Egypt and Saudi Arabia Reaffirm Deep Political and Economic Cooperation
Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdel Aaty met with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the coastal city of Alamein, where both sides reaffirmed the depth and strength of Egyptian Saudi relations, rejecting any attempts to question or weaken the historic bond between the two nations.
During the meeting, both ministers praised the rapid development of bilateral ties under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They emphasized the strong political will driving both countries toward deeper cooperation across strategic, economic, and security sectors.
The two officials highlighted the importance of the Egyptian Saudi Supreme Coordination Council, a platform established to elevate bilateral collaboration to levels that reflect the aspirations of the two peoples. This body plays a central role in enhancing economic, investment, and trade partnerships between Cairo and Riyadh.
Dr Abdel Aaty strongly condemned recent attempts by irresponsible online platforms to undermine or distort the strength of Egyptian Saudi relations. He described such efforts as desperate and baseless, reaffirming Egypt's full rejection of any slander targeting the alliance between the two countries. He underscored the unshakable foundation of trust and mutual respect that defines the relationship.
The meeting also addressed several pressing regional developments, most notably the ongoing situation in Gaza. The Egyptian minister reviewed Cairo's continued efforts to secure a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian access, and prepare for an international conference focused on the reconstruction of Gaza. Both sides agreed on the urgency of halting the violence and ensuring unimpeded delivery of aid.
The discussion extended to Libya, where Dr Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt's support for a Libyan led solution free from foreign interference. He stressed the need to preserve Libya's sovereignty and unity and to support national institutions as part of a sustainable peace framework.
The crisis in Sudan was also a focus of the dialogue. Both ministers expressed a shared concern over the ongoing conflict and emphasized the importance of protecting Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, while rejecting external meddling and encouraging efforts toward a peaceful resolution led by Sudanese stakeholders.
In light of recent developments in Syria, the ministers strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, including the targeting of the Tishreen Presidential Palace and military sites in Damascus. They reiterated their commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and called for Israel's full withdrawal from occupied Syrian land, including the Golan Heights, in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions.
The meeting concluded with a clear reflection of mutual alignment and strategic coordination between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral partnership and collaborating on regional solutions rooted in diplomacy, respect for sovereignty, and shared Arab interests.

Taarek Refaat The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecasted that Egypt will generate approximately $3 billion in revenue from asset sales during the fiscal year 2024-25. This comes as part of the country's ongoing economic reform program, which is being carried out in collaboration with the IMF. The Egyptian government has been implementing measures aimed at reducing the state's role in the economy and fostering greater participation from the private sector. These steps have included a series of state-owned asset sales, designed to unlock value, attract both local and foreign investment, and reduce public debt. According to the IMF's projections, Egypt is expected to generate $3.6 billion from asset sales in the 2024-25 fiscal year. However, this figure is anticipated to decline in subsequent years, with $3 billion expected for 2025-26, and further down to $2.1 billion in 2026-27. This steady decline reflects the limited pool of state-owned assets left for sale, as the government has already offloaded a significant portion of its holdings in recent years. It also signals that Egypt's reliance on asset sales to meet its fiscal targets may become less viable as time progresses. The IMF has been a key partner in Egypt's efforts to stabilize and grow its economy, particularly since the country entered a $12 billion loan agreement with the Fund in 2016. As part of the economic reform program, which aims to boost private sector investment and reduce public sector dominance, the government has been tasked with privatizing a number of state-owned companies. Over the past few years, Egypt has taken steps to privatize major assets, including the sale of stakes in state-owned banks, energy companies, and infrastructure firms. One of the most significant assets still under negotiation is the potential sale of Bank Cairo, which has faced delays primarily due to pricing disputes. While asset sales can provide immediate fiscal relief, the strategy has its critics. Some argue that selling state-owned assets may not be a sustainable long-term solution for Egypt's economic challenges. Concerns also persist about the social impact of such privatization efforts, particularly regarding jobs and service provision. UAE inaugurates first-of-its-kind SDG exhibition at UN HQ - Middle East Business News and Information
