OAP arrested amid 'chaos' on Ryanair flight from Mallorca as police board plane
The FR9188 flight from Palma de Mallorca to Edinburgh on Wednesday, July 9, was scheduled to set off from Spain at 4.10pm and arrive in the Scottish capital at 6.10pm but it didn't touch down until around 7pm.
It is understood that, upon landing, passengers had to remain seated as Police Scotland officers boarded the aircraft and arrested a 69-year-old man, who has since been charged, reports The Daily Record.
Ran by crew from Lauda Europe, a Maltese airline that operates on behalf of Ryanair, it remains unconfirmed what exactly the man did aboard the flight to prompt police attendance.
Speaking on Friday, a spokesperson from Ryanair said: "The crew of this Lauda flight from Palma de Mallorca to Edinburgh (9 July) called ahead for police assistance after a passenger became disruptive onboard.
"The aircraft was met by local police upon arrival at Edinburgh Airport and this passenger was removed.
"Ryanair has a strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour, ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a safe and respectful environment, without unnecessary disruption.
"This is a matter for local police."
A Police Scotland spokesperson also said on Friday: "Around 7pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025 we received a report of a disruptive passenger on a flight from Palma to Edinburgh.
"Officers attended upon landing in Edinburgh Airport and a 69-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with aviation offences.
"A report has been made to the Procurator Fiscal."
Edinburgh Airport was contacted for comment but referred to Ryanair.
Lauda Europe has been approached directly for comment.

Elderly woman killed in horror collision at busy car park as gardai issue appeal
An elderly woman has died after being struck by a car at a busy car park in south Dublin. Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at a car park on the Castle Villas street of Dalkey at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday (July 13). The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 70s, was rushed from the scene by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. In a garda update, a spokesperson confirmed that the woman tragically passed away due to her injuries on Thursday. An investigation into the collision is underway and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Man injured after being 'jumped on' in unprovoked attack as gardai issue appeal
Gardai have launched an investigation after a man was left injured following an 'unprovoked' attack in Co Kildare in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident occurred in the Convent Lane area of Maynooth between 1.30am and 2am on Saturday, July 12. The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was making his way home after a night out socialising when he was "jumped on" by "two or more" men. The man suffered facial injuries in the attack after being punched in the head by the assailants. Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. A spokesperson said: "Gardaí received report of an alleged incident of assault, that occurred in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, in the early hours of Saturday 12th July 2025. "We are appealing for witnesses in relation to an unprovoked assault in Maynooth on a gentleman who was making his way home," Garda O'Connell told host Eoin Beatty "This assault occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, between 1.30am and 2am. "This gentleman was jumped on by two or more males - literally jumped on - and the location is Convent Lane, Maynooth, that's where he was jumped on. He was punched to the head, causing bleeding to the face. "We're viewing CCTV, making door-to-door inquiries and we are appealing for witnesses. It's a Friday night, summertime, people are out and about - if anyone saw anything there, like I always say, if you think it's small information ring us and let us decide. "Gardai in Maynooth are investigating this assault and their phone number is 01 629 1444. "We are looking for any witnesses or if you were driving around that area, or if you are a taxi driver or bus driver and you have any dash cam footage, it would be great if we have any more information."
