BBFL × WaRLock Collaboration Launches: Japanese-American Hybrid Fashion to the World
From Brooklyn to the globe—BBFL × WaRLock's transnational vision comes to life through runway shows and exhibitions in New York.
BROOKLYN, NY, UNITED STATES, May 13, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- The highly anticipated collaboration between Brooklyn-based cultural hub BBFL (Brooklyn Beauty/Fashion Labo) and Japanese fashion brand WaRLock officially launched in April 2025, marking a new chapter in cross-cultural creative development between Japan and the United States.
On April 13, BBFL × WaRLock unveiled their latest collection during the runway show presented by BK Style Foundation as part of the Brooklyn × Japan Festival, an event hosted by BBFL, attracting widespread attention from both the public and media.
Following the successful collaboration launch, Takeshi Oda, CEO of Odasho Co., Ltd., the parent company of WaRLock, shared his enthusiasm:
'After the successful launch of this collaboration, we're already preparing to present a new joint collection this fall—along with a deeper introduction of Japanese entertainment culture to the world.'
Following the runway show, an immersive kimono exhibition opened at Globus Washitsu in Manhattan and ran through April 29. The exhibition showcased not only BBFL × WaRLock's innovative designs but also introduced works by WAFRICA, a brand that masterfully blends traditional Japanese kimono aesthetics with African textiles. The show received enthusiastic acclaim from visitors, offering them a unique opportunity to explore hybrid identities and cross-cultural narratives in fashion.
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the generous support of Stephan Globus, who provided the space at Globus Washitsu to host this one-of-a-kind cultural experience. The event was curated by Spree Kingyo and Maria Stewart, both of whom offered deep insights into the fusion of traditions and modernity throughout the collection.
The Contemporary Japanese Folk Collective (CJFC) also joined the festival to showcase their creative interpretations, adding a unique dimension to the event and highlighting the fusion of traditional and contemporary fashion elements.
About BBFL:
Based in Park Slope, Brooklyn (300 7th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215), non-profit organization J-COLLABO opened the acclaimed 'Brooklyn Beauty/Fashion Labo' in June 2024. This initiative is developed and operated in collaboration with multiple Japanese and American companies under the newly established joint venture BBFL Sustainable LLC. As a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and creative research, Brooklyn Beauty/Fashion Labo has quickly become a focal point for cross-cultural innovation and artistic collaboration between the two nations.

Iconic Glasgow band share heartbreaking news just months before Hydro shows
An iconic Glasgow band has shared heartbreaking news with fans, revealing that one of their founding members is "seriously ill" just months before their scheduled hometown shows. Deacon Blue announced on social media that keyboardist Jim Prime has been hospitalised after falling unwell. The 64-year-old musician helped form the band in 1985 alongside Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Ewen Vernal, and the late Graeme Kelling. READ MORE: Ricky Ross shared adorable picture of wife in touching post Details about Prime's condition have not been released, but the band confirmed he has given them his blessing to continue with their scheduled tour, which concludes with two nights at Glasgow's OVO Hydro this October. In a heartfelt statement, the band wrote: "Dear friends, "We want to share some news with you about our brother Jim. "Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him. "We spoke to Jim yesterday about Deacon Blue's plans for the rest of the year, and he encouraged us to continue with love in our hearts and with his full blessing that the shows go ahead even if it means replacing the irreplacable Jame Miller Prime for the time being. "Together with Jim's family, we want to thank all nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and comapssion. "With love, Ricky, Lorraine, Dougie, Gregor, Lewis and Tom." Fans flooded the comment section following the sad update sharing their well wishes for Jim. One fan wrote: "Wishing Jim a speedy recovery and you all safe travels on your musical journeys." Another commented: "Oh Jim! Guys, I'm praying for him and for you all during this horribly uncertain time. Jim = legend." A third added: "Sending prayers and healing wishes to you, Jim. "Stay positive and do as the medical staff tells you! We look forward to seeing you tinkling