Huge turnout for Leeds Pride as rain fails to spoil party mood
Thousands of people defied the downpours to take part in Leeds Pride this vibrant annual festival, which celebrates LGBTQ+ life, was held in the city centre on Sunday. Despite the miserable weather, there were smiles everywhere as huge numbers turned out to watch the parade make its way across The Headrow amid a party atmosphere. Several people who attended claimed Leeds had one of the best Pride festivals. One woman, who went to the celebration with her partner and her partner's daughter, said: "Leeds Pride is one of my favourite Prides and I've been to a lot of them."I like the family feel about this place. It keeps me coming back every year and I'm really excited to be here. "Despite the rain the atmosphere feels like it's buzzing." Pride's distinctive rainbow colours, music, dancing and drag queens all formed part of the fun at the festival, which was first held in Leeds in 2006. Another woman who attended said: "My son came out as gay one-and-a-half years ago, so I wanted to be here for him and to celebrate equality for everyone."It's amazing. I'm absolutely loving it!"Nazir Uddin, who is originally from Bangladesh, said he had to hide his sexuality until he came to the UK. He said: "It is illegal to be homosexual in my country."It's not just Bangladesh, there are still 64 countries where it's still illegal, so I'm here to represent all of those who are still hiding their sexuality."I never experienced this (Pride) back home, so it's like heaven for me and I feel very safe here." See 6 pictures from this year's Glasgow Pride march
Despite weather warnings, the country's largest city was awash with vibrant colour as attendees marched from Kelvingrove to the Barrowlands, where a free festival was held afterwards. Amongst the marchers was Still Game's Greg Hemphill, as well as hosts Bev Lyons, Miss Bella Houston, Lee Cammy and Garry King. (Image: Craig McConnell/Catching Light Photography)One TikTok user posted a clip of Hemphill waving a pride flag with an audio from an infamous episode of Still Game, where Isa says "Jack and Victor are gay, I saw it with my own eyes". Though Katie Price, one of the main acts who was set to perform at the event, pulled out at the last minute, entertainment included comedian Karen Dunbar, Eurovision acts including Subwoolfer and Miriana Conte, as well as dance musician Kelly Llorenna. (Image: Craig McConnell/Catching Light Photography) Amid a scaling back of transgender rights, attendees still marched with pride despite comments from Kate Barker, chief executive of LGB Alliance, who said Pride had "become hijacked by gender identity ideology". (Image: Craig McConnell/Catching Light Photography)With Pride having started as a political protest, that spirit was still alive in Glasgow as marchers showed solidarity with Palestinians (above). In May, a row broke out over Glasgow Pride working with organisations such as JP Morgan Chase, who have a presence in Israel. Campaign group No Pride In Genocide criticised the move whilst urging Glasgow Pride to express "solidarity" with the "most marginalised in our community, with a focus on trans rights". In response, the company highlighted that Saturday's event had "no sponsors", that it 'actively support[s]' trans people and said it would 'fight for their safety and rights". (Image: Craig McConnell/Catching Light Photography) This year's march had a number of high-profile corporate partners, including First Bus (pictured above), Tesco, Sky and Auchentoshan Distillery. Katie Price pulls out of Glasgow Pride gig just hours before being due to perform
Katie Price left her fans disappointed as she pulled out of a scheduled public appearance with just hours to go before she was due on stage at the event Katie Price left her fans disappointed after she dropped out of a public appearance at the last minute. The former glamour model was scheduled to attend Glasgow Pride on Saturday, July 19, but backed out of the event due to "another urgent obligation." Katie, 47, was slated to appear alongside headliners Miriana Conte, Subwoolfer, Kelly Llorenna and Karen Dunbar at the bash. But she decided against making the trip to Scotland for an as yet undisclosed reason. The cancellation comes just weeks after Katie and her close friend and former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona pulled out of another PA when they were due to headline Barnsley Pride. They cancelled that appearance due to "unforeseen circumstances" and "personal reasons," with an explanation in full not given. An announcement shared to the Glasgow Pride Instagram account on Saturday confirmed that Katie was no longer going to be attending the event, as organisers wrote, "Unfortunately, Katie Price is not able to attend Glasgow's Pride 2025 due to another urgent obligation. But we do have a message for those who attend Pride!" They then revealed that the event would go ahead hosted by "Showbiz Lion Bev Lyons. Glasgow's own Queen, Miss Bella Houston. And introducing the brilliant Lee Cammy and Garry King!" Fans however were not impressed and took to the comments section of the post to share their dismay. One wrote, "Oh I'm not going now, Katie price isn't there," as a second questioned, "Is Katie price not going anymore??" A third attendee slammed the reasoning as they posted, "Urgent obligation' what a load of bs," while another social media user quipped, "WHERE IS MS PRICE GONE?" Attendees of Barnsley Pride faced the same disappointment when Katie and Kerry pulled out with a Facebook post reading, "We sincerely apologise to all our visitors who are looking forward to joining us for our Barnsley Pride 2025 events. "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Katie Price will no longer be headlining our Funny Gals Main Stage / After Dark Official Pride Afterparty. We want to make it clear that this is beyond our control and that we are genuinely disappointed, as we were very excited to have her as part of our line-up of amazing acts." The organiser's statement continued, "Additionally, the original headliner, Kerry Katona, also had to cancel due to personal reasons. The entire team here at Funny Gals shares in this disappointment, and we deeply regret any inconvenience or disappointment caused." Back in May Katie and Kerry also cancelled their entire "tell all" tour, which had been scheduled to visit venues around the UK. An Evening With Katie Price & Kerry Katona was given the axe when Katie was reportedly prevented from committing due to her "busy schedule." A source told The Sun, "Katie is gutted and tried everything she could to make it work but she has had to step away from the tour because she has childcare commitments and also a very busy schedule."
