Harbhajan slams MI support staff after Qualifier 2 loss against PBKS: 'Too much involvement from outside'
Former India and Mumbai Indians off-spinner Harbhajan Singh directed his ire towards the Mahela Jayawardene-led support staff following the Hardik Pandya-led side's five-wicket defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of the 2025 Indian Premier League. PTI
Indian spin legend Harbhajan Singh has slammed the Mumbai Indians team support staff, including head coach Mahela Jayawardene, for 'interfering' after the five-time champions bowed out of the 2025 Indian Premier League with a five-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on Sunday.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer producing a chasing masterclass at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium to propel his team into an IPL final for the first time in 11 years, setting up a date with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit clash at the same venue on Tuesday.

MI, on the other hand, have now lost the penultimate match of the season for the second time in three years, having lost to Gujarat Titans at the same venue in 2023, and have not reached an IPL final since they won their fifth title in 2020.
'Coaches are telling a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah what to do'
In a video posted on his YouTube channel after Qualifier 2, Harbhajan – who had represented Mumbai Indians from the inaugural season in 2008 to 2017 and won three titles with them – directed his ire at the Jayawardene-led MI support staff for their behaviour during the game, stating that the team's performance was affected by 'too much involvement from the outside'.
'Look at the Mumbai Indians dugout. When they were leaking runs, there was too much involvement from the outside,' Harbhajan said in the video.
'The coaches are telling a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah what to do and what not. A dressing room needs to remain calm and composed. Coaches should only give advice. Don't show desperation. So somewhere I felt that when this happens way too much, it breaks the player's spirit,' he added.
Harbhajan added that skipper Pandya, former captain Rohit Sharma, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and others know what it takes to win matches and titles and urged the franchise to 'let them do what they need to do' instead of getting into micromanagement.
'Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, they are all big players. And when they are playing, let them do what they need to do to get the right result for the team. They have won many trophies together. They needed to be shown a lot more faith, but the coaching staff time and again was interfering and gesturing with their hands,' 'Bhajji' added in the video.

Sri Lankan batting legend and former captain Jayawardene had coached MI for six seasons from 2017 to 2022, helping them win three titles during this period, and returned to the franchise ahead of the 18th season, replacing legendary South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher who had occupied the role for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

He's the new Pandya on the block
A year ago, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium bore witness to the rise of young stars. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old prodigy from Bihar stunned the cricketing world with a fearless century against Australia Under-19, his array of strokes made people at the ground sit up and take notice and also garnered global attention. In the same series, away from the spotlight, a 17-year-old quietly made his mark. Calm, composed, and resilient—Nitya J. Pandya scored a steady 54 in the first 'Test' and a determined 94 in the second. Since then, Suryavanshi lit up the IPL playing for Rajasthan Royals, making waves across the country and beyond. For Nitya, Cooch Behar Trophy became his canvas—two double hundreds, two centuries, and the tournament's top run-scorer (881 runs in six matches). His reward — A place in Baroda's Ranji Trophy squad. Now, fate has brought him back to Chennai—the city that first embraced his talent. And once again, he has delivered: a match-defining 102 (first innings) and 54 against Odisha in the Buchi Babu tournament. In an exclusive interaction with The Hindu, Nitya expressed his joy at coming back to the city. 'It's a great feeling to be back here, this place is like home to me. The wickets in Chennai are very batting-friendly, but you still have to be disciplined and patient. That's what I've focused on'. Reflecting on his time during the 'Youth Test', he said, 'Playing against Australia was a huge moment. Representing your country is a privilege.' Nitya credited his coaches for helping him stay grounded and focused, 'My coaches, Digvijay Rathwa and Ketan Panchal, helped me work on the basics during the off-season. My Ranji coaches, Mukund (Parmar) sir and Arvind sir, were also very supportive. As for his ambition, 'I'm not chasing individual records, but yes, ultimately, I want to play Test cricket for India.'

After Online Gaming Bill, Dream11 Plans To Shut Real-Money Gaming Operations: Reports
New Delhi: Dream11, one of India's leading fantasy sports platforms, is reportedly shutting down its real-money gaming operations, as per various media reports. This major move comes in response to a new gaming bill introduced by the Indian government which effectively removes the legal foundation for paid fantasy sports in the country. New Law Bans Money-Based Online Games in India The Centre's Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025, recently passed by the Rajya Sabha, imposes a complete ban on all money-based online games, including fantasy sports, poker, and rummy. Only eSports and social gaming are allowed under the new law. Those who violate the rules could face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to Rs 1 crore. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source Dream11 Shifts Focus to New Opportunities As cited by Entrackr from another source, Dream11 is planning to move away from real-money gaming and expand into non-cash alternatives like Sportz Drip and Fancode. The company will also reportedly focus more on its other investments, such as Willow TV and Cricbuzz, along with exploring international market opportunities. What's in the Bill? The bill bans 'harmful' online money gaming services, along with any advertisements or financial transactions linked to them. The government cited the potential psychological harm caused by these platforms as a key reason behind the decision. In addition to banning online real-money gaming, the bill also aims to prohibit advertisements for these games and stops banks and financial institutions from processing or transferring funds related to them.