the ivories when you're ready." The Glasgow-based band will perform two major shows at the OVO Hydro on Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, 2025, as part of their Deacon Blue: The Great Western Road Trip tour. Tickets are available now, ranging from £45 to £75. READ MORE: Last year, the Glasgow Times reported that the band's latest album will pay tribute to the city's iconic Great Western Road. Founding members Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh discussed the project during an appearance on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2. Ricky, 66, said: "We are in the middle of making a record. We will be bringing it out on March 21, 2025 (and it) is called The Great Western Road. "Great Western Road leads from the city centre through the West End of Glasgow, which is a really cool and trendy part - and I always thought that for a certain time we owned that. It was the place we wanted to be and we seemed part of it for about two months in 1987. "The band would meet at a bar called Chimmy Chungas, and it was the gang headquarters of Deacon Blue - that's what Great Western Road was for me." At the time, the duo also shared that Deacon Blue will perform a mix of intimate theatre shows and larger arena dates across the UK. When Zoe Ball asked about the difference between theatres and big venues, Lorraine joked: 'Yes, they are terrifying.' Tickets for the Glasgow shows will go on general sale at 10am on November 29, 2024. To book tickets, visit:

Gkids Acquires Multiple Territories For Japanese Action Sci-Fi Animated Feature ‘All You Need Is Kill'
EXCLUSIVE: Gkids has acquired multiple territories for Japanese animated action sci-fi drama All You Need Is Kill, including for North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The movie is based on the eponymous best-selling novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka which also inspired Doug Liman's 2014 live-action adaptation Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. More from Deadline Laika Signs 'Corpse Bride' & 'Frankenweenie' Screenwriter John August To Write Stop-Motion Teen Missing Mother Drama For Pete Candeland 'The Cat In The Hat' Team Defend Warners' Decision To Shelve 'Coyote Vs. Acme': "We Are Lucky To Do Art In Our Profession But We Can't Lock Ourselves In A Basement" 'Arcane' Showrunner Christian Linke On Exploring Character Relationships & Artistic "Extremes" For Season 2 The directorial debut of Kenichiro Akimoto, with a script written by Yuichiro Kido, the new animated adaptation world premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival earlier this week in the Midnight Specials section. All You Need Is Kill is produced by Warner Bros. Japan with animation production by celebrated Japanese animation house Studio 4°C (Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game). Studio 4°C, which is also at Annecy this year with Yasuhiro Aoki's drama ChaO in the main competition, will be hosting a studio presentation at the festival on Friday, in the presence of the directors and producers for both titles. Set in the near future, All You Need Is Kill follows the story of Rita, a resourceful but isolated young woman volunteering to help rebuild Japan after the mysterious appearance of a massive alien flower known as 'Darol.' When Darol unexpectedly erupts in a deadly event, unleashing monstrous creatures that decimate the population, Rita is caught in the destruction—and killed. But then she wakes up again. And again. Caught in an endless time loop, Rita must navigate the trauma and repetition of death until she crosses paths with Keiji, a shy young man trapped in the same cycle. Together, they fight to break free from the loop and find meaning in the chaos around them. 'With All You Need Is Kill, I wanted to convey that even in the endless loop of life, we can still make discoveries and grow, depending on how we perceive the situation,' said Akimoto. 'All You Need Is Kill is a standout work that explores time, identity, and survival with breathtaking animation and a powerful emotional core,' said Gkids President Dave Jesteadt. 'The story has remained so meaningful for years because it captures something essential about the human condition, and the need to keep moving forward. Director Akimoto has created a brilliant new take that we are sure fans will love.' Gkids and Studio 4°C have previously collaborated on releases for Mind Game, Children of the Sea, while Gkids also recently acquired ChaO, and several other celebrated titles. Further details on the release will be announced at a later date. The deal was negotiated between GKIDS' Director of Acquisitions and Development Rodney Uhler, and Warner Bros. Japan.
