Special plan to combat human trafficking formulated
N Sreedevi Rao, SP of the CID's Women Protection Division, announced here on Wednesday that a special plan has been formulated under the leadership of Additional DGP Dr Ravi Shankar Ayyanar to combat human trafficking.
All necessary measures are being taken to prevent the trafficking of women and children.
On Wednesday at the CID headquarters, SP Sreedevi Rao unveiled wall posters jointly created by YAT SEC, HELP, and Vimukthi organisations to mark World Day against Human Trafficking.
Speaking at the event, SP Sreedevi Rao stated that a special action plan is already in motion across the state.
This plan involves establishing Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) statewide, conducting large-scale awareness campaigns against human trafficking, strengthening the AHTUs to crack down on traffickers.

TG half-yearly crime review meeting: DGP calls for tougher crackdown on gangs and drug offences
Telangana Director General of Police Jitender stressed the need for focused and sustained action against organised criminal gangs and drug-related offences across the State. Addressing the concluding session of the first half-yearly crime review meeting held at the DGP's office in Hyderabad on Thursday (August 7), he called on commissioners and superintendents of police to ramp up legal action and surveillance on gang activity in their respective jurisdictions. The meeting was coordinated by CID Additional DGP Charu Sinha and saw the participation of senior officers including TGPA Director Abhilasha Bisht, DG Prisons Soumya Mishra, and Additional DGPs Mahesh M. Bhagwat, V. V. Srinivasa Rao, Swati Lakra, Anil Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Jain, and Stephen Ravindra. Mr. Jitender pointed out that several gang-linked offenders have been serving prison sentences for more than two decades. He said strict provisions under existing laws give officers enough scope to take decisive action. He also directed the force to increase efforts to tackle drug supply networks and rising drug abuse, warning that the trend is endangering youth in the State. He instructed officers to trace the source of seized substances, which are frequently smuggled in from other States. EAGLE Director Sandeep Shandilya informed the gathering about recent arrests of Nigerian nationals involved in trafficking drugs. Drug Control Director Shahnawaz Qasim urged district police units to cooperate closely with drug control authorities, particularly in tackling counterfeit medicines. CID DIG Narayana Naik gave an overview of the new legal provisions. Legal Advisor Ajay Kumar flagged common investigation gaps. TGPA Director Abhilasha Bisht spoke about ongoing police training efforts. Director of Prosecution Sambasiva Reddy addressed legal strategies for handling organised crime. Women and Child Welfare Secretary Anita Ramachandran highlighted the role of Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti. CB-CID would complete caste killing probe in 2 months: State to HC
Madurai: The state on Tuesday informed the Madras high court that the CB-CID would complete the investigation and file the final report within two months in the caste killing case of C Kavin Selva Ganesh, in Tirunelveli. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by S M A Pon Gandhimathinathan. The petitioner sought a direction for a district judge to monitor the CB-CID probe into the caste killing incident and to provide compensation to the family members of the deceased man. The petitioner also sought a direction to the state to enact special legislation to prevent caste killing incidents. During the course of the hearing, the state informed that following the incident, swift actions were taken by the Palayamkottai police, who registered a case and arrested the accused, Surjith, on the same day of the incident on July 27. Police also arrested Surjith's father, Saravanan, who was working as a sub-inspector of police, on July 30. As per SC/ST Act and Rules, interim compensation was paid to the family members of the deceased. Subsequently, the case was also transferred to the CB-CID, who registered a case and commenced their investigation. However, the petitioner's counsel submitted that Surjith's mother, Krishnakumari, who is also a sub-inspector of police, was not yet arrested in the case. He submitted that an inspector of police, Kasipandian, threatened the deceased before the date of occurrence and acted in favour of the accused's family. This aspect should also be looked into by the investigating officer. Since it is a gruesome caste killing, a district judge should monitor the CB-CID probe in the case. A division bench of justice S M Subramaniam and justice A D Maria Clete observed that the CB-CID commenced the investigation in the case. Taking into account the fact that the petitioner had not raised any allegation against the investigating team, the judges directed the CB-CID to complete the investigation in the case and file a final report within two months, as per the state's submission.

Caste killing: investigation will be completed in 60 days, Tamil Nadu government informs High Court
The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that the investigation in the caste killing of Kavin Selvaganesh would be completed in two months. The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by S.M.A. Pon Gandhimathinathan of Thoothukudi district, who had sought a direction for a CB-CID probe, to be monitored by a Tirunelveli District Judge. More relief sought The petitioner had also sought a direction to the government to provide an adequate compensation of ₹50 lakh under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules to the family of the deceased and to bring in a separate Act to prevent 'honour' killings. He said the accused, Surjith, the brother of the girl Kavin loved, and his father Saravanan, a sub-inspector, had been arrested, while Surjith's mother, Krishnakumari, also a sub-inspector, had not been arrested yet. (The accused belongs to the Most Backward Caste). According to the petitioner, Chandrasekar, father of Kavin, had alleged that inspector of police Kasipandian had earlier threatened Kavin with dire consequences and acted in a biased manner in favour of the family of the accused. Given the fact that the parents of the accused are sub-inspectors and given the role of Kasipandian, a District Judge should monitor the investigation, the petitioner said. Additional Advocate-General M. Ajmal Khan submitted that the investigation would be completed by the CB-CID in 60 days and the final report would be filed. An interim compensation of ₹6 lakh had been handed over to the family. A case was booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. No offender would be allowed to go scot free, it was submitted. A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete said the CB-CID had started the investigation and the petitioner had not raised any serious allegation against the investigating team. Giving a direction at this point of time would affect the independence of the investigating officers, the Bench said, posting the matter for further hearing after eight weeks. Panel reviews action In Tirunelveli, the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes met Tirunelveli Collector R. Sukumar and top police officers on Tuesday to review the action being taken following the murder of Kavin Selvaganesh. He was killed on July 27. The eight-member Commission, led by its Chairperson Kishor Makwana, met the Collector, top police officers, and the heads of various departments. Dr. Sukumar explained the circumstances that led to the murder and the action taken by the police. The police also presented a report based on their investigation. Inspector-General of Police, Social Justice and Human Rights, B. Shamoondeswari; Tirunelveli City Police Commissioner Santosh Hadimani; Deputy Commissioners of Police Vinodh Shantharam and Prasanna Kumar; District Revenue Officer M. Suganya; and other officials took part at the meeting. The Commission members had planned to visit the spot where Kavin was murdered. But the plan was dropped. After the meeting, they went to Arumugamangalam to meet the family of the deceased.
