Censor Board Denies Certification To Film Based On Yogi Adityanath's Life; Makers Move HC
The makers of Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi have moved the Bombay High Court, challenging the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision to deny it certification. Advocates Aseem Naphade, Satatya Anand and Nikhil Aradhe, representing filmmakers Samrat Cinematics, argued that the CBFC rejected the applications for certification of the film, trailer and its songs without even watching the movie.
While the plea will be heard on Friday, August 1, by a bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Neela Gokhale, the court has also asked the CBFC the reason for rejecting the certification when the novel, which inspired the film, has been in the public domain for eight years.
'If no objection was taken to the book, how could a film inspired by it disturb public order?" the court asked, while issuing a notice to the CBFC and seeking its reply.
The film Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi is inspired by the book The Monk Who Became Chief Minister, supposedly based on Adityanath's life. The film stars Anant Joshi in the lead. In June this year, the makers offered a fresh glimpse into the upcoming biographical drama and shared a striking poster on social media. 'Jag chhoda, Bhagwa Odha, Seva mein ramm gaya. Ek Yogi — jo akela hi poora aandolan ban gaya! Yogi Ji Ke Janmotsav par prastut hai us kahaani ka aarambh. #AjeyTheUntoldStoryOfAYogi – 1st August se cinema gharoṅ mein," they wrote.
Later, Anant Joshi also opened up about going bald for the movie when he told IANS, 'Losing it wasn't just a cosmetic change — it was letting go of a part of myself." He shared that shaving his head was more than just a physical change, it was his way of truly stepping into the shoes of CM Yogi and embracing the character's spirit. 'But this role demanded that sacrifice. I knew I couldn't fake it. I had to live it. I had to become Yogi, not just act like him," he added.

I still haven't watched Saiyaara," he revealed. Commenting on the viral videos, Badola didn't hold back: 'By the third or fourth day, the film was being talked about. I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking bangles and beating their chests). I think the promotions team went a little overboard… putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content. Thank god, people didn't get their legs broken and go crawling to see the film." Despite his candid remarks, Badola acknowledged the film's real impact. 'It's okay. We understand promoting the film, but it's good only up to a certain level. However, the film cannot earn so much money just based on Instagram promotions. People have gone and seen the film, and they have loved it," he concluded.
