HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Madison Durr scored 19 points and Andrew Ball gave Monmouth the lead with a 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining as the Hawks knocked off Hofstra 68-62 on Thursday night.
Durr shot 2 of 7 from the field and 15 for 18 from the line for the Hawks (10-18, 8-7 Coastal Athletic Association). Jack Collins scored 14 points and added six rebounds. Abdi Bashir Jr. finished with nine points.
German Plotnikov finished with 19 points for the Pride (12-16, 4-11). Silas Sunday added 11 points and two steals for Hofstra. Michael Graham also recorded eight points and eight rebounds. The loss was the Pride's sixth straight.

At the same time, there's the reality of the standings: Last year's NWSL semifinalists finished the afternoon in ninth place, outside of playoff position, and faced the prospect of sinking as low as 12th (out of 14) by the end of the weekend. In the 49th minute, Sonnett headed in Sarah Schupansky's corner kick, but Sonnett was whistled for a foul on the set piece. In the 63rd minute, Esther González was judged to be offside after collecting a loose ball in the box and slotting home what would have been her league-leading eighth goal of the season.

Simone called the post "truly sick." "All of this campaigning because you lost a race," she wrote, seemingly alluding to the 200-yard freestyle at the 2022 NCAA Championships. Riley tied in fifth place with swimmer Lia Thomas, who identifies as transgender. "Straight up sore loser."
