Commenting on the incident involving actress and former Congress MP Ramya, receiving vulgar messages from supporters of Darshan after her remarks on the fan murder case involving the Kannada actor, Karnataka Home Minister G.
Parameshwara stated that such incidents "must be brought to a halt."
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Home Minister Parameshwara said, "We have to take this development very seriously. Such incidents should not be repeated in the future. Today it has happened to actress Ramya; tomorrow, someone else might become a victim. We need to put a full stop to this. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner will take appropriate action."
"I have not issued any specific instructions. The police will take necessary action on their own. We have also taken note of the letter from the State Women's Commission regarding this matter. Their letter will be responded to. I will also instruct the concerned authorities to ensure that such incidents do not occur again," Parameshwara added.
Ramya filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Monday evening against actor Darshan's fans for sending obscene and defamatory messages following her post on the fan murder case.

Darshan is the second accused in the case, and the Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on an appeal challenging the grant of bail to him.
Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Ramya said, "I shared news about the Supreme Court's development regarding actor Darshan's bail petition to give hope to common people about justice. After that, the trolling began. I have filed this complaint as a voice for women."
"I have lodged a complaint against 43 social media accounts. Some of them even threatened me with rape. If this can happen to me, what about others? Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has assured me of action and has transferred the case to the Cyber Crime Wing. Women have the same freedom as men. Actor Darshan should have asked his fans not to post such messages," she added.
"I don't have any personal connection with actor Darshan.
I had met him once at a wedding before the fan murder case. If he had warned his fans earlier, the deceased fan Renukaswamy might not have been killed. He was Darshan's fan and likely wouldn't have sent messages to Pavithra Gowda," Ramya said. Pavithra Gowda, Darshan's girlfriend, is the prime accused in the murder case.
In her complaint Ramya stated, "The disgruntled fans of actor Darshan (upset) by my act of sharing the news reporting the Supreme Court's proceedings, have sent scandalous, ghastly and obnoxious messages to my Instagram handle through various accounts.
The messages sent to me are so disgusting and misogynistic that I am unable to even reproduce the same in the complaint."
Ramya is also a film producer and has acted in more than 40 movies in different languages in the lead role. She has acted as a heroine opposite superstars like Dhanush, Surya, late Puneeth Rajkumar and others.
Meanwhile, the organisation, Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), submitted a letter to Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday demanding immediate action against vulgar and misogynistic social media abuse targeting Ramya.
Reacting to the vulgar messages and videos posted by actor Darshan's fans against the Kannada actress, the Karnataka State Women's Commission on Monday urged Bengaluru Police Commissioner Singh to take action in the matter.

‘Let us close this': SC on 2018 defamation case against Tharoor

The Supreme Court on Friday favoured closing a criminal defamation case against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over his 2018 'scorpion sitting on a Shivling' remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it advised the complainant not to be 'touchy' about such comments. During the Bangalore Literature Festival on October 28, 2018,Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had allegedly compared PM Modi to a scorpion, following which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Babbar filed a complaint against the Thiruvananthapuram MP in 2019 (PTI) 'Why do you want to be so touchy about this. Let us close this,' a bench of justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh said, as it posted the matter for hearing on September 15. The court added: 'That way, administrators, political personalities and judges are in the same group. They are sufficiently thick-skinned.' During the Bangalore Literature Festival on October 28, 2018,Tharoor had allegedly compared Modi to a scorpion, following which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Babbar filed a complaint against the Thiruvananthapuram MP in claimed that the remark not only targeted the Prime Minister but also amounted to vilification of the faith of millions of devotees of Lord Shiva. He further accused Tharoor of hurting religious sentiments and disparaging the Prime Minister. Tharoor has, however, maintained that the remark was borrowed from an article published in 2012, when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat. In his petition, Tharoor contended that Babbar's complaint was not legally maintainable as he is not an 'aggrieved person' under the law, especially since the person directly referred to in the statement had not taken any legal action. He also relied on the exception under the law on defamation that exempts any comment made in good faith. Tharoor was stated to have merely made a reference to an article published in the Caravan magazine six years prior to making the statement. Despite these arguments, however, the Delhi high court on August 29, 2024 refused to quash the defamation proceedings against him, asking him to appear before the trial court on September 10. The high court had said, prima facie, imputations like 'scorpion on Shivling' against the prime minister were 'despicable and deplorable'. The high court also said there was sufficient material before the judicial magistrate for summoning Tharoor under Section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC. Tharoor challenged the order in the top court in September 2024. In the same month, the apex court stayed the trial in the criminal defamation proceedings and had sought a response from Babbar and the Delhi government. However, the hearing could not proceed as Tharoor's counsel sought an adjournment. The court further extended the stay on the trial till the next date.

