Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reiterated his commitment to leveraging technology to enhance public welfare during a review meeting with the Gates Foundation at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting assessed collaborative programmes in agriculture, education, healthcare, environment, infrastructure, RTGS, Swarnandhra Vision-2047, and governance capacity building.
Naidu emphasised that technology's true value lies in improving lives through accessible, efficient services. 'In today's digital age, technology accelerates service delivery, but it must reach every citizen, especially the underprivileged,' he said.
By August 15, 95–97 per cent of government services will be online, with initiatives like WhatsApp Governance already in place. He stressed the need to equip citizens to use these services effectively, leveraging the Gates Foundation's global expertise.
In healthcare, the Chief Minister highlighted rising costs and proposed technology-driven solutions like digitised health records, regular blood tests for early disease detection, and integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. He advocated promoting healthy lifestyles through exercise and yoga to prevent illnesses and early intervention for disabilities and nutritional deficiencies via the 'Care and Grow' model.
In education, Naidu called for affordable, quality learning through technological innovation to secure students' futures. For agriculture, he emphasized real-time data for soil testing and crop sales to empower farmers with informed choices and fair prices. The Chief minister noted Andhra Pradesh's fourth-place ranking in government employee capacity building, aiming to extend training to the public. He highlighted the state's MedTech Zone for advanced medical equipment and plans for an AI University in Amaravati, seeking Gates Foundation support to realise this vision.

Namaste Or Namaskaram... AP, Telangana turn welcoming

New Delhi: Amid ongoing Hindi imposition row in Maharashtra and southern states, the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have waded into the debate and sent out a message of inclusivity. Andhra Pradesh, under N Chandrababu Naidu's TDP, has struck an inclusive chord by assuring investors that it is offering a safe and investment-friendly environment. IT and electronics minister Nara Lokesh has given a call to the industry to "come, and build in Andhra Pradesh" irrespective of any language you speak. This comes close on the heels of Telangana government's 'Telangana Rising 2047' campaign poster which has a map of Hyderabad with 'welcome' written in at least 34 languages, including in Urdu, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, French, Hebrew, Spanish and Japanese. The poster reads, 'Hyderabad Welcomes Everyone'.

Constant infra upgrades at govt schools: CM

Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that state govt is constantly upgrading the infrastructure in govt schools in Goa and that govt institutes now have better facilities or are on par with those in other privately managed schools. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'Now, there is no shortage of teachers, even if some are appointed on a contract basis. Now there are 20 to 22 teachers teaching in a govt high school. Earlier, parents thought that a govt high school meant the facilities were lacking. Now this has changed, and govt high schools are in the number one position in the state,' said Sawant. The CM said that facilities like smart classrooms and labs are also being provided in govt schools in Goa. 'Giving good infrastructure to govt high schools is govt's duty, and we are providing it, whether it is a building, smart classroom, or lab. From time to time, we are giving such infrastructure one by one to all govt schools,' he said after inaugurating a STEM Lab at Govt Higher Secondary School, Sanquelim, along with water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar. The lab was provided under ONGC's CSR initiative. Sawant said that even children in the govt primary schools in Sanquelim and Shiroda constituencies are provided exposure to STEM education. 'This hands-on learning hub in science, robotics, and tech supports NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat @2047. This is a step toward nurturing innovation and digital skills, which is one of six such labs across Goa. Children need exposure to STEM labs. In fact, if they are exposed to innovation and tech-related subjects now, they will develop an interest in entering innovation-related sectors in the future. Even primary students of Class IV are learning how the heart functions, how wind energy and solar energy operate. If you see this, then Goa's and India's future is bright,' said Sawant.

Bill Gates' wealth to reduce further; Microsoft co-founder and 4 others pledge $1 billion for this AI project

The charitable foundations of Bill Gates and four other billionaires have pledged over $1 billion to fund NextLadder Ventures . This is a new philanthropic initiative that is focused on improving economic mobility through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This commitment is set to further impact the net worth of the Microsoft co-founder, who recently lost his spot in the top 10 rankings of the Bloomberg Billionaire Index . Apart from Gates ($116.9 billion net worth), the billionaires that are involved in this initiative include Koch Industries founder Charles Koch ($67.5 billion), Microsoft's former CEO Steve Ballmer ($142.5 billion), Intuit founder Scott Cook ($7.7 billion), and hedge fund investor John Overdeck ($7.4 billion). NextLadder Ventures will partner with Google and Amazon-backed AI startup Anthropic and support organisations using AI and other emerging technologies to enhance the financial prospects of low-income Americans. Three of these philanthropists, Gates (No. 2), Ballmer (No. 8), and Koch (No. 25), are already ranked among America's top 25 philanthropists by Forbes. Gates, along with his former wife, Melinda French Gates, has previously contributed an estimated $47.7 billion, primarily through the Gates Foundation, for health and poverty alleviation efforts. In 2024, the Gates Foundation reportedly made nearly $200 million in grants through its US Economic Mobility & Opportunity and Women's Economic Empowerment programs. Bill Gates is out of the top 10 richest list This announcement comes after Gates fell out of the top ten on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index after a recent recalculation that accounts for his significant charitable donations. His estimated net worth dropped by about $52 billion, which is roughly 30%, bringing it down from over $175 billion to $123 billion. As a result, Gates slipped from fifth to twelfth place. His former assistant and Microsoft CEO successor, Steve Ballmer, has now overtaken him with a net worth of $172 billion, claiming the fifth spot. Gates is currently behind several other tech leaders, including Alphabet co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and his longtime friend Warren Buffett. Bloomberg noted that the update adjusts asset appreciation assumptions to better reflect Gates' philanthropic contributions and aligns with the wealth figure he shared in a blog post this May.
