Netflix quietly cancels 'gem of a series' with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes
A Netflix show fans hailed as 'amazingly intimate' and a show for the 'whole family' has quietly been scrapped after just one series.
In late 2023, documentary maker Greg Whitely treated fans to Wrestlers, which gave an peek behind the scenes at how a professional wrestling company was really run.
It still has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but Al Snow – whose promotion OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) was the focus of the series – has exclusively told Metro that a second season is officially off the table for Netflix.
'There were certainly talks. They had an option for a second season up until last September, and they just never took the option,' he explained.
'[It] just ticked past. There was no fanfare or anything of that nature. It just quietly moved on.'

The 62-year-old star heard on the grapevine that there had been some behind the scenes moves 'to do basically the same format with more established brands'.
Indeed, filmmaker Whitely went onto work on series featuring the likes of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, while Netflix launched WWE Unreal this week, which gives fans an intimate look behind the curtain of the worldwide juggernaut.
Al, who wrestled for WWE from 1995 to 2008, insisted the new WWE series is 'good for everybody', while the door isn't shut on OVW reviving Wrestlers in another way.
'From what I understand, we have the option to have a second season, if we wish. We just would do it with a different streaming service than Netflix,' he added.
Confirmation Wrestlers isn't returning to the streamer will be a blow to viewers, who had hoped for a second season after getting hooked on the original run.
'This wrestling documentary is amazing! It made me cry because I felt the hard work of all the wrestlers and everyone at OVW,' wrote Charish Herida on Google Reviews.
'Great show the whole family can watch together. Fantastic binge worthy series,' added Kelly iztheBest, while William Luckett said: 'Greg Whitely makes amazingly intimate portrayals that you can tell are authentic and not overproduced.'
And Simon Manley said: 'There are heavy emotional moments in here as well as heavy bumps and hats off to [them], there are some real cinematic moments here too. Greg Whiteley has created an absolute gem of a series that wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans alike will love.'
Thankfully for OVW fans, the company is still going strong after being bought out by UK-based sports agency Morley Sports Management (MSM), who are launching a new initiative to give athletes in football, rugby and other sports a launchpad into wrestling. More Trending
MSM founder and CEO Rob Edwards said: 'We absolutely know the talent is there in the UK – particularly in football – and the opportunities we OVW provide could give so many sports people another chance.'
But Al warned that he's seen lots of athletes come into wrestling without realising the 'physical exertion and amount of commitment' required.

Wednesday season 2 has now been released on Netflix and the new episodes were not shot in Romania. Wednesday, one of Netflix 's most successful shows to date, has made a triumphant return today with the first part of its second season. The show's stunning visuals and breathtaking sets have already sparked curiosity among fans about where the second season was filmed - a location completely different from the first season. The inaugural season of the supernatural series, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, was fittingly shot in Romania, famously known as Dracula's homeland. However, due to various reported 'logistical challenges' during filming, Wednesday has since relocated. Tim Burton's gothic series, featuring stars such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Fred Armisen, has returned for a second season in a drastically different setting, reports the Express. Where was Wednesday season 2 filmed? For the second season of the Netflix series, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reportedly chose Ireland, an obvious choice given its gothic castles and dark forests. While Cantacuzino Castle in Romania served as the famous Nevermore Academy in the first season, the production turned to Charleville Castle in County Offaly, central Ireland, for its new location. Dublin locals might also recognise Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility, where Tyler Galpin (played by Hunter Doohan) is being held, as it was filmed at Clonliffe College. Furthermore, Dublin's Trinity College was also cleverly transformed to resemble Newark Airport in the opening episode of season 2, whilst Wednesday's encounter with sinister serial killer the Kansas City Scalper (Haley Joel Osment) at his residence was filmed at a housing development in the County Wicklow town of Newcastle. County Wicklow's Ashford Studios also supplied numerous interior scenes for the programme, including Nevermore Academy's Founders Pyre and the internal shots of Willow Hill and Rotwood Cottage. Furthermore, Camp Jericho and Nevermore Cemetery were constructed at a stunning 18th century estate renowned for its gardens called Powerscourt House. The 2017 film Little Women and other acclaimed productions such as Laurence Olivier's Henry V and Excalibur have similarly been filmed on the estate's grounds. Sofia Carson's My Oxford Year hair hero revealed– the 'everywhere' balm behind her shine

