Dehradun: Chief minister (CM)
Pushkar Singh Dhami
participated in the 25th meeting of the central zonal council in Varanasi on Tuesday, chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah. During the meeting, Dhami emphasised Uttarakhand's strategic significance due to its location adjacent to international borders and highlighted several key issues related to the state.
Dhami sought the centre's assistance for establishing a high-level glacier study centre to assess the impacts of climate change. He also requested technical support for setting up a biodiversity conservation institute and help in creating an international adventure sports training centre, citing the state's strong potential for adventure tourism.
Furthermore, he urged the central govt to support the organisation of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra in 2026 and the Kumbh Mela in 2027.

The CM pointed out that roughly 80% of the state's terrain is mountainous and 71% is forested, making economic activities challenging due to complex geography and vulnerability to natural disasters. In this context, he requested relaxation of certain policy provisions in the state's favour. He advocated for a lump-sum allocation of central grants under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and additional support for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

He also called upon Shah to extend greater support to the state through the Border Roads Organization. Additionally, he requested the development of facilities in border villages under the Vibrant Village Programme to curb migration and sought the initiation of communication services, including BharatNet, 4G expansion and satellite-based services in these areas.
Dhami said that earlier meetings of the council have paved the way for resolving many critical policy and inter-state issues. "Significant work is being done in the areas of cooperation, security and regional coordination across the country," he added.
The meeting was attended by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai and other senior ministers.

A dedicated link for activation of the annual pass is available on the Rajmarg Yatra app . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More The link would also be available on the official websites of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ( MoRTH ). The annual pass will be applicable only for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It will allow seamless travel across National Highways without the need for repeated recharging of FASTag cards for toll payments. Live Events In closed tolling highways such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway - where toll collection occurs exclusively at exit points - a single trip includes both entry and exit points. On the other hand, on open tolling routes like Delhi-Chandigarh, each toll plaza crossing would constitute a separate trip. The pass can be recharged again once the 200-trip limit in a year is reached. According to the MoRTH, those who already have a FASTag on their vehicles will not need to purchase a new FASTag. The annual pass will be valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) fee plazas. At fee plazas on Expressways, State Highways (SH) managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag will operate as a regular one, and applicable user fee charges may apply. FASTag - the electronic toll collection system - uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically deduct toll charges from a prepaid account linked to the vehicle. Over 10.1 crore FASTags were issued till December 1, 2024, according to the road transport ministry's 2024 year-end review.
