Matt Hodgson, from Heathfield, is taking part in the four-dog class in Östersund in Sweden on Friday aiming for his seventh world title. He became the UK's first ever on-snow world champion in 2023. "There are some very strong Norwegian competitors who get a lot more snow to practice on than I do in Sussex."He added: "I've always had a love of arctic dogs, ever since as a boy reading books such as The Call of the Wild by Jack London."Just over 20 years ago I attended my first sled dog race in the New Forest and shortly afterwards acquired my first sled dog, an Alaskan Malamute I called Ranger."
More than 150 competitors from 22 countries plus 1,000 sled dogs are set to compete over three days. Mr Hodgson said: "Having dogs as your team mates creates a super special bond."You have to not only be their trainer, you're their psychologist, nutritionist, team mate and manager. As a purely amateur sport, there is no prize money involved.

Derek McInnes eyes stunning Kilmarnock reunion at Hearts as Jambos close in on signing
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HEARTS are closing in on a deal to bring a one-cap Scotland international to Tynecastle. Derek McInnes worked with him at Kilmarnock and is keen to link up with him again at Hearts this summer. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Derek McInnes has a number of signings in his sight Credit: PA 2 He wants to reunite with one of his ex-Killie stars Credit: Kenny Ramsay Stuart Findlay, 29, is set to return to Scotland again to join his fifth SPFL club. The towering centre-back started his career at Celtic as a youngster before heading down south to join Newcastle in 2016 - after loan spells at Morton, Dumbarton and Killie. He played a key role in McInnes' side for two campaigns at Rugby Park, albeit on the sidelines for a large part of last season. His absence proved to be a real issue for McInnes as his Killie backline struggled without him. He still made 23 appearances in all competitions for the club despite missing five months of action with an ankle injury. The left-footed defender is currently at Oxford City and has one year left on his deal down south. It's believed the English side are demanding a six-figure transfer fee to allow him to depart 12 months early. A loan deal is another possibility should they fail to agree a fee. But talks have been progressing well, with McInnes eager to get his business done early. Hearts players are due back on June 20 for pre-season and the former Killie and Aberdeen boss still hopes to add to his squad before then. Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes gives the inside story of his management career in part 1 of exclusive interview He's already snapped up four players - Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek winger Alexanderos Kyziridis, Belgian striker Elton Kabangu and Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee. The Edinburgh Evening News also claim the Jambos are nearing a deal for Portuguese striker Claudio Braga. It's said the 25-year-old cost in excess of £400,000 from Norwegian second-tier side Aalesund FK. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Stuart Findlay set for Hearts transfer with Oxford talks progressing as part of planned double swoop
McInnes made Findlay a top transfer priority soon after making the move from Kilmarnock and a deal is likely to be done Stuart Findlay is set to join Hearts as talks with Oxford United progress over the defender. Record Sport revealed that new boss Derek McInnes wanted Findlay to join him at Tynecastle as a matter of priority after making the move from Kilmarnock. Scotland international Findlay has spent the last two season on loan at Rugby Park from Oxford, where he still has another year left on his contract. However, Hearts have entered negotiations with the Championship club over a deal for Findlay and he is expected to be confirmed as a Hearts player before the start of pre-season training next week. McInnes has previously hailed Findlay's impact for Killie, not just with his own performances, but on those around him. He said: "There's no doubt having Stuart Findlay back has been massive for us. He doesn't always catch the eye, and he's not exactly dribbling out and making chances and all the rest of it, but he's such a calming influence. 'That ability for a centre-half to make people round about them better is a dying art, because so many boys now just want to play their own game and look after themselves, but he does it in such a quiet effective way.' The Jambos are also progressing a deal for Portuguese striker Claudio Bravo. Around £400,000 is expected to be enough to tempt Norwegian second-tier side Aalesund FK into selling the 25-year-old, who still has 18 months left on his contract. Hearts officials are working to finalise at least two more new signings before the first-team squad report to Riccarton for pre-season training. With players due back on 20 June, moves are afoot to recruit another striker and a centre-back. Four players have already agreed deals at Tynecastle Park ahead of the new season - Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek winger Alexanderos Kyziridis, Belgian striker Elton Kabangu and Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee. The Edinburgh News can reveal detailed talks have taken place between Hearts and the Oxford United defender Stuart Findlay. A Scotland international centre-back, Findlay played on loan at Kilmarnock for the last two seasons under Derek McInnes - who has since taken charge in Gorgie and wants the player with him. All parties are willing for the move to happen, although negotiations are still ongoing. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Findlay, 29, made 23 appearances for Kilmarnock last season despite being sidelined for five months with an ankle injury. He is a left-footed central defender previously on the books at Celtic, Newcastle United and Philadelphia Union. Capped by Scotland in 2019, he is a player McInnes knows and trusts. Finances for the deal are still being discussed and talks have been encouraging so far. A six-figure transfer fee is required to release Findlay from his Oxford contract, which runs until summer 2026. Hearts are also progressing towards a deal for the Portuguese striker Claudio Braga. He will cost in excess of £400,000 from the Norwegian second-tier side Aalesund FK. A 25-year-old strong and mobile striker, Braga's contract in Norway runs until December 2026. He is seen as a versatile forward who would bring different attributes to the Tynecastle attack next season. Lawrence Shankland's Hearts future and West Brom transfer interest Aalesund are eight games into their 2025 league campaign and are reluctant to lose Braga right now. Hearts want him as soon as possible to integrate him into McInnes' new-look squad for season 2025/26. The Edinburgh News revealed last month that a new striker was one of the club's priorities during the summer transfer window. That remains the case regardless of where captain Lawrence Shankland's future lies. The Scotland internationalist was on honeymoon recently after marrying his long-term fiancé, Nicole, and is due to decide his next move. His Hearts contract expires this week and English clubs West Bromwich Albion and Southampton are interested in taking him south of the border. The terms they can offer exceed the deal Hearts put to Shankland last month and the player must now make a final decision on whether he will leave Edinburgh. He was also monitored by Rangers last season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Another Tynecastle transfer target is Daniel Arzani, the Australian international winger who is out of contract and pondering whether to leave Melbourne Victory. He has interest from Hearts, plus other clubs in Europe, Asia and Australia. He intends to take time over his next career move having previously experienced British football at Manchester City and Celtic. Talks regarding a quick summer transfer for the Kazakhstan international winger Islam Chesnokov are still ongoing. Hearts are hopeful he will be their player in the near future as they want to avoid a pre-contract agreement for him to arrive in November - and be unable to register until January. In addition to the incomings above, there will be several players leaving Hearts in the weeks to come. Winger Barrie McKay and midfielder Jorge Grant left when their contracts expired at the end of the season. Others will be moved on to trim the size of the first-team pool at Riccarton.
