The Golden State Warriors have an important offseason ahead of them as they try to build around their aging trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green to compete for a championship next season.

Of course, the Warriors ended the regular season on fire as they climbed to seventh in the Western Conference and then advanced past the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets in the first round.
Golden State was then eliminated in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves after they were unable to overcome a hamstring injury suffered by Curry in Game 1.

Now the Warriors enter the offseason with some key decisions to make regarding how they want to build around their aging trio to make the roster into a title contender.
One route they could go is potentially trading for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo as they have been linked to the two-time MVP winner.

Despite this, a recent question was brought up about how adding Giannis could impact the future of the franchise.

'What it would take to have Giannis, Steph, Jimmy, and Draymond all on the Warriors, you're talking about a carcass. Those four and 12 Pat Spencers,' Mark Willard said on The Crossover. 'And you'd have no assets for years to come. What if you get Giannis, I guarantee a title next year, however after that you have 12 years of no playoffs. Do you make the trade?'
This is an interesting question to ask and also a good one as the Warriors would give up their entire future to potentially land Giannis for a chance at a championship.
Of course, a roster headlined by Giannis, Curry, Butler and Green would be a title contender next season but with three of the four players in the final years of their careers and Giannis not likely to stick around after they retire, it would be a major risk for the franchise's future.

Because of this, it may be better for Golden State to instead go after a different star or worry about upgrading their depth as they try to capture another championship next season behind their aging trio.

How Steph Curry is preparing for Warriors season despite roster ‘uncertainty'

How Steph Curry is preparing for Warriors season despite roster 'uncertainty' originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area The Warriors are the only team in the NBA who haven't made an offseason move leading up to the 82-game slate in 2025-26. But Golden State superstar guard Steph Curry isn't worried. At his Curry Camp on Thursday, the 11-time NBA All-Star detailed to reporters where his confidence in the Warriors comes from, particularly before training camp starts in late September. 'It's different, for sure,' Curry prefaced about Golden State's move-less offseason. 'But … my confidence is built on the identity that we were able to create over the last third of the regular season last year (and) the playoff journey. We have a really good team, and we do know we need some pieces to help get us to the next level. 'I think the veteran presence that we have — with me, Jimmy [Butler], Draymond [Green] – like, we understand how to prepare through that uncertainty and be able to hit the ground running in training camp, knowing we should have some movement by then.' Curry, a four-time NBA champion and 17-year veteran with his Warriors, isn't writing off the campaign before it even starts. And unlike those fairly critical of Golden State's current makeup, Curry is choosing to remember just how good the Warriors were after acquiring Butler right before the 2025 NBA trade deadline — they had a 23-7 regular-season record with Butler on the floor. Curry also lightly mentioned the Warriors' promising playoff run, which was cut short after he suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain that kept him out of the devastating second-round series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Whether it's the acquisition of veteran center Al Horford, the trading of up-and-coming forward Jonathan Kuminga or something else up Golden State's sleeve, Curry isn't losing any sleep over the Warriors' current roster. After all, he isn't the one making decisions. 'But, you control what you can control,' Curry said. And no matter how many new experiences you have or whatever the difference is from this offseason to the previous ones, you don't let it affect your own personal preparation for the season and then the conversations that we're having on what we need to do to get ready.' Luka Doncic's status for friendly on Saturday has been revealed

Luka Doncic is getting ready these days to represent his native Slovenia in the upcoming EuroBasket competition, which will officially start on Aug. 27. For now, the nations that are participating are playing in friendlies, which are basically exhibition games designed to warm them up for the actual tournament. Doncic took part in Slovenia's first friendly last Friday and had 19 points and five assists. He sat out its last two games, including its contest this Friday versus Lithuania. The good news for Los Angeles Lakers fans is that the 26-year-old superstar will play on Saturday when Slovenia takes on Latvia. When Doncic took the court last Friday, he looked noticeably slimmer and quicker on the court. Saturday's friendly will be another opportunity for Lakers fans to get a glimpse of what should be a new and improved version of the guard. A number of people across the league have said recently that they feel he is poised to have an MVP-type season and possibly win the award for the first time in his career.

Hurston Waldrep throws 6 scoreless innings in combined 2-hitter, Braves blank Guardians 2-0

CLEVELAND (AP) — Hurston Waldrep pitched six scoreless innings in a combined two-hitter and Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Michael Harris II each drove in a run, giving the Atlanta Braves a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Waldrep (3-0) allowed two hits, both to Steven Kwan, in matching his longest outing of the season. The right-hander struck out a career-high seven and walked two before being followed by Daysbel Hernandez and Tyler Kinley. Raisel Iglesias the ninth for his 18th save in 23 opportunities, giving the Braves their third straight win. The Guardians were shut out for the 12th time and fell one game behind the Yankees for the final American League wild-card spot. Alvarez drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth off Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo (3-3), scoring Ozzie Albies. Harris singled home pinch-runner Eli White in the ninth against Carlos Hernández. Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. returned after missing 15 games with a right calf strain, going 0 for 3 with a walk. The former NL MVP, who had been sidelined since July 30, also was called out for baserunner interference in the fourth. Cantillo threw ball four to Alvarez in the fourth just after a fan ran onto the field. It required two security guards and a member of the grounds crew to remove him. Key stat Waldrep made his major league debut last season with the Braves and went 0-1 with a 16.71 ERA in two games, both starts. The 2023 first round pick has a 1.02 ERA in three appearances this year, giving up two runs in 17 2/3 innings. Up next Braves LHP Joey Wentz (3-3, 5.03 ERA) takes on Guardians RHP Slade Cecconi (5-5, 4.11 ERA) in the second game of the series. ___
