'Islands' is Gerster's English-language debut, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with Blaz Kutin and Lawrie Doran. The film was developed and produced by Maximilian Leo and Jonas Katzenstein for augenschein Filmproduktion. It is co-produced by Leonine Studios and Schiwago Film. Leonine will also distribute the film in Germany in May 2025.
'Jan-Ole has created an incredibly tense and taut thriller that our international partners agree will captivate audiences worldwide,' said Protagonist Pictures' acting senior vice president of sales, Sarah Lebutsch. 'The quality of this group of top tier distributors is a testament to the global appeal of the film, and the undeniable talent in front of and behind the camera.'
Shot on location in the Canary Islands, the film follows Tom, (Riley) a tennis coach at a luxurious island hotel, filling the time between lessons and one-night stands. The arrival of a mysterious family pulls Tom out of his normal routing as he strikes up a relationship with Anne (Martin), her husband Dave (Farthing) and their son Anton (Dylan Torrell). Tom is unable to shake the feeling that he has met Anne before, and the tension grows between them until one night Dave goes missing and the police suspect Tom and Anne.
'Islands' received four nominations at the prestigious Lola Awards — the German equivalent of the Oscars — including Best Picture, Best Leading Actor, Best Original Music and Best Sound. In his Berlinale review Variety's Peter Debruge described it as 'mesmerizing' and highlighted Martin and Riley's lead performances.

Police investigating Strictly 'drug use' claims

The Metropolitan Police has said it is investigating allegations of drug use on Strictly Come Dancing. In a statement, the Met said it had "received an allegation about drug related offences". "Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed," it said. The BBC said it had "clear protocols and policies in place" for dealing with any serious complaints raised with it. The Met's involvement comes after the the BBC launched an investigation earlier this month into alleged drug use by two stars of the show, who have not been named. It followed a report in the Sun on Sunday, which said the alleged drug use by the stars was widely talked about on the show. BBC News understands the corporation has hired a law firm to help it carry out the probe. On Sunday, the Sun reported that the BBC had referred the matter to police. A Met spokesperson later confirmed that the force had "received an allegation about drug related offences" on Tuesday 12 August. The BBC said it would not comment on any police investigation. But it highlighted a previous statement which read: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. "We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." Strictly, which has been airing since 2004, has faced multiple controversies over the past few years relating to the behaviour of some of its professionals and celebrity guests. It is believed, however, that this is the first time the BBC has been in contact with the police over allegations linked to the show.

Greenock Rock Choir returns home on a high after Edinburgh Fringe show

GREENOCK Rock Choir members have returned home on a high after performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. Singers from Inverclyde took to the stage in the country's capital earlier this month to perform at the world-renowned arts festival in front of a packed crowd with some of the members singing at the event for the first time. The choir performed a 45-minute set full of 'smash-hit' songs from across all of the decades, arranged in the Rock Choir's signature style which has been entertaining crowds since 2005. (Image: Rock Choir) Inverclyde 'Rockies' joined nearly 2,400 members from 40 choirs across the UK, including groups from Helensburgh, Houston, Paisley, and Hamilton with this year being the sixth time the Rock Choir have taken to the Edinburgh stage. Rock Choir leader Jen Bonnar said: 'I couldn't be prouder of my choirs - performing at three different venues, including a sold-out show at the Space Triplex, at the Edinburgh Fringe, drawing huge crowds at each and soaking up the city's electric atmosphere. 'With Oasis in town that night, singing Roll With It felt like our own little rock 'n' roll moment.' 'On the coach home, our driver casually mentioned he was a huge Oasis fan - so naturally, the whole choir burst into Roll With It just for him. 'He was grinning from ear to ear, filming the moment on his phone like it was his own private gig. 'It was the perfect end to an incredible day." Sarah Jessica Parker Let Slip a Rare Secret About Carrie Bradshaw's Fashion Archive

Sarah Jessica Parker has finally admitted what many fans suspected: Carrie Bradshaw's closet isn't just collecting dust. Every once in a while, Parker has dipped back into her character's iconic fashion archive — but only under very specific circumstances. In a new interview with People, Parker revealed she once pulled a look straight from the archive to attend a birthday party in England. 'I just did it,' she said with a laugh. 'It's one of the few occasions I've ever pulled from the archive for personal use… It's not every day.' More from SheKnows Sarah Jessica Parker's Poetic Goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw Comes With Baggage That 'not every day' qualifier is important. Parker, 60, explained she's far from casual about raiding Bradshaw's wardrobe, even when tempted. 'What would the circumstances and the environment be that I would be wearing this, and would it be okay and safe, or would it be destroyed?' she said. 'I'm very judicious about that.' It's a rare glimpse into how seriously Parker treats the character she's played for nearly three decades. From Sex and the City's debut in 1998 through the finale of And Just Like That earlier this month, Carrie's clothes have been as central to the story as the breakups and the brunches. And unlike most TV wardrobes, Parker didn't let them disappear. In a 2021 Vogue interview, she revealed: 'I had all of the original stuff in my own storage. Furniture, clothes, everything, packed according to season and episode and scene. I kept every single solitary thing.' That kind of devotion has allowed Carrie's tutu, Manolos, and nameplate necklace to live on long after the show itself. It also blurs the line between actress and character. As Parker admitted in June, she does share some of Carrie's affection for fashion, even if hers is 'less fevered' than the columnist's. Now, with And Just Like That closing its run, Parker's disclosure feels especially poignant. Borrowing from the archive isn't just about convenience — it's about honoring a character who shaped her life and career. As she wrote in her Instagram farewell to Carrie earlier this month: 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.'Best of SheKnows 20 Times Madonna Reinvented Fashion at the VMAs The Best Photos of Madonna & Lookalike Daughter Lourdes Through The Years 22 Famous Women Who Have Played Roxie in Chicago on Broadway Solve the daily Crossword
