Samuel Bond Haskell IV dies in prison after allegedly killing wife and in-laws in ‘barbaric' act

The son of an Emmy-winning producer who was accused of brutally killing his wife and her parents has been found dead in his prison cell, authorities have confirmed, just days before he was meant to be appear in court for his triple murder trial.
Samuel Bond Haskell IV was facing three counts of murder following the disturbing discovery of his wife, Mei Haskell's torso in a dumpster near his office in November 2023.
He was also charged with the murders of Mei's mother Yanxiang Wang, and her stepfather, Gaoshan Li, whose bodies have never been found.
The 37-year-old pleaded not guilty to all three murder charges in January 2024 and was being held in custody while awaiting trial.
On Saturday morning, Haskell was found dead in his jail cell in what law enforcement believe was suicide, according to The Daily Mail.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman was outraged upon learning the circumstances of Haskell's death, describing it as 'one last cruel act by someone who did the most horrific things for reasons we will never entirely know.'
'Instead of standing before a judge and answering for the crimes he's been charged with, the defendant managed to escape justice,' Mr Hochman said in a statement on Monday.
'A family that has been dealing with unimaginable loss has now been robbed of their chance to face him, hold him accountable for his barbaric actions, and openly share their grief and their cherished memories of their loved ones.'
Mei and her parents were last seen alive on November 6, 2023.
The following day, Haskell was caught on camera allegedly dumping the contents of a bag into a dumpster near his office in Encino, California.
Police also believe Haskell hired labourers to remove three large garbage bags from his residence.
One of the labourers reportedly opened one of the bags and spotted what appeared to be human remains.
Horrified, the workers returned the bags to the home and left the scene after calling police, but the remains were gone by the time officers arrived.
A day later, a woman's torso, was found by someone rummaging through the garbage, which led to Haskell's arrest.
While the bodies of Mr Li and Ms Wang have never been discovered, blood inside the Haskell family home were in line with murder and dismemberment, according to authorities.
Haskell is the son of a top Hollywood producer and agent, who has worked with many stars including George Clooney, Dolly Parton and Whoopi Goldberg.

Michael Shane Caola: Perth man found facedown in pool of blood in Thailand apartment

A man from Perth has been found dead in an apartment in Thailand where he was discovered facedown in a pool of blood. The 54-year-old is believed to be Michael Shane Caola and was found on the seventh floor of the Grand Shivalay apartment in the beachside city of Pattaya in Thailand according to The Daily Mail. Pattaya City Police investigator, Saijai Khamjulla, confirmed that he received reports of the dead Australian at about 4pm local time on Thursday. When entering the room where Caola's body was, officers reportedly found broken glass and scattered pill bottles but couldn't see any signs of struggle. It was the apartment manager, Thanchanok Prajit, who discovered Caola's body after noticing a foul odour coming from his room. 'He was a regular customer, often seen exercising, probably to take care of his health,' she reportedly said. Shockingly, two hours earlier police discovered the body of a 38-year-old Swedish national in a separate room two floors below in the same building. The Swedish man was found naked near an overflowing bathtub with a one-inch laceration to his forehead and right eyebrow, local media outlet Khaosod reported. 'His case does not involve any woman, unlike the previous case involving a Swedish national who died in the same apartment on the same day,' he said. Caola's Facebook profile reveals a series of photos of him alongside young woman who could be from Thailand and there's also a photo of him at what seems to be his own wedding in April 2016. The beachside city of Pattaya, famous for its sex-for-sale wild nightlife and despite recent efforts to remediate the city's image, crime continues to make international headlines.

Unreleased Beyonce music stolen during US tour

Unreleased music by Beyonce along with footage, show plans and concert set lists have been stolen from a car in Atlanta rented by the singer's choreographer and one of her dancers, police say. The theft of the materials, stored on five thumb drives, happened on July 8, two days before Beyonce began a four-day residency at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Atlanta Police Department said it secured an arrest warrant for a suspect whose identity was withheld. Two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, as well as luxury clothing and accessories were also reported stolen, according to the incident report. Beyonce's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue told police they parked their rental car, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, at a food hall in the city. The pair returned to the car an hour later to discover the trunk window had been damaged and two suitcases had been taken. Grant told officers "he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce," the police report stated. The report identifies a possible suspect vehicle as a 2025 red Hyundai Elantra. Responding officers were able to identify "light prints" at the scene, and security cameras in the parking lot captured the incident, according to the report. Officers canvassed an area where the stolen laptop and headphones were tracked by using the devices' location services, the report said. Beyonce kicked off her highly-anticipated tour in late April, taking her Grammy-winning album, Cowboy Carter, to stadiums in the US and Europe. The pop superstar will end her tour with two Las Vegas nights in late July.
