Two suspects in custody following standoff on I-35 in Johnson County
Ofc. Danny Chavez with the Lenexa Police Department tells FOX4 the incident started as a theft case at the QuikTrip at 95th Street, near I-35.
Chavez said the suspects failed to stop for officers and got on I-35. They eventually came to a stop but refused to get out of the car, creating a standoff.
The incident closed down northbound I-35, just before 67th Street.

The two suspects were later taken into custody and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
No injuries have been reported.

Abandoned puppy found in Mass. euthanized, police investigate as animal cruelty
Police have been investigating an animal cruelty case in which two puppies were found abandoned in Randolph earlier this month, according to police. One of the puppies was in such bad condition that veterinarians decided to euthanize it. On the evening of Aug. 1, a passerby found two puppies abandoned along a walkway between the Martin E. Young Elementary School on Lou Courtney Drive and Barbara Road, Randolph police said in a press release. The passerby quickly notified police, and the puppies — a male and female around 11 weeks old — were immediately taken to VCA Weymouth. 'Unfortunately, shortly after arrival, it was determined that due to the extent of the condition of the male puppy, the most compassionate recourse was to provide him with a peaceful passing,' police wrote. Randolph police are now asking the public to help them identify 'the individual(s) responsible for dumping these helpless dogs,' the police department wrote. Investigators believe the suspects are likely basement breeders who live in Randolph or a neighboring community. The puppies are of mixed breed — possibly some sort of shepherd or hound mix — and have 'a distinct black tail,' police said. The female puppy is not currently up for adoption. Randolph police are asking anyone who thinks they may have seen suspicious activity in the area on or around Aug. 1 or who knows of home breeders in the area that breed similar dogs to contact them. Those with information about the case are asked to call Detective Kevin Aldred at 781-963-1212, police said. Woman hospitalized, Chihuahua killed in off-leash dog attack at Lawrence park
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lawrence police are investigating a dog attack after a woman was injured and her Chihuahua was killed by an unleashed dog on Sunday. According to a , at about 2 p.m., officers were called to Centennial Skate Park on reports of a dog attack. The other two dogs were not harmed. When police arrived, they found the woman suffering from a severe bite wound to her arm, a broken finger, and several other minor wounds. Her pet Chihuahua was killed in the attack. Police said they found the attack dog pinned down by men who had been witnesses to the attack. Officers then created a makeshift muzzle to control the dog and took it away from the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with one of her dogs, police said. The other dog had run off during the attack but was later found by law enforcement and returned home. The dog that initiated the attack was taken to the Humane Society, as well as the deceased Chihuahua. Investigations are ongoing, police said. How to prevent, stop a dog attack FOX4 spoke with Dr. Melia Washington, chief veterinarian at Pet Resource Center of KC. She shared the following tips to prevent and stop a dog attack: Loud noise/auditory stimulus (yelling in a deep voice, clapping, foghorn) Bite stick Pepper spray 'The first step would be obviously getting their attention,' she said. 'You can do that in various ways…yelling, clapping. 'We always had milk jugs with rocks in them. So just like shaking something, just a weird sound.' She also said the tone of your voice makes a huge difference, so you want to yell in a deep and assertive tone. Bite sticks are also a great way to stop a dog attack. 'The other thing is a bite stick,' Dr. Washington said. 'You can use the bite stick to stick in their mouth and pry their mouth open.' Pepper spray is also good to carry, she said. One person injured in Kansas City shooting near 99th, Holmes
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) is investigating a shooting at the intersection of 99th Street and Holmes Road on Wednesday afternoon. According to KCPD, officers were sent to the area around 5 p.m., where they would find a man suffering from gunshot wounds upon arrival.
