my phone, so I get the cheapest prices just like a local. When signing up, I recommend doing it via the supermarket's website if possible, that way you can use the automatic translation tools in Google Chrome to easily understand everything. Also, it's worth noting that this trick may not be possible at every supermarket in every country, so it does require a little bit of digging, but it's well worth the 30 minutes of effort for the huge money savings. SIGN UP TO A DIGITAL BANK 5 Pesky foreign transaction fees on your card can also rack up costs on holiday, too. If your bank doesn't offer fee-free transactions from foreign countries, there are some digital banks that do. Both Monzo and Starling have zero fees, and they're easy to use without switching bank providers. I signed up for Starling a few years ago and it's worked wonders on many of my trips. I simply top it up with money every now and again while I'm on holiday. So before your embarking on your next holiday, give these three tricks a go to save a fair bit or even stretch your spending money budget further.

ABBA Voyage arena set to be demolished as developers unveil plans for housing estate
ABBA Voyage has been a huge success since its launch three years ago, but now the Swedish group's digital avatars are set to be kicked out of their East London arena. I can reveal plans have been drawn up to make way for a 1,000-home neighbourhood, which would mean the venue, constructed especially for the concert spectacle, will be demolished by the end of the decade to make way for apartment blocks. 2 2 The news is likely to devastate fans, as the group have said the concert — using state-of-the-art technology to show a younger version of the group on stage — is the closest anyone will come to seeing Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Bjorn Ulvaeus perform together again. It also scuppers hopes the Spice Girls could take over the arena, in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, after The Sun revealed the girl group have been planning to create their own similar digital residency. The concert is currently booking up until January 2026, although it is expected to continue for longer. The show's CEO and executive producer Michael Bolingbroke previously said: ' ABBA Voyage will certainly run for another couple of years and hopefully longer — in an ideal world we'd stay for ever.' Building work on the first two phases of a major new estate is scheduled to start next year just metres away from the arena. Real loss That will include construction on the site of the nearby hotel and bar Snoozebox, where revellers often congregate after the performances and which only has permission to stay until the end of 2025. The first homes on the site are scheduled to be completed in 2028, but earlier this year, ABBA's Bjorn said he believed the arena could remain until 2029. He explained: 'We are allowed to stay in our venue till 2029, but sales might drop, you never know.' The arena was originally built as a moveable venue, but the band later admitted they hoped the show would stay in the area. During its run, ABBA Voyage has attracted more than two million visitors and has contributed £1.4billion to the UK economy. A spokesperson for ABBA Voyage said: 'We are in constant dialogue with the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council about our lease and we welcome the opportunity to stay at the arena for as long as viable. 'At present, there are no plans for any changes to be made.' It would be a real loss for it to go, but it's certainly been a massive triumph.
