A total of 9,200 students in the provinces of Capiz, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental received complete school supplies from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to '24 Oras" Friday, Capiz is known as the seafood capital of the country, where the lives of many residents revolve around the sea.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Roberto S. Benedicto, La Carlota, Negros Occidental, several young individuals who are passionate about sports also dream of earning a college diploma. Some of these students have even competed in tennis at the Palarong Pambansa.
Eight-year-old Zander, for instance, hopes to secure a sports scholarship for college, which would greatly assist his family, particularly his father, who works at a sugar mill.
'Nagagamit talaga nila ito sa kanilang pag-aaral kasi libre ang pag-aaral nila. Ngayon, may mga apat na player ako andiyan sa college sa Bacolod. Free tuition,' said Capt. Atet Guba, Brgy. Roberto S. Benedicto, La Carlota, Negros Occidental.
As part of GMA Kapuso Foundation's 'Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan' project, 9,200 Kinder and Grade 1 students in Capiz, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental received complete sets of school supplies.
'Nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa mga bata. Mga gastos ng mga magulang para sa supplies, puwede nang magastos sa ibang pangangailangan,' Roel Bermejo, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Capiz, said.
'Karamihan sa mga magulang ay financially hard-up kasi off-season ngayon ng milling. Malaki talaga ang naitulong,' said Jen-Ann V. Rosal, EdD, CSE, OIC Assistant Schools Superintendent, La Carlota DepEd.

7 rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms in Pililla, Rizal now ready for use

Seven newly rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms at the Virgilio B. Melendres Memorial Elementary School in Pililla, Rizal, are now ready for use. According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, GMA Kapuso Foundation first built the seven Kapuso classrooms in the school in 2010 after it was devastated by Typhoon Ondoy. The Kapuso classrooms, however, were devastated in 2024 following the onslaught of super typhoon Carina and tropical storm Enteng. The classrooms, now restored and made even stronger, are ready to be used, with Kindergarten student Grey among the many learners who will get to experience them. "Binuhusan natin 'yung corridor sa likod. At the same time, nilagyan natin ng kanal para 'yung tubig ma-divert siya hindi papunta sa classroom, papunta na siya palabas dito sa school," said GMA Kapuso Foundation supervising engineer Arnel Zantua. New armchairs and teachers' desks were also installed in Kapuso classrooms. A smart TV was likewise donated to the school, and rice and food were distributed to the students. GMA Kapuso Foundation advocate Patricia Tumulak was among those who took part in the initiative. "Sana ganahan sila mag-aral kasi sa pamamagitan ng pag-aaral nang mabuti diyan tayo aahon sa kahirapan at kaagapay ninyo ang GMA Kapuso Foundation at ang mga donors at sponsors nito," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP/COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. 3,000 students in Camarines Sur receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Three thousand students in Libmanan, Canaman, and Magarao in Camarines Sur received school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project. According to "24 Oras" Monday, among those who benefited from the project are Leizel Porsona's children, who walk almost two hours to get to school from their house in Sitio Canamoan. This route, which passes through a mountain in their area, is the fastest way to school. "Grabe po kasi mga kagubatan po, makahoy. [Nakakapagod] po pero konting tiyaga lang po para po makapagtapos po sila sa pag-aaral kahit na mahirap," said Liezel. Her younger children in kindergarten and second grade have been using hand-me-down items from their older siblings for school. Liezel's husband, who works as a carpenter, also only earns P350 a day, an amount they try to budget as they prepare for the birth of their youngest. GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed the school supplies to various schools in Libmanan, Canaman, and Magarao that were heavily affected by flooding caused by Typhoon Kristine back in October 2024, with a total of 3,000 students benefiting from the project. "Kapag may mga bagong gamit ang mga bata, na-i-inspire silang pumasok, lubos po ang aming pasasalamat sa inyo kasi kami ay napili niyo na bigyan ng mga school supplies para sa mga bata. Malaking tulong sa mga magulang, sa paaralan, sa mga guro," said Gina Arroyo, principal of Mambulo Nuevo Elementary School. For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee.