Trump tells US Federal Reserve board to take full control of central bank from Fed chair Powell

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Friday called for the Federal Reserve's board of governors to usurp the power of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, criticizing the head of the US central bank for not cutting short-term interest rates. Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump called Powell 'stubborn." The Fed chair has been subjected to vicious verbal attacks by the Republican president over several months. The Fed has the responsibility of stabilizing prices and maximizing employment. Powell has held its benchmark rate for overnight loans constant this year, saying that Fed officials needed to see what impact Trump's massive tariffs had on inflation. If Powell doesn't 'substantially' lower rates, Trump posted, 'THE BOARD SHOULD ASSUME CONTROL, AND DO WHAT EVERYONE KNOWS HAS TO BE DONE!' Two of the seven Fed governors, Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, issued statements Friday saying they see the tariffs as having a one-time impact on prices and the job market as most likely softening. As a result, the two dissented at the Fed meeting on Wednesday and pushed for slight rate cuts relative to what Trump was seeking. Even though Trump, who nominated Waller and Bowman, has claimed the US economy is booming, he welcomed their arguments and what he called their strong dissents. After the Fed announced later Friday that governor Adriana Kugler will step down next week, Trump said Powell should follow her lead and leave, too. 'She knew he was doing the wrong thing on Interest Rates. He should resign, also!' Trump said on social media. Friday's jobs report showed a rapidly decelerating economy, as just 73,000 jobs were added in July and downward revisions brought down the June and May totals to 14,000 and 19,000, respectively. Trump sees the rate cuts as leading to stronger growth and lower debt servicing costs for the federal government and homebuyers. The president argues there is virtually no inflation, even though the Fed's preferred measure is running at an annual rate of 2.6%, slightly higher than the Fed's 2% target. Trump has called for slashing the Fed's benchmark rate by 3 percentage points, bringing it down dramatically from its current average of 4.33%. The risk is that a rate cut that large could cause more money to come into the economy than can be absorbed, possibly causing inflation to accelerate. The Supreme Court suggested in a May ruling that Trump could not remove Powell for policy disagreements. This led the White House to investigate whether the Fed chair could be fired for cause because of the cost overruns in the Fed's $2.5 billion renovation projects. Powell's term as chair ends in May 2026, at which point Trump can put his Senate-confirmed pick in the seat.

'Simply making false claims': BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra slams Rahul Gandhi over ECI vote theft claim

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manan Kumar Mishra on Friday hit out at Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi , over his statement accusing the Election Commission of India (ECI) of vote theft , stating that if the Congress MP have such evidence, then he must submit it to the Supreme Court . Mishra further slammed Rahul Gandhi, stating that he is making false claims without any proof. "If he truly has any evidence, he should present the proof in the Supreme Court of India and the Election Commission. He should also present it to the public. As it stands, he is simply making false claims; he has no proof," Mishra told ANI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Earlier in the day, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, criticised the ECI, accusing the poll body of being complicit in "vote theft" to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gandhi claimed his party has "open-and-shut proof" of the alleged electoral malpractice , which he likened to an "atom bomb" that will expose the ECI's involvement when revealed. Live Events Talking to reporters on the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the Congress said, "Votes are being stolen. We have open-and-shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in this vote theft. And I'm not saying this lightly, I'm speaking with 100% proof. And when we release it (proof), the entire country will come to know that the Election Commission is enabling vote theft. And who are they doing it for? They're doing it for the BJP." Gandhi said that the findings of an investigation by the Congress amount to nothing short of an "atom bomb," with implications severe enough to shake the very foundations of the ECI. "We had suspicion of voter theft, and we got into its granularity. Since the Election Commision was not helpful in the investigation, we did our own. It took six months, and the things we found are an 'Atom Bomb' and when this atom bomb explodes, you won't see the Election Commission in the country," he added. Gandhi warned that the findings are explosive and will have severe implications for the ECI, and warned ECI officials involved in the alleged malpractice that they will face consequences, even if they are retired. He described their actions as "no less than treason". "Most importantly, whoever in the Elections Commission is involved in this exercise, right from top to bottom, we will not spare you. You are working against India, and this is no less than treason. Wherever you are, even if you are retired, we will find you," said the Lok Sabha LoP. In response to the allegation, the Election Commission of India rejected the opposition claims of vote theft ahead of the Bihar elections , calling them baseless and irresponsible. The EC said its officials should continue working fairly and transparently, without being affected by daily threats or false statements. As per the statement from ECI, "Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made on a daily basis and despite threats being given daily, asks all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements while working impartially and transparently."The Election Commission of India has also responded to Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, saying he ignored official messages sent on June 12 and never raised any concerns through proper channels. Terming his recent accusations and threats as "wild" and "deplorable. "As per the statement of ECI, "1. ECI sends a mail to him on 12 June 2025. He does not come. 2. ECI sends him a letter on 12 June 2025, but he does not respond. 3. He has never sent any letter to ECI on any issue, whatsoever 4. It is very strange that he is making wild allegations and has now even started threatening EC and its staff. Deplorable ! 5. ECI ignores all such irresponsible statements and asks all its staff to continue working impartially and transparently."
