Tributes have poured in from heartbroken fans, one wrote: "Very sad to hear the news… Biggest love to all." A second penned: "Can't believe this. Absolute genius on the guitar, Babyshambles were at their peak with Pat. But more importantly a genuine lovely guy. Down in Albion will always be a masterpiece to me."
A third typed: "Such a genius, made so much from his sound which meant Pete only had to sing live, which was difficult in them days considering it was also 50/50 if the shows even happened! Thanks for the music Pat, at least we'll always have that, and the greatest of memories...."
The band was formed 21 years ago and became Pete Doherty's main outlet for poetic yet chaotic rock after he was driven out of The Libertines. Babyshambles released their self-titled debut 7" in April that year.
By the summer, the group consisted of Pete, guitarist Patrick, bassist Drew McConnell, and drummer Gemma Clarke.
In 2005, they released their debut album, Down in Albion, which landed in the Top 10 of the Album Charts.

Katie Price reveals true love of her life and it's not one of her husbands

Katie Price has been married three times and has had a string of high-profile relationships, but she says there's only one man who has truly broken her heart Katie Price has confessed that the only man she ever truly loved was not one of her three husbands, but rather a former flame. The mum-of-five, who has had a series of failed marriages and relationships, revealed that it was Another Level star Dane Bowers who truly broke her heart. ‌ Speaking candidly about her tumultuous love life, the glamour icon admitted that Bowers, now 45, was the only one for her until he shattered her heart. Katie and Dane were an item from 1998 to 2000 before parting ways, a split that Katie described as the most difficult she's ever endured. ‌ Discussing Dane on her reality show, Katie Price: My Crazy Life, the OnlyFans star confessed that the singer left her "heartbroken badly", saying: "I've been hurt before. ‌ "I've been heartbroken badly, when I split from Dane. He was the only guy who completely taught me about having your heart broken. I've always said that Dane's the one who did that. "Because of Dane, he's made me have my barriers up and even with Pete, I'd like to say they all went down but there were a couple up still. Since splitting with Dane I have never let my barriers 100 per cent down with anyone. Being heartbroken, that hurt. It's not a nice feeling." Katie, who has been married to Peter Andre, Alex Reid, and Kieran Hayler, first met Dane at the premiere of the film Wild Wild West in 1999, where they immediately clicked. At the time, Dane had just gained fame for his hit Out of Your Mind, a collaboration with Victoria Beckham, which catapulted him into the limelight, reports the Mirror. Katie, just 18 at the time, had been building her career in the late '90s as a topless model going by the name Jordan. Her ascent to fame was meteoric, and before long she was appearing on the front pages of numerous lads' mags. ‌ However, the pair's romance was reportedly dogged by allegations of cheating and trust problems. Dane, who would go on to date Scots Love Island star Laura Anderson, was apparently initially attracted to Katie's glamour model persona. But her passion for being in the spotlight eventually became problematic. Katie's mum, Amy, revealed in her book, The Last Word, that Katie wasn't content in the romance and that Dane became "jealous of her career." Despite appearing to be in a blissful relationship, Katie once alleged that her boyfriend had been unfaithful to her. He has refuted these accusations. Speaking candidly on the Katie Price Show, she revealed: "He cheated on me bad. Oh my God, so bad." ‌ She alleged he had supposedly been disloyal with a dancer in Ibiza, with video evidence of the woman discussing Katie. She continued: "So I was trying to get this video and I got it. When Dane came back, because we lived together, I said 'Dane, just sit down, I've got something to show you'. "I put it on and said, 'So are you going to f***ing explain that then?' And he said 'Oh no', you know, denied it. And I just knew. Because then he went out with Sarah Bosnich, when he did the song with Victoria Beckham. ‌ "Suddenly I wasn't allowed to go away with them because there 'wasn't enough room'. Then he ended up with Sarah Bosnich, who was Victoria's friend. I've just been betrayed and lied to and everything." Following their acrimonious breakup, Katie reconciled with Dane and reconnected with the performer six years ago during an episode of her reality programme My Crazy Life. She popped into London nightclub Jakarta to show support for the vocalist's new group Boyz On Block after receiving an invitation from one of Dane's mates and was keen to have a word when she clocked him. With a mischievous sparkle in her eye, Katie cooed: "Come here, Dane." ‌ But he told her he was busy, with Katie moaning: "Dane's too busy for me again. It's like another level with Dane. I'm just hanging on the side, he's busy doing his thing." Nevertheless, she subsequently embraced him and remarked: "Oh Dane, how are you my darling? Do you know what's weird? You look older but it's still your eyes [look the same]. Isn't that weird?". She went on: "You was a really good singer and a really good dancer, why do you think I fell for you? When you was fat, you could dance. You was fat back in the day and I loved you when you were like that and you broke my heart." The star then addressed one of Dane's friends, and declared: "I loved him so much. He was the love of my life." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Christopher Biggins banned from driving at 76 as he's left feeling 'depressed'

