Ceasefire is not an agreement, but an understanding: BJP

NEW DELHI: Hailing the success of Operation Sindoor as 'a new chapter in history', the BJP on Sunday shared a cryptic message stating that the ceasefire is not an 'agreement but an understanding'. Taking to his 'X' handle, BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh, said, 'This pause is an understanding not agreement' – Govt.
Political experts interpreted this one-line message – quoting the government – as an indication that India is still determined to continue with Operation Sindoor if any kind of misadventure is attempted from the other side of the border.
BJP national head of IT department, Amit Malviya, also echoed the same cryptic message – 'This pause is an UNDERSTANDING, it is not an AGREMEENT.' The party also maintained its assertion that India has rewritten the rules of its engagement with Pakistan under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, responding to a Congress leader's post.

BJP plans to coordinate with EC to weed out ‘illegal immigrants' from UP voter roll

1 2 Lucknow: Amid the ongoing row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, the UP BJP plans to coordinate closely with the Election Commission of India to weed out 'illegal' immigrants, if any, from the voter list in the run-up to the 2027 assembly elections. BJP sources said that party functionaries have been asked to identify 'illegal' immigrants—primarily Rohingyas and Bangladeshis—residing in the state and to inform the poll panel immediately about it. While there is no specific data readily available on the presence of Rohingya and Bangladeshi population in Uttar Pradesh, it is known that some Rohingya refugees have settled in parts of India. The situation in Uttar Pradesh is said to mirror the broader trends of Rohingya presence in India, which includes undocumented individuals living in slums and engaged in menial and odd jobs, especially in a host of prominent municipal towns of the state. Sources said that a blueprint of the scheduled exercise was laid down during a recent organisational meeting of the BJP in Lucknow. All senior party leaders, including CM Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP Chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, and regional and district presidents, were present at the meeting. "The election commission gives necessary instructions regarding voter list revision from time to time. The ECI will do it accordingly as per rules and laid down procedures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AI now helps people speak languages fast Talkpal AI Undo We can only help the commission by alerting it about the residents living in the state illegally," maintained a senior state BJP leader, wishing anonymity. The party leadership has also pitched for adding at least 15,000 voters in each assembly constituency. "The idea is to ensure the purity of the voter list. The party would do its duty by coordinating with the ECI whenever the voter list revision takes place in the state," said UP BJP spokesperson Hero Bajpai. Another BJP leader pointed out that the voter list revision will be done with utmost caution. He highlighted the ECI's assurance to the Supreme Court—in connection with SIR in Bihar—that no eligible voter will be removed from the electoral rolls without prior notice. In an affidavit filed on Saturday, the poll body said it was taking "all possible steps" to include every eligible voter in the final list during the ongoing SIR. As a matter of fact, the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis have come under the radar of the UP govt after the dastardly terror attack on Pahalgam. The state govt launched a statewide crackdown by collecting details of residents with doubtful credentials but thriving in different clusters across the state. According to reports, in the Varanasi zone alone, around 300 individuals were flagged by the police. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Khar H-West ward office to get 9.5cr central AC

Mumbai: Barely four years after it was inaugurated, the H-West ward office in Khar is slated for a fully centralised air-conditioning, with ceiling unit boxes already stacked on the premises. The upgrade at a cost Rs 9.5 crore could push electricity bills to Rs 2 lakh a month at the office. A civic official confirmed the proposal was tabled by the local ward office itself, claiming that there was a ventilation issue. It may be recalled that the H-West ward office was based out of municipal premises on St Martin Road, behind Bandra police station in Bandra West. In May 2021, during the pandemic, the ward office started operating from the new location in Khar, with an official inauguration taking place in Aug 2021 by the then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. After this, the old office in Bandra was converted into a vaccination centre. He said poor planning left the building with poor ventilation. "Hopefully, this cool comfort for officials will somehow bring a warmer, better experience for the common Mumbaikar," he said, adding while every staff member in H-West will sit in AC, in other wards the staff will not get the same treatment. "Why this kind of cherry-picking? This should have been factored in when the building was being constructed, only if at all they wanted to do it," said Zakaria. The H-West ward office had AC cabins for the assistant municipal commissioner and deputy municipal commissioner, while clerical staff had non-AC offices. Assistant municipal commissioner of H-West ward, Dinesh Pallewad, said the work is being done with all sanctions in place. "Sanctions from the central purchase department (CPD) and mechanical and electrical department (M&E) have been obtained," he said. It may be noted other administrative ward offices in the city and suburbs don't have such centralised AC. Former BJP corporator from the ward, Swapna Mhatre, said there should be no problem with the centralised AC. "Today, every corporate office has similar centralised AC, so why shouldn't civic staff working for the public be allowed to operate in air-conditioned offices?" said Mhatre.
