The Zacks Analyst Blog Highlights Alphabet and Apple
Chicago, IL – July 18, 2025 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the Analyst Blog. Every day the Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and the financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Alphabet GOOGL and Apple AAPL.
Here are highlights from Thursday's Analyst Blog:
Alphabet vs. Apple: Which Consumer AI Stock Is the Better Buy Right Now?
Alphabet and Apple are the two most well-known providers of consumer apps marketplaces through Google Pay Store and Apple App Store, respectively. The companies are taking initiatives to infuse artificial intelligence (AI) into their consumer-centric offerings to expand their user base and boost market share.
Unlike enterprises and businesses, individual consumers have been much cautious to adopt AI and generative AI (Gen AI) into their daily lifestyle and routines. Per a Bain & Company December 2024 survey, only 35% of U.S. consumers used Gen AI in comparison to 95% of U.S. and European companies. Concerns around privacy, accuracy and data security have hindered proliferation among individual consumers.
However, the scenario seems to have changed in the past six months of 2025. As per a latest report by Menlo Ventures, almost 61% of U.S. adults (survey sample of more than 5,000 U.S. adults) have used AI over the past six months, and nearly 19% have made it a habit to use it on a daily basis. Although monetization remains weak (only 3% paying for premium services among an estimated user base of 1.8 billion), the growing infusion of AI tools into consumer lifestyle that makes users complete their daily routine in a better, faster and cheaper way is expected to boost spending.
According to the New Minds, New Markets study by Cognizant in collaboration with Oxford Economics, the 18–44-year-old AI enthusiasts will "command an estimated $4.4 trillion of AI-influenced consumer spending in the U.S. by 2030," driven by a rise in income and purchasing power. For the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany, the projection stands at $690 billion, $669 billion, and $539 billion, respectively. Alphabet and Apple are well-poised to cultivate this huge opportunity.
Nevertheless, GOOGL or AAPL, which has an edge under the current scenario?
The Case for GOOGL Stock
Alphabet's open and cloud-centric approach has been driving the popularity of its applications among consumers. In first-quarter 2025, Alphabet surpassed 270 million paid subscriptions with YouTube and Google One as key drivers. Google Assistant, now called Gemini, is the #2-ranked general AI assistant in terms of usage (23% share) among all U.S. adults as per Menlo Ventures' survey, beating Apple Siri, which is in the #5 position (16% share).
Alphabet's initiatives to deploy AI and infuse AI in Search are driving top-line growth. Search revenues are driven by improving engagement with features like AI Overview, which now has 1.5 billion users per month and is available in more than 15 languages across 140 countries. The addition of AI mode expands AI Overview's advanced reasoning, thinking and multimodal capabilities. Advancements in the latest Gemini models are helping Alphabet to upgrade AI Overviews with easier-to-read responses, breaking down key information and incorporating more visuals directly into responses.
Circle to Search is driving additional Search and is gaining popularity among younger users. Circle to Search, which is currently available on more than 300 million Android devices, is expected to gain further popularity with the addition of AI Mode. Circle to Search can now be used to get instant help during gaming on mobile.
The Case for AAPL Stock
Apple is seeing better iPhone 16 sales in regions where Apple Intelligence is available. Apple expanded the availability of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 updates in new languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified) — as well as localized English for Singapore and India — and are accessible in nearly all regions around the world. At the end of 2025, Apple Intelligence will be available in eight more languages: Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, Chinese (traditional) and Vietnamese.
New Apple Intelligence features, such as Live Translation, updates to visual intelligence, as well as enhancements to Image Playground and Genmoji, are noteworthy. Shortcuts can access Apple Intelligence directly. Apple Intelligence is now getting added to Apple Wallet, and users can make purchases with Apple Pay.
However, Apple Intelligence continues to lag the "WoW" factor, which has been a concern. Delayed and staggered launches are other concerns.
GOOGL Earnings Estimate Revision Positive, AAPL's Goes South
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for GOOGL's 2025 earnings is pegged at $9.56 per share, up 3 cents over the past 60 days, indicating an 18.91% increase over 2024's reported figure.
The consensus mark for Apple's fiscal 2025 earnings has declined by a penny to $7.10 per share over the past 60 days, suggesting 5.19% growth over fiscal 2024.
