Match report: Man United Women 2-0 Man City Women
Manchester United women booked their place in the final of the inaugural World Sevens tournament by beating local rivals Manchester City 2-0.
The Red Devils finished top of their group after wins over AS Roma, SL Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain in the group stage.
United started brightly, and Simi Awujo had the first effort on goal but ballooned her shot from an acute angle.
Leah Galton hasn't scored yet in the tournament but she almost opened her account when she charged down a clearance but could only drag her effort wide.
United did not need to wait much longer to get their noses in front however, as on four minutes Melvine Malard scored with a world-class strike.
The French forward expertly controlled a long ball up the pitch and instantly turned to rifle an unstoppable effort into the top corner. United have scored some great goals so far in Portugal but this could have been the pick of the bunch.
Marc Skinner's side almost instantly doubled their lead but Elisabeth Terland's strike was well blocked by the keeper.
City had plenty of the ball but failed to get past a water-tight United defence. Just before the half-time break, Awujo had a shot from distance parried away by Khiara Keating.
Both sides struggled to carve out many clear-cut chances at the beginning of the second half until the 24th minute.
Galton broke free of the City defence and teed up Grace Clinton, but the usually deadly finisher rattled the crossbar when she really should have scored.
Nonetheless, United responded in the best way possible and Gabby George's great solo goal gave them a 2-0 lead with just five minutes to play.
The defender raced down the touchline and beat the City player for pace and strength. She kept her composure and dinked the ball past Keating to put United in the driving seat.
Skinner's side largely kept their opposition at bay until the 29th minute when Poppy Pritchard fired an effort wide after breaking free from the United defence.
That was to be the last attempt of the game and it would be the team from the red half of Manchester that would make the final.
United will take on Bayern Munich later on tonight, hoping to have better luck than they had in the FA Cup final last weekend against Chelsea.

PSG appeared to be leading the race to sign Franco Mastantuono, one of South America's brightest young prospects, heading into the summer transfer window. The Argentine teenager has already agreed to personal terms. Advertisement As the deal takes shape, more details are emerging about how the switch happened, especially after PSG seemed to be the likely destination. New details on PSG missing out on Mastantuono to Real Madrid emergeJournalist Jorge C. Picón reported on Wednesday that Luis Enrique had called Mastantuono, and PSG had convinced him. It was only a matter of hours before he was going to sign with the French club—until Real Madrid came in and completely changed the game. Mastantuono's priority was always Real Madrid. Romano recently reported that Real Madrid's Juni Calafat left for Spain after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Mastantuono. Report – Manchester United Flop Tops The Inter Milan List Of Strikers To Sign This Summer
Report – Manchester United Flop Tops The Inter Milan List Of Strikers To Sign This Summer Inter Milan have reportedly placed Man Utd flop Rasmus Hojlund at the top of their summer wishlist. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Dane has leapfrogged other names on Beppe Marotta's shopping list. Advertisement Man Utd had hoped Rasmus Hojlund would be their response to Erling Haaland's transfer to Manchester United. However, the 22-year-old has failed to live up to his staggering £64 million price tag at Old Trafford. Therefore, two years after leaving Atalanta, the robust striker could return to Serie A. (Photo by) Low in the pecking order at the Theatre of Dreams, Hojlund could fancy a move to the San Siro. Indeed, it may be a perfect opportunity for the Denmark international to get his faltering career back on track. Ruben Amorim doesn't see Hojlund as a sustainable attacking option and would likely sanction his departure without flinching. As a result, chances of the ex-Sturm Graz star's return to Serie A are rapidly growing.

Juventus Breaks Silence on Newcastle, Tottenham Target's Future as PSG Exit Looms
Randal Kolo Muani made an immediate impact after joining Juventus on loan from PSG, tallying 10 goal contributions in 19 matches across all competitions. PSG are hoping his strong form in Turin helps raise his value ahead of the summer transfer window. The club is aiming to recoup at least half of the €95 million it paid Eintracht Frankfurt for him in 2023. Advertisement Kolo Muani struggled to earn minutes under Luis Enrique this season, making just two starts. His future could also hinge on how things take shape under Juventus' new coaching staff. After Thiago Motta's departure, Igor Tudor took over, and while Kolo Muani had to fight for a consistent role, he became more involved late in the 2024-25 campaign. As a result, Juventus plan to keep him around for at least the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. What's the latest on Juventus keeping PSG loaneeJuventus' general manager Damien Comolli recently spoke about the outlook of Kolo Muani staying with the Italian side past the FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement 'We've reached an agreement with PSG regarding his salary, and he will be with us for the Club World Cup,' Comolli said (h/t Le10Sport). 'There is no final agreement yet for next season, but I'm optimistic because PSG haven't closed the door, and Kolo Muani wants to stay with us.' Kolo Muani may be open to staying in Turin, but his future at Juventus likely hinges on financial and contractual decisions. Back in April, GIVEMESPORT reported that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make another move for the French forward if Juventus choose not to make his loan permanent. Tottenham are expected to pursue attacking reinforcements this summer, regardless of whether Ange Postecoglou stays on as manager. Muani's next step remains uncertain, but interest in the 26-year-old is picking up. According to TuttoJuve, Arsenal and Newcastle United are currently at the front of the pack. Whether it's another loan or a permanent switch, his future could be one of the summer's most talked-about storylines.
