Edina golf's Ohe brothers growing together on the green

CBS News02-06-2025
Pick a tee, and start swinging. That's most days for Torger and Sander Ohe.
"You know as he was getting better, he was getting taller, I was pretty small," said Sander Ohe, a junior at Edina High School. "And then to be able to catch up ... still a little bit behind. But yeah, it's been really fun."
The brothers have grown up together on the course. When Torger Ohe won state last year as a junior, his brother, a year younger, was there to celebrate.
"Probably not quite as emotional for me as my parents, but I was pretty excited," remembered Sander Ohe. "Pretty nervous. But it was a lot of fun."

Torger Ohe recently committed to play college golf at the University of Minnesota. He also made it through the first round of qualifying for this year's U.S. Open. The senior has established himself as one of the best prep players in the state.
"COVID really helped me out. Gave me a lot of time to practice golf and get better at it," said Torger Ohe. "I think that's when I started to realize I could maybe play in college. That was one of my goals."
Sander Ohe is high up in the rankings, too. The duo have similar games and an expected dialogue.
"In the past, I think Torger's been quite a bit past me off the tee, with driver and all that. But I'm catching up a little bit," laughed Sander Ohe. "He (Torger) likes to think not."
When it comes down to it, there's room to give on both sides. A special relationship, developed one shot at a time.
"He does have a little bit better short game than me. So gotta work on that a little bit," said Torger Ohe. "But it's just real fun to compete with him. He's like my best friend. So it's just fun to spend a lot of time with him."

Bubba Wallace wins Brickyard 400 to become Indy's first Black winner

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bubba Wallace became the first Black driver to win on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile oval, surviving a late rain delay, two overtimes, concerns over running out of fuel and a hard-charging Kyle Larson on Sunday in the Brickyard 400. The third NASCAR Cup victory of Wallace's career was also his biggest. It snapped a 100-race winless streak that dated to 2022 at Kansas. He also won at Talladega in 2021. It's his first win at one of NASCAR's four crown jewel races. 'Unbelievable,' Wallace shouted on his radio after crossing the yard of bricks. And while the final gap was 0.222 seconds, he didn't reach victory lane without some consternation. Larson trailed by 5.057 seconds with 14 laps to go but the gap was down to about three seconds with six remaining when the yellow flag came out because of rain. The cars rolled to a stop on pit lane with four to go, giving Wallace about 20 additional minutes to think and rethink his restart strategy. But after beating Larson through the second turn, a crash behind the leaders forced a second overtime, extending the race even more laps as Wallace's team thought he might run out of gas. Wallace risked everything by staying on the track then beat the defending race winner off the restart again to prevent Larson from becoming the fourth back-to-back winner of the Brickyard. It also alleviated the frustration Wallace felt Saturday when he spent most of the qualifying session on the provisional pole only to see Chase Briscoe surpass with one of the last runs in the session. He made sure there was no repeat Sunday, giving an added boost to the 23XI Racing co-owned by basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and last week's race winner, Denny Hamlin, as it continues to battle NASCAR in court over its charter status. ___ AP auto racing:

MLS: Lionel Messi's future at Inter Miami in doubt!

Lionel Messi Lionel Messi's future with Inter Miami in MLS is in question. The Argentine World Cup champion could be on his way out. Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba are furious with MLS and a rule they simply can't understand. Their frustration peaked after being suspended for skipping the All-Star Game—a showcase pitting the top players from the North American league against their Mexican league counterparts. They claimed they needed rest to avoid playing another match, a decision fully supported by their club and head coach Javier Mascherano. This decision has gone down terribly with MLS officials, who are both angry and embarrassed. They're frustrated because this marquee event has been planned for a long time, and Lionel Messi is well aware of its significance. MLS commissioner Don Garber weighed in on the situation. "I know Lionel Messi loves this league. I don't think there's a player who has done more for MLS than he has. I fully understand, respect, and admire his commitment to Inter Miami, and I respect his decision." he stated. Meanwhile, Jorge Mas, the majority owner of Inter Miami, also reacted, casting doubt over the Argentine star's future. "Messi is very upset—extremely upset today, as expected. I hope this won't have long-term consequences. Could this affect how players perceive the way the league operates? Absolutely." he said.