Alphabet Shares Outperform Apple
Shares of Alphabet and Apple have suffered from challenging macroeconomic conditions, volatility related to higher tariffs and increasing regulatory concerns. Year to date, GOOGL shares have lost 3.3%, outperforming Apple's decline of 16%.
Valuation: Alphabet's P/S Ratio is Cheaper Than Apple
In terms of forward 12-month Price/Sales (P/S), Apple shares are trading at 7.52X, higher than Alphabet's 6.41X.
While Apple has a Value Score of D, Alphabet carries a Value Score of C, suggesting both shares are overvalued.
Here's Why Alphabet Is a Better Consumer AI Stock Right Now
Alphabet is benefiting from the growing popularity of Gemini, AI Overview and Circle to Search among consumers. Continuous innovation across search, productivity and developer tools is a key catalyst for Alphabet. In comparison, Apple is still playing a catch-up role with Apple Intelligence.
Currently, Alphabet has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), making the stock a stronger pick compared with Apple, which has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

Trump Tailwind? How the BBB Could Boost DraftKings Stock
President Donald Trump made headlines with the signing of his first major piece of legislation: the One Big Beautiful Bill (BBB). Most of the attention has gone toward the extension of Trump's tax cuts and changes to federal programs like Medicaid. However, embedded in the approximately 870-page law is a significant change to how the federal government taxes gamblers. This has notable implications for the rapidly growing sports betting giant DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG). The bill could ultimately provide a significant tailwind for the consumer discretionary stock, as it hurts those that cause DraftKings to lose money. Let's dive into the specifics and why investors should care below. The BBB Makes Winning Money Betting Much Harder For Pros The BBB contains a key change in tax law with huge ramifications for those who cut into DraftKings' profits: professional gamblers. Traditionally, bettors can deduct 100% of their losses from their winnings when they calculate their income taxes. That means if they had $100,000 in winning bets and $100,000 in losing bets, they made no profit and paid no additional tax. However, due to the BBB, beginning in 2026, gamblers will only be able to deduct 90% of their losses. Under the same scenario, they could now only deduct $90,000 from their $100,000 in winnings. This means that their taxable income will be $10,000 higher. They will now have to pay taxes on that $10,000, turning what was once a break-even year into a loss. Although this change technically affects all gamblers, it is likely to have the most detrimental effect on professionals. They make their living by betting and are much more likely to report their betting gains and losses on their taxes. Overall, the BBB makes it much harder for these professional bettors to generate an after-tax profit. So, what does this mean for DraftKings? DraftKings' Margins Look Poised to Get a Boost For pros to earn money, someone has to lose money; that someone is DraftKings. As it becomes much harder for these bettors to turn a profit, they are likely to cut back significantly on their bets at DraftKings. Thus, the chance that DraftKings will lose money decreases, as a higher percentage of users will be casual bettors. This can help push DraftKings' margins up as it pays out less to winners. Still, DraftKings' betting volume should decrease, slowing their revenue growth. However, the company is likely fine with this. Pro bettor volume does little good for the company if it is losing money on these bets anyway. Comments made by renowned gambler Steve Fezzik crystallize the negative effect on professional bettors. Fezzik is the only two-time winner of the Las Vegas Hilton SuperContest, widely regarded as the world's most prestigious sports betting contest. On a recent podcast appearance, Fezzik called the Big Beautiful Bill 'a disaster for professional sports bettors." For the reasons explained above, Fezzik said DraftKings is 'perfectly happy' with the BBB changes. He ultimately suggested that many pro bettors will consider taking a year off gambling if the new rule is not amended by the start of 2026. These comments clearly point to the idea that the BBB is good for DraftKings. If margins increase due to these changes, DraftKings' stock could benefit substantially in 2026. DraftKings Growth Prospects Remain Strong Despite Near-Term Headwinds While potential boosts to margins are great, DraftKings still needs to grow its betting volume and revenues for the stock to gain. The company is also dealing with betting tax hikes from multiple states that are likely to negatively impact its growth. Illinois enacted a law that requires sportsbooks to pay a tax of $0.25 on the first 20 million wagers. For any wagers over that limit, the tax increases to $0.50. In response, DraftKings and competitor Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT) will charge Illinois bettors a $0.50 fee per bet. Increasing costs for bettors are likely to negatively impact volume. Still, the long-term outlook for DraftKings' volume remains strong. Currently, only 30 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, allow online sports betting. The states that do not allow online betting include Texas and California, which hold around 20% of the U.S. population. Thus, DraftKings has a great chance to grow its addressable market through further legalization. This could lead to a significant boost in volumes over time. This, combined with pushing out pro bettors, could create a perfect storm for the stock in the long run. Where Should You Invest $1,000 Right Now? These Stocks Are Skyrocketing and Are Still Solid Long-Term Buys