No spoilers, but if you've seen My Oxford Year, or at the very least some teasers of it on Netflix, you'll know two things: just how devastating the plot it, and just how incredible Sofia Carson looks. Playing the American post-grad student Anna De La Vega, Sofia, 32, has quickly shot up to style icon status thanks to the looks her character served. But away from her preppy knits and expansive winter jacket wardrobe, the actress shone in one other department that had nothing to do with her wardrobe: her hair. We spent the whole 1h53 minutes desperately Googling to find out exactly what was used on Sofia's hair on the set to give her that mirror-like shine, and we finally have the intel. Hair pro Rebekah Forecast, who did the make-up for My Oxford Year, quietly dropped a full list of everything she used on Sofia's hair, and we've pinpointed Jones Road's Everywhere Balm Hippie Stick, £36, as the product behind her shiny tresses. Think of it less as a secret weapon and more as a Swiss army knife. This slip-on-the-go multi-use balm can literally be used from forehead to heels (and yes, hair too). Another product that is definitely premium, but also gives premium results. The fact that Rebekah uses a range of fine sprays and volume-boosting products tells us that Sofia might actually have quite fine hair, which makes the styles she boasted for the Netflix movie all the more impressive. If even fine-haired girls can get shine and volume like that, without strands looking greasy, they're products we want for ourselves.

EastEnders' Joel branded a ‘disgusting little pervert' as Ross makes a discovery
Ross Marshall (Alex Walkinshaw) has finally flipped over Joel's (Max Murray) disgusting behaviour in EastEnders. It became immediately clear when the father and son arrived in Walford alongside Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) earlier this year that they were hiding a fair few skeletons in their closet. They couldn't return to their home in Australia, as Joel had upskirted a pupil in his class, and Ross had paid her family $50,000 in exchange for their silence. He's since enacted havoc on the residents of Albert Square, impregnating Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and introducing new mate Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) to dangerous adult content online. Later, Joel showed Tommy videos made by a disgusting influencer, who degrades women. Joel thought this was an appropriate way to talk about the opposite sex, branding his own mum a 'slapper', talking about how she abandoned him as a child. He also sexually assaulted a passenger on the London Underground in an utterly vile move, with Vicki paying off the victim. Earlier this week, Joel discovered some big news about his estranged mother Cleo, that left him reeling. Other than Joel's derogatory comments about his mum, we don't know an awful lot about her. She contacted Ross to inform him that she was remarrying, and despite us finally finding out her name, fans are still convinced that she is none other than Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), using a pseudonym. This was fuelled by him yelling: 'Well, you ain't my mum, you don't get to tell me what to do!' during a row with Vicki, which seemed to echo a very famous 'Enders quote. As long-term fans will remember, back in 2005, Zoe screamed: 'You can't tell me what to do, you ain't my mother!', as her mum Kat (Jessie Wallace) howled back: 'Yes I am!' Joel's version coincidentally aired in the same week that Zoe returned after 20 years. Well, rather unsurprisingly, he hasn't taken it well. As we saw, he headed to The Vic to catch up with Tommy – and suggested they make things more exciting by stealing some booze from the barrel store. It didn't take long for the lads to be discovered, and Ross dragged Joel home. As he was being carted out of the pub he spurted a number of derogatory and extremely concerning comments about Kat. Back at home, Ross made another worrying discovery… In tonight's episode, Ross attempted to worm his way into Joel's mindset and learn the extent of his issues. Joel told his dad that as a man he has no rights, and continued to tear strips off Kat. Ross was at a loose end with what to say, and suggested they have a beer together and a heart to heart.