Former I'm A Celeb and Big Brother star Christopher Biggins has been banned from driving as he hit out at the DVLA over the decision. Christopher Biggins has been hit with a driving ban by the DVLA, and is reportedly left feeling 'depressed' at the news he can no longer get behind the wheel. The 76-year-old was informed this year that his licence had lapsed and needed renewed. ‌ The former Big Brother star required an eye test, and, following an optician's appointment, Biggins found out he had failed the examination and had been prevented from driving with immediate effect. ‌ "Ten days later [after the eye test], I got a letter from the DVLA saying I had failed my test and I wouldn't be getting my licence back," he said. ‌ However following the news, as reported in the Mirror, Biggins arranged further eye tests as he consulted a doctor in an attempt to get behind the wheel again. After discussing the issue with a GP at Homerton hospital, they confirmed Biggins had a full bill of health before undertaking another eye test. Two doctors had supplied the TV icon with letters supporting their assessments of his health, which he forwarded to the DVLA. Unfortunately the regulatory body remained firm on their original decision not to return his licence and maintained that the medical evidence they had on record for him "does not show that you are able to meet the required medical standards for driving". Despite claims his eyesight had not deteriorated, he has hit out at the DVLA for leaving him feeling "depressed" and burdened with financial strain as he's left to pay for taxis and public transport. Expressing his frustrations to the Mail, Biggins said: "How can they disregard a hospital doctor and another optician? It has left me very depressed." ‌ He continued: "I travel a lot and I need to drive. Not long distance, for that I take the train. It is costing me a fortune in taxis. It is very unfair. I'm absolutely infuriated with their 'computer says no' attitude." Biggins also criticised the government's decision in requiring over 70s to undertake eye tests every three years in order to retain their licence, labelling the move as "disgraceful," and warning that thousands could risk losing their licences "unfairly". ‌ In response to this, a DVLA spokesperson commented: "While we cannot comment on individual cases, all drivers must meet minimum eyesight standards to drive a vehicle. Whether a driver meets the eyesight standards can be tested through various means, including visual field and acuity, depending on the circumstances. "These standards apply to all drivers and, if someone does not meet the required standards, they cannot be allowed on the road."

BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Motsi Mabuse opens up on 'terrifying' racial abuse

Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has candidly opened up on her horrifying experiences of racial abuse Strictly Come Dancing star Motsi Mabuse has candidly opened up on her horrifying experiences of racial abuse during her younger years in South Africa. Ahead of the BBC dance series returning next month, the judge discussed her past. ‌ Motsi, who is often mistaken for sister Oti Mabuse, also a former Strictly star, has served as part of the judging panel on Strictly since 2019. after taking over from Dame Darcey Bussell. ‌ Speaking in a candid chat to the Mirror, Motsi revealed: "I lived under apartheid until the age of nine, a very scary time. We lived in a Black-only suburb and I didn't speak English when I first went to school. ‌ "We went to a Catholic school and Black children were a minority. One of the nuns would call us 'Black witches' and hit us. I was terrified." Motsi began dancing at the age of just six years old, securing a place in the national championship in 1998 at the tender age of only 17. The following year, she met her dance partner and first husband in Blackpool. She started a new chapter in Europe, competing in ballroom championships and achieving recognition in Germany. However, she admitted the industry put excessive pressure on her to stay incredible slim. Motsi confessed: "There's so much focus on what you weigh. A teacher once told me to lose weight when I was 50 kilos [7st 12lb]. "My body's changed since, my weight goes up and down. But a healthy mind, body and soul is more important than being thin." ‌ Meanwhile, her sister Oti Mabuse has faced her own mental health challenges over the years following her exit from Strictly. Despite being a fan favourite and winning with Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher and comedian Bill Bailey, she admitted there were times the immense challenge of the programme left her unable to eat and crying in the shower. However her dancer husband Marius Lepure was there for support. Despite doubters questioning the professional dancer's choice, she says she has no regrets and has built an incredibly successful television career since. ‌ Oti previously told the All Change podcast: "Luckily my husband again has been an amazing person who has seen the dark days, the days where I'm in the shower crying with my clothes on because it's so hard and it's so overwhelming. "He's seen me not eat, he's seen me overeat, he's seen me struggle with not being able to get the best out of someone. He's seen me having to deal with 'interesting personalities.' So, he's the person that's seen the behind the scenes at the point where I'd got to where I was like: 'I think I'm finished.' He was like: 'Yeah'." Oti said she knew her departure came as a shock to Strictly fans, adding: "I came from the biggest show on television. Every single human being on this planet, in this country, loves Strictly. People are obsessed. When you come from there, you are with that group, then when you decide you're going to leave it's like: 'What? What do you mean?' I was met with a lot of: 'Why would you leave? You're happy, you're at the top of your professional game, you professional game, you won the show?'"
