Chinese YouTuber builds a metro station for his cats

There are many social media influencers who use their pets for content. Then there is Chinese YouTuber Xing Zhilei, who has made a lot more than content for his cats. After building a supermarket, a theatre, a spa and a garage in feline proportions, he constructed an underground train station in a similar size over four months, upon the request of his followers. His highly realistic creation – complete with a moving train, a functioning escalator and platform doors that open at the same time as the train doors – was showcased in a two-minute video uploaded on Aug 17 to his channel Xing's World. Mr Xing can fit inside the train but only if he lies down nearly flat. His cats are seen boarding and alighting from the train, as boarding announcements for its paw-ssengers are broadcast. The video racked up over 105,000 views in about two days, with many viewers left amazed at Mr Xing's Cat Town subway station's resemblance to a real train station. Top stories Swipe. Select. A viewer wrote that the cats in China are 'getting better public transit than the humans in America', while another one commented that Mr Xing's cats have 'won the lottery' in life. Others praised Mr Xing for his artistry and craftsmanship. 'This is spectacularly well done! Your attention to detail is incredible. I really appreciate all the little touches like using different paint textures and adding illuminated signs. That really makes it look like the full-scale subway. It could be a movie set!' said a commenter with the handle Ghotio.

Actor Masaharu Fukuyama ‘regrets' sexual remarks to female Fuji TV employees

Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox TOKYO - Renowned Japanese singer-actor Masaharu Fukuyama has acknowledged making sexual remarks to female employees of Fuji TV at events that a third-party panel on misconduct at the broadcaster had deemed inappropriate, according to a report in a weekly magazine published on Aug 18. Fukuyama, who holds the sales record for singles and albums as a solo male artiste over his 35-year career and is also popular in other Asian countries, said he 'deeply regrets' the conduct in an interview with Josei Seven magazine. The revelations come at a time when Japan's entertainment industry has come under scrutiny over a series of sexual misconduct cases, including at Fuji TV, a major commercial broadcaster. Fukuyama, 56, said on his official website that he gave the interview 'so that there won't be misunderstandings' regarding his remarks to female staff at events arranged by a former top official of Fuji TV, a subsidiary of Fuji Media Holdings. The events were detailed in a report the panel compiled in March in response to a scandal involving popular former TV host Masahiro Nakai's alleged sexual assault of a female former employee of Fuji TV. The report said the functions were arranged by former managing director Toru Ota once or twice a year since around 2005 and involved a 'major male TV programme participant'. In the magazine interview, Fukuyama, who acknowledged he was the participant, said: 'I hope my apologies will reach those who were offended.' Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. One of the women described exchanges with Fukuyama as unpleasant and involving lewd comments. The panel hoped to hold an in-person hearing but was only provided a written response to queries, with Fukuyama citing a busy schedule. In the written responses, Fukuyama had said he 'never' made sexual comments to the women. A Fuji TV official said on Aug 18 that the broadcaster has 'not confirmed a report of harassment by Mr Fukuyama'. The panel's report found a female Fuji TV employee was subjected to sexual violence by Nakai, 53, in June 2023 'as an extension of her job'. Nakai, who rose to prominence as a member of the now-defunct J-pop group Smap, retired from show business after the allegations came to light. The latest development comes before the September release of Black Showman, a film starring Fukuyama as the lead character, with Fuji TV among its producers. Fukuyama debuted as a singer-songwriter in 1990 and his best-known songs include Sakura Zaka (2000). He has regularly appeared in a popular New Year's Eve music show aired by public broadcaster NHK, often serving as its headliner. Fukuyama also became famous across Asia after starring in Japanese TV series such as Under The Same Roof (1993 to 1997) and Galileo (2007 to 2013). He also starred in Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda's film Like Father, Like Son (2013), which received the Jury Prize at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival. KYODO NEWS

Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy paired again at Tour Championship

LOS ANGELES – The top two players in the world will play at least one more round together this PGA Tour season, as Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will make up the final pair of the first round of the Tour Championship. Scheffler and McIlroy finished 1-2 in the FedExCup standings following Scheffler's victory at the BMW Championship on Sunday. The Texan and Northern Irishman also played together on Thursday and Friday at the BMW. The Tour Championship had used a staggered start based on 'starting strokes' since 2019, in which No. 1 in the season-long standings would begin the tournament at 10 under par, No. 2 would be 8 under and so on. But that was eliminated this year – all 30 players in the field will begin at even par, and the top player after 72 holes will win both the tournament and the FedExCup. Despite that change, the PGA Tour opted to pair golfers up for the first round based on the points standings. Scheffler and McIlroy will tee off at 2pm ET on Thursday at East Lake Golf Club, with Scheffler vying to win back-to-back FedExCups and McIlroy aiming for the fourth of his career. Just before them are another duo that have seen plenty of one another this summer. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Spaun and Englishman Justin Rose are 3-4 in the points standings and will tee off together at 1.49pm. Spaun and Rose went to a playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago, with Rose winning on the third hole. Then they were paired together to start the BMW. Other notable pairings are No. 5 Tommy Fleetwood of England and No. 6 Ben Griffin; Harris English and Justin Thomas; Cameron Young and Sweden's Ludvig Aberg; Collin Morikawa and Norway's Viktor Hovland; and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan and Irishman Shane Lowry. In other golf news, Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and England's Tyrrell Hatton clinched spots on Team Europe's Ryder Cup squad with their weekend performances. MacIntyre jumped from fourth to second on the European Ryder Cup points list – trailing only McIlroy – after claiming second place behind Scheffler at the BMW Championship. Hatton maintained his fifth-place position after sharing 32nd at LIV's event in Indianapolis. McIlroy, MacIntyre, Hatton, England's Fleetwood and his compatriot Justin Rose are assured of playing for Team Europe captain Luke Donald when the squad defends its Ryder Cup title on Sept 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. Donald's squad has one more automatic spot available, which is down to either Ireland's Shane Lowry or Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard. Hojgaard plays this week at the British Masters in his final chance to earn Ryder Cup points. If he ties for 29th or better, he will move past Lowry for the final automatic qualification spot. Lowry does not have any points opportunities remaining. Team USA already has all six of its automatic qualifiers lined up. Scheffler, Spaun and Xander Schauffele already owned spots before last weekend's play. Russell Henley, English and Bryson DeChambeau clinched their places on Sunday. Donald and Team USA captain Keegan Bradley each are expected to announce an additional six captain's picks next week. REUTERS