Key Points Nvidia stock is surging following news that it can resume chip sales to China. Microsoft can benefit tremendously from artificial intelligence (AI) integration across its products. 10 stocks we like better than Nvidia › Great businesses pursuing massive growth opportunities will see their share prices continuously hit new highs over the long term. This is why investors shouldn't be afraid to buy quality growth stocks at a new high. What matters is understanding the momentum in the business itself, and how long that growth can last. Some analysts have questioned whether the best days of the " Magnificent Seven" are over, yet Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) continue to hit new highs following strong earnings results this year. Here's why these high-flying tech stocks are still solid buys for at least the next five years. 1. Nvidia Shares of Nvidia are sitting close to new highs after the company just received welcome news. Following a meeting between CEO Jensen Huang and President Donald Trump, the U.S. government will allow Nvidia to resume sales of its H20 chip in China, unlocking billions in quarterly revenue. That said, Nvidia would have been just fine without revenue from China. Even including the China restrictions, analysts were expecting Nvidia to report $200 billion in revenue this year, for an increase of 53% over fiscal 2025 (ending in January). But resuming sales of the H20 should cause analysts to raise their near-term revenue and earnings estimates, likely sending the stock higher. The H20 is basically a watered-down version of the company's more capable H200 data center chip. Sales to China totaled $17 billion last year, or 13% of Nvidia's revenue. The H20 generated $4.6 billion in revenue in fiscal Q1 before it had to cancel shipments due to new licensing requirements for sales to China. The $2.5 billion of revenue that Nvidia left on the table in fiscal Q1 will likely be realized in fiscal Q3, adding more upside to analysts' current $45 billion revenue estimate for fiscal Q2. Nvidia's China business could grow significantly as a percentage of its total revenue over the next year. During the last earnings call with analysts, Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said the company had planned for $8 billion of H20 orders in fiscal Q2 before the restrictions took effect. This just adds more fuel to the fire for Nvidia's near-term momentum. Strong demand for its Blackwell chip should benefit Nvidia's margins and earnings in the second half of the year. Current analyst estimates call for quarterly adjusted non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) earnings growth to accelerate to 47% year over year in fiscal Q2, before growing 44% in fiscal Q3, and 50% in fiscal Q4. However, these estimates likely exclude additional H20 sales, since this news just broke in the last week. While there is a lot of noise around competition with custom chipmakers, Nvidia can grow at high rates for several years. The investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is a gigantic opportunity, large enough for multiple suppliers to do well. Nvidia is already preparing to launch the next-generation Vera Rubin chip next year, which should keep its momentum going. Looking out to fiscal 2030, analysts expect Nvidia's revenue to grow at an annualized rate of 21%, reaching $342 billion. Earnings are expected to grow slightly faster, at 23%. This lines up with Huang's expectation that Nvidia will capture a large portion of the $1 trillion in annual data center spending projected in the next four years. The stock could climb at similar rates as earnings, which makes Nvidia an excellent growth stock to buy and hold for the long term, even at its current price around $170 a share. 2. Microsoft Microsoft reported better-than-expected demand for AI services in its enterprise cloud business last quarter. As a leader in productivity software, Microsoft can benefit tremendously over the long term from AI integration across its products. It's for these reasons that the stock has skyrocketed to new highs since its fiscal Q3 earnings report in late April. Microsoft Azure is the second-leading enterprise cloud provider that continues to gain share of a growing $348 billion market, according to Synergy Research. Azure revenue grew 33% year over year last quarter, but what got investors' attention was that 16 percentage points of Azure's growth was driven by AI services. It seems every industry is embracing this revolutionary technology and doubling down on it. Microsoft sent a strong signal that the ramp in AI investment is just getting started. CEO Satya Nadella noted that the company is expanding its data center capacity, opening 10 new data centers across 10 countries. The company's AI-powered assistant, Microsoft Copilot, has attracted