Eluned Morgan to ask Keir Starmer to 'start coughing up' to make up for Wales shortchanges
Baroness Morgan is in London ahead of a meeting of the Council of the Nations and Regions being hosted by Sir Keir.
It will be the first time she has formally met her fellow Labour leader since setting out a list of concerns in her 'Red Welsh Way' speech earlier this month.
In that speech, she said she would 'call out' what she thought were mistakes by the Labour UK Government, saying: 'When Westminster makes decisions that we think will harm the Welsh communities, we will not stay silent."
She had also called for her UK colleagues to reconsider cuts to winter fuel payments for pensioners. On Wednesday this week, the PM announced a U-turn which will see more pensioners become eligible for the payment.
The FM's speech came on the same day as the latest Barn Cymru poll for ITV Cymru Wales which suggested that Labour could fall to third place at next year's Senedd election.
The poll showed Labour gaining 18% share of the vote, with Plaid Cymru coming first and winning 30% while Reform UK would come second with 25%.
All that will be in the background when Eluned Morgan and Keir Starmer meet on Friday, 23 May.
In an interview ahead of that meeting, she told ITV: 'I'll obviously be taking that opportunity to really push the case for those things that I outlined in my Red Welsh Way speech, making sure that we get a fairer deal on things like the railways and coal tips and other issues that are absolutely top of my agenda, where we think we've been hard done by in the past and we want them to make up for it."
When asked if that would make the meeting a difficult one, she said: 'Let's see how it goes. But the spending review is coming up.
"That's the opportunity for them to make a difference. I'll be pushing that case. I know lots of people pushing the case at the moment, but my job is to stand up for Wales and that's what I'm doing.'
She repeated her claim that Wales has been shortchanged under 14 years of Conservative-led UK Government but added that now it falls to her party in power to change things.
'They've had a bit of time to bed in now, so we want some action and that's what I'll be pushing for. They've had a year, more or less. Now's the time for them to start coughing up for us.'
The FM met Welsh Labour MPs at a dinner in Soho on Wednesday, with some signs of tension between them.
We understand that some MPs had been upset by her Red Welsh Way speech and wanted to reassure her that they were doing their part.
The meeting was described as a "bit fraught", although another source insisted that though differences were aired, the night ended with hugs and kisses.
Eluned Morgan insisted that it was a happy get-together, saying: 'I spoke to lots last night and they understand and they reassured me that they're making the case as well.'
But with a year to go to a difficult election, is now the time to ruffle feathers?
'Look, we were fine last night," she said. "I spoke to lots of MPs last night. They understand that we're under pressure. They understand that there is a need for the UK Labour government to deliver for Wales as well.'

Labour minister says small boat Channel crossings 'unacceptable' as milestone passed
In Home figures described as "unacceptable" by Labour former home secretary Baroness Smith, it also emerged 474 migrants arrived by small boat on Monday alone More than 50,000 migrants have arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel since Labour won the 2024 general election. In Home figures described as "unacceptable" by Labour former home secretary Baroness Smith, it also emerged 474 migrants arrived by small boat on Monday alone. Earlier this month, the Government began detaining migrants under a new "one in, one out" deal with France. UK officials aim to make referrals for returns to France within three days of a migrant's arrival by small boat, while French authorities will respond within 14 days. An approved asylum seeker in France will be brought to the UK under a safe route as part of the exchange. It comes after The Mirror's Kevin Maguire wrote: 'Labour must find engaging story for the UK - or face election wipeout'. Baroness Smith, who is now an education and women and equalities minister, told BBC Breakfast: "Criminal gangs have got an absolute foothold in the tragic trafficking of people across the Channel. It is an unacceptable number of people." Earlier this month, the Government began detaining migrants under a new "one in, one out" deal with France. Plane thug who threatened to ‘gang rape' hostess may get longer in jail after MPs wife handed DOUBLE for Southport tweet
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A PLANE thug who threatened to "gang rape" a hostess may get longer in jail after an MPs wife was handed double the term for a migrant tweet. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has referred Salman Iftihar's 15-month sentence to the Attorney General for being "unduly lenient". Mr Philp told the Mail: "Iftikar was sentenced to only 15 months in prison last week for threatening an air stewardess with gang rape and for racially aggravated harassment. Iftikhar has multiple previous convictions. "Yet Lucy Connolly got 31 months for a far less serious offence - a prosecution Lord Hermer personally authorised. "This is two-tier justice in action. "I have today referred the case to the Attorney General Lord Hermer for review under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. "We'll now find out if Hermer is willing to take action to fix Britain's two-tier justice problem." Shocking footage showed Iftikhar, 37, tell Virgin Atlantic crew member Angie Walsh she would be attacked in her hotel after landing. The tycoon launched into the foul-mouthed rant after downing champagne on an eight-hour flight from London Heathrow to Lahore, Pakistan. Iftikhar said Ms Walsh would be taken from her hotel room, gang raped and set on fire. He also threatened to blow-up the five-star hotel where the cabin crew were set to stay. Isleworth Crown Court heard Iftikhar has six previous convictions, including for common assault, in what the judge described as a "lengthy and appalling" rap sheet. Despite her comments, she only jailed the thug for 15 months after he admitted making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment. In contrast, Connolly was locked up for 31 months after admitting publishing threatening or abusive material intending to stir up racial hatred. The childminder had shared a social media post just hours after three girls were knifed to death in Southport last summer. She wrote: "Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care... "If that makes me racist, so be it." Connolly launched a bid against her "harsh" sentence but this was thrown out by Court of Appeal judges. Her husband Raymond Connolly, who is Conservative vice chair of the committee on adult social care at West Northamptonshire Council, said she had been shown "no mercy". In a letter to the Attorney General, Mr Philip pointed out Iftikhar made "over 100 sickening threats" to cabin crew as opposed to Connolly's one post. The Attorney General's Office will now decide if the sentence was unduly lenient and if so, refer it to the Court of Appeal. Dad-of-three Iftikhar, who was later revealed as a debt-ridden tycoon with two wives, could then see his jail term increased. 6 Iftikhar threatened to gang rape the cabin crew worker Credit: Central News 6 The millionaire, seen with one of his wives Abeer Rizvi, pleaded guilty Credit: Instagram

Mynydd Isa FC seeks permission for new 50-seater stand
After securing promotion to the Lock Stock Ardal North West League – the third tier of Welsh football – the club was required to apply for a tier three license from the Football Association of Wales. It was successful in its application, on the condition that it met the licensing requirement for providing covered fan seating by December. 'We are delighted to have been awarded a FAW Men's Tier 3 Licence for the 2025/26 season,' said the club in a statement. 'Thank you to our volunteers for their hard work behind the scenes.' It plans to install the 50-seat stand – which will also have space for fans who use wheelchairs to take shelter – to the right-hand corner of the ground as you look out from the dugout. The seating will sit inside a 40ft shipping container modified by Ruthin-based I.T Williams and Co, who specialise in small capacity sports stands – with the base provided by SCR Landscaping Services. Argoed Sports Association will contribute 10% of the cost, with the remaining 90% coming from the FAW and Cymru Football Foundation's Welsh Ground Improvements Fund. The FAW said: 'The club licensing system aims to assist the continual improvement and development of football clubs within Wales. 'Licensing is a transparent process that enables clubs to demonstrate to their stakeholders that they meet quality standards.'
