'Welsh wizard' Congreve making a big impression

BBC News05-02-2025

Cameron Congreve is making a case to be given a chance to prove himself at Swansea City during a positive loan spell with Bromley. The 21-year-old scored twice in Bromley's 3-3 League Two draw at Salford City on Tuesday night, with the club describing Congreve as "our Welsh wizard" on social media. No wonder, perhaps, given that Congreve has found the target four times in his last six games. In all, the Wales Under-21 international has scored five times in 31 games for Bromley, who are 16th in the fourth tier following last season's promotion from the National League. That represents a big step forward for Swansea academy product Congreve, who failed to feature in the first team in 2023-24 having made 18 appearances under Russell Martin across the previous two campaigns.Congreve's Swansea contract expires at the end of this season, though the deal includes an option for a 12-month extension.

Callum Osmand can be Celtic punisher as Marco Silva gives Brendan Rodgers the key to unlock potential

Osmand is set to join the Premiership champions from Fulham as the Hoops take advantage of cross border transfers yet again Marco Silva has told Celtic how to get the best out of incoming new signing Callum Osmand. The Fulham starlet is set to follow in Moussa Dembele 's footsteps and make the move from Craven Cottage to Parkhead as the Premiership champions once again take advantage of cross border transfers for Under 21 payers. ‌ They will land the 19-year-old for training compensation and the Welsh youth international is understood to have already completed his Hoops medical. ‌ Cottagers boss Marco Silva rates Osmand highly, and promoted him to train with the first team and take his place on the bench towards the end of last season, although he wasn't given an English Premier League run out. And if the Portuguese's comments on Osmand are anything to go by, he will be disappointed to lose him, although the reason for leaving is exactly what Silva said the youngster needed after bringing him into the top team fold at Fulham. And he reckons a strike partner will allow Brendan Rodgers to see Osmand at his full potential further down the line. 'It's not his first time he's been with us," said Silva towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. "Last season, he had some sessions with us, pre-season too, and the beginning of the season. "He is much more mobile [than a traditional centre forward], let's see if he is going to have a chance or not to play some minutes, but he is going to have a chance to train much more with us, to be much more involved with the first team. ‌ 'He needs more senior football in his legs to see how he can adapt, perform. He's got the profile that I like. When he has a chance, he can punish the opposition. "I can see the talent, in a position that is very difficult to play in the Premier League. Probably if you play another striker by his side … you will take the best from him. Let's hope we can help him to be ready for the Premier League.'

Former Love Island contestant is East Kilbride's first summer signing as boss hails 'athletic and powerful' striker

Kilby have snapped up Ouzy See as they make moves to bolster their squad for a League Two title tilt East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy reckons 'athletic and powerful' ex-Love Island contestant Ouzy See will earn plenty of admirers at Casa K-Park this season after joining the Lowland League champions. Former Edinburgh City striker See is Kennedy's first signing of the SPFL era and the Love Island heartthrob - who featured in the 2023 edition of the hit ITV reality series - is bound to catch the eye as they embark on their first campaign in League Two after winning the Lowland League last term. ‌ The striker scored 31 goals in 99 appearances for the Citizens and Kilby will be hoping he can fire them to another promotion. ‌ Kennedy said: "If you look at his time at Edinburgh City, he was really successful and was the focal point of the team. Certainly in League One, League Two, he is one of the best striker around so I'm delighted to get him. "He fits the profile for us. He's athletic, powerful and he looks after himself. I have no doubt he will be a fantastic signing for us." On the Love Island appearance, Kennedy added: "Most of the boys are quite tight with Ouzy so I think he's already had a ribbing about Love Island. That was a couple of years ago now and I don't expect him to be doing anything like that again. "There was a bit of competition to get him, but I think he really bought into the project here and what we are trying to achieve." Kennedy is excited to see how See will link-up with strike partner Cami Elliott, who netted 41 goals for Kilby in their promotion-winning campaign. ‌ See hit eight goals for City in 28 appearances last term, but Kennedy insists that it is not just about goals for him. He addeed: "Ouzy will be a very good addition and a great foil for Cami Elliott as well. I think Cami will be here for the foreseeable future and the two of them can work well together. "If you look at Cami, his season before he came back to us wasn't very high in terms of goals but he really hit the levels last season. ‌ "Ouzy will score more than eight goals next season, I'm sure, but centre forwards are about more than just goals for us. It is about their abilty to occupy the centre-backs, their ability to run channels or bring other people into play. "Our goals are spread across the team so high number aren't a concern for me, it is more about how they fit into the structure. "In terms of ability and profile, Ouzy and Cami are very similar and I'm looking forward to seeing how they go." ‌ Kennedy also revealed he will soon be adding further fresh faces to the ranks. He added: "There will be three or four more signings announced this week and maybe another couple the following week. Things are getting tied up over the next couple of days with agents and then we'll be sorted." ‌ Meanwhile, Kennedy has hailed coach Blair Munn after he opted to leave Kilby to pursue a new opportunity after two years at K-Park. He said: "I always tell people that two of the most important decisions you will make in your life are the environments you place yourself in and the people you surround yourself with. One of the best decisions I have made in life was inviting Blair on to my coaching staff, we have shared so many great moments together, built memories that will last a lifetime. "Blair is someone I have grown to admire, respect and love. I will miss him dearly, but I'm grateful for having him in my life, our friendship goes far beyond football, I will miss him not being at my side on the training ground and in the dugout. "EK's loss will now become someone else gain, I'm sure he will go on and be a great success in his new role. We wish him nothing but good fortune and success. Take care my friend."