New York-USA. July 2025 – The UAE has held its first national exhibition at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City, as part of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development 2025. Titled 'Shaping Tomorrow: UAE Leadership for a Sustainable Future', the exhibition reflects the UAE's commitment to expanding international action to achieve SDGs, as well as its involvement in shaping the future of global development. The inauguration was attended by Her Excellency Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General; His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN; His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange and Chair of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, and head of the UAE delegation participating in the HLPF; alongside representatives from international organizations and government delegations from around the world. Platform for Showcasing Inclusive Development: The exhibition was organised jointly by entities including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Investment, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Dubai Chambers, and Noor Dubai Foundation, a member of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI). The entities showcased their experiences and globally replicable initiatives in sustainable development, including in innovation, climate action, community empowerment. Beyond 2030: Four Pillars for Development: The exhibition is the first of its kind organised by the UAE at the UN HLPF. It offers an interactive experience that highlights the UAE's journey in supporting sustainable development goals since the Rio Summit in 2000. The exhibition represents an extension of the dialogue initiated by the UAE in the Government Experience Exchange Programme with more than 170 leaders and decision-makers during the World Government Summit 2023. The exhibition presents the framework of sustainable development goals as an ambitious vision for the UAE beyond 2030, based on four main pillars: integrating sustainability into national policies and legislation; monitoring impact through accurate indicators and data; developing a flexible development model through 'Future Zones'; and enhancing international partnerships through knowledge sharing, particularly through the Government Experience Exchange Programme. HE Abdullah Lootah: the Exhibition Reflects UAE's Commitment to a More Sustainable Future His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah said: 'The UAE is committed to sharing best practices and successful experiences with partners around the world. The 'Shaping Tomorrow' exhibition embodies the UAE's vision for a global development pathway based on partnership, knowledge sharing, and innovation. This reflects the UAE's approach to creating solutions that can be scaled globally and reflects its commitment to supporting global dialogue on the post-2030 era. This includes initiatives like the Government Experience Exchange Programme.' National Initiatives Supporting Global Goals: The exhibition highlighted major national development efforts that have had global impact. The Ministry of Interior showcased its 'Green Justice' initiative in Latin America, aimed at combating transnational environmental crimes, as part of its efforts supporting SDG 17. Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) presented its contributions to financing projects in 100+ countries, supporting infrastructure, education, and renewable energy. The Supreme Committee for Motherhood and Childhood showcased its initiatives aimed at empowering women and children, including the 'National Child Empowerment Guide' and the 'Emirati Children's Parliament,' which enhance children's participation in decision-making in support of SDG 5. Noor Dubai Foundation presented its model for combating visual impairments in support of SDG 3. This includes the iBSAR project in Asia and Africa, which provides preventive and therapeutic care. EAD showcased its efforts in protecting marine ecosystems through initiatives such as the 'Marine Turtle Protection Program' and smart monitoring technologies for coral reefs, aligning with SDG 14. UAE Model for Integrated Development: These initiatives exemplify the integration between the UAE's national vision and its global commitments, by linking local policies with international development goal.

'Sleeping Prince' Passes away after 20-Year Coma
Rana Atef On Saturday, Saudi Prince Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud announced the passing of his son, Prince Al-Waleed, known as the 'Sleeping Prince', after being in a coma for nearly 20 years due to a car accident. Prince Khalid shared details of the funeral on his account on the 'X' platform, stating: "With hearts full of faith in God's will and deep sorrow, we mourn our beloved son Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God have mercy on him, who passed away today." He added that the funeral prayer for the late prince will be on Sunday at at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque after Asr (afternoon) prayer. Prince Khalid also announced that condolences will be received for three days starting Sunday through Tuesday: Men's condolences will be held at Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal's Palace in Al-Fakhriyah district. Women's condolences will be at Al-Fakhriyah Palace, the palace of Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, after Maghrib (sunset) prayer. Prince Al-Waleed had suffered the accident in 2005 while studying at a military college, which left him in a coma and earned him the nickname 'The Sleeping Prince.'