hundreds of thousands of corporate customers, up three times year over year in the last quarter. It is winning bigger deals for Copilot in the enterprise market, and existing customers are returning to buy more seats for their employees. Microsoft is even prepared for the next major advancement in cloud services with its range of software and development tools for quantum computing. The Azure Quantum platform has multiple leaders providing simulators and other tools for customers, including IonQ and Rigetti. Microsoft 's AI investments and leadership in software put it in a great position, which is reflected in analysts' growth estimates. Current estimates call for Microsoft to report $279 billion for fiscal 2025 ending in June, and that is expected to grow at an annualized rate of 13% over the next four years. Earnings should grow marginally faster, at a 15% annualized rate. This is enough growth to double the stock by 2029. Should you invest $1,000 in Nvidia right now? SoFi's $35 Trillion Market Opportunity That Investors Aren't Paying Attention To (Yet)
Key Points There's a lot to like about SoFi right now, including its loan platform business and the return of crypto trading. Home lending is not a big part of SoFi's business, but it's growing quickly and could be a massive long-term opportunity. Not only could mortgage volume soar, but refinancing and home equity loans could also be a massive market as rates fall. 10 stocks we like better than SoFi Technologies › SoFi (NASDAQ: SOFI) has roughly tripled over the past year, and to be sure, there is a lot to like about the banking disruptor. For example, in the most recent quarter, SoFi added 800,000 new members -- its highest single-quarter total ever. In addition, SoFi's loan platform, where it originates loans on behalf of third-party partners, is turning into an impressive generator of capital-light fee income. SoFi could also be a big beneficiary of the student loan limitations contained in the recent tax and spending bill. And SoFi recently announced that cryptocurrency trading will return to its platform by the end of the year. I could go on, but you get the idea. This company has a lot going for it. However, SoFi has yet another opportunity that isn't getting much attention -- at least not yet. But this could possibly be SoFi's largest market opportunity of all, and it's a product that the company already offers. A $35 trillion market opportunity A few years ago, millions of Americans were tapping into their home equity. In fact, I'm not sure I could name a homeowner friend who didn't refinance or get some sort of home equity loan during the 2020-2021 period. However, once inflation hit hard in 2022 and interest rates began to rise quickly, this dried up. Many homeowners put big projects on hold that they otherwise would refinance their mortgage to fund. Sure, there are some people using their home equity right now. However, activity is significantly lower compared to the low-rate period. Not only has refinancing and home equity lending volume plummeted, but home values have also risen dramatically over the past five years. As a result, homeowners in the United States have an all-time high of $35 trillion in equity in their homes. SoFi's home loan growth is impressive In the first quarter, SoFi's home loan originations totaled $518 million. This is less than one-tenth of its personal loan originations and about half of its student loan volume. So, it's a small part of the business today. However, consider the progress SoFi has made. After a solid year in 2021, when 3% mortgage rates were common, SoFi's home loan volume fell off a cliff. In the first quarter of 2023, the company originated just $90 million in home loans. So, the volume from the first quarter of 2025 represents a 476% increase in volume in just two years. What to watch One thing that makes the home loan growth over the past two years especially impressive is that SoFi managed to do it in a terrible environment for home loans. Relatively few people are currently tapping into their home equity, and the existing home sales market remains very low. The key factor that could trigger an inflection point is mortgage rates. As I'm writing this, the average 30-year mortgage rate in the United States is about 6.75%. If this falls to 6%, 5.5%, 5%, or even lower over the next few years, it could not only help thaw the sluggish real estate market but also trigger a wave of mortgage refinancing. SoFi currently offers refinancing loans (including cash-out refinancing), a variety of purchase mortgages, and home equity loans and home equity lines of credit (HELOCs). In fact, SoFi's HELOCs have some competitive advantages, such as no application fees and the ability to borrow up to 90% of your home equity (many lenders limit this to 80%). As mentioned, Americans are sitting on $35 trillion in home equity, so the surge in volume could be massive. The bottom line is that SoFi's home loan business isn't a major component of its ecosystem yet, but it's heading in that direction. And if rates fall significantly, it could become one of the bank's most exciting opportunities. Should you invest $1,000 in SoFi Technologies right now? Before you buy stock in SoFi Technologies, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and SoFi Technologies wasn't one of them.