Welsh supporter Scott Rees fell from the upper tier of the Stade Roi Baudouin into the lower tier while celebrating a goal for Craig Bellamy's side during the 4-3 defeat in Brussels and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Remarkably, the 29-year-old has now reassured fellow fans that he is "fine", although he has also revealed he broke a small bone in his back in the fall. ‌ In a post on a Wales football fans group page on Facebook, Mr Rees shared a photo of himself doing a thumbs up alongside two fellow Welsh fans and wrote: "I'm fine. ‌ "I fell from the top tier and only broken a small bone in my back. Hope everyone had a good night." He later added: "Really appreciate all the messages, had lots of people checking in on me. I'm battered and bruised but thankfully I'll live to tell the tale with no long term damage." Mr Rees was later seen at Brussels airport in a wheelchair as fans made their way home. Article continues below Reports emerged late in the second half of Monday night's match that a fan had fallen from the top tier of the stadium, with some of the 4,500 Welsh supporters in attendance said to be in tears as the concerning scenes unfolded. Content cannot be displayed without consent Wales fan Ian Hamer told BBC Radio Wales that he had heard a "loud thud" and "huge commotion" shortly after Wales scored their third goal, with Brennan Johnson drawing the teams level at 3-3 having been 3-0 down after 27 minutes. ‌ "Police, stewards, paramedics rushed into that area [the lower tier] and three, four rows were cordoned off," said Mr Hamer. "Word got around quickly that a Wales fan had fallen from the front of the top tier into the lower tier of the stadium and had landed, had sort of clipped some fans as he fell. "The next sort of 15 minutes the paramedics were treating the man and eventually they took him out on a stretcher and brought an ambulance to the back of the concourse, blue lights flashing from where he was taken to hospital after the game. ‌ "Everyone's relieved to know that the man who fell is OK." Comedian and broadcaster Elis James is believed to have been one of the first responders to the incident and he has been hailed as a 'Red Wall legend' on social media for how he and several other fans in the lower tier helped Mr Rees. One post said James was among a group of fans who rushed to get help from stewards and emergency services at the stadium, with supporters working with stewards and FAW liason staff to clear the area as paramedics helped the 29-year-old before moving him out of the stands on a stretcher. ‌ Welsh comedian, broadcaster, actor and football fan Elis James (Image: Adrian White ) A statement from the FAW on Monday night read: "We can confirm that one male fan fell from the upper to lower tier during the match at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels this evening. "He was conscious and speaking and has now been taken to hospital for further checks." Article continues below The match saw Bellamy's men come close to pulling off an incredible comeback result as goals from Harry Wilson, Sorba Thomas and Johnson put them level with Belgium - who looked home and dry with a 3-0 lead after less than half an hour - with just 20 minutes left of the contest. However, it was to be heartbreak in the end as an 88th-minute strike from Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne saw the men in red head home from Brussels empty handed.
